Doris Roberts, Everybody Loves Raymond Star, Dead at 90

Doris Roberts, best known for her Emmy-winning role as Marie Barone on Everybody Loves Raymond, died on Sunday, April 17, TMZ reports. She was 90.

A cause of death has not been released.

Roberts garnered 11 Emmy Award nominations over her long career, including seven nods and four wins for her work on Raymond. She won her first Emmy in 1983 for a guest appearance on St. Elsewhere, and also earned nominations for her work as receptionist Mildred Krebs on Remington Steele, as well as her work on Perfect Strangers and American Playhouse.

Doris Roberts, a character actress who labored honorably both on stage and screen for years before finding the perfect vehicle for her talents, the hit sitcom “Everybody Loves Raymond,” died on Sunday. She was 90.

Her “Everybody Loves Raymond” co-star Patricia Heaton confirmed the news on Twitter.

A cause of death has not yet been released. According to TMZ, which first reported the news, Roberts died in Los Angeles. ABC and CBS also confirmed the news.

Disney to Produce Drama Series on Boxer Julio Cesar Chavez for TV Azteca, Telemundo

Mexican boxing icon Julio Cesar Chavez is getting the bio drama TV series treatment.

The winner of six world titles in three weight divisions is partnering with Disney Media Distribution Latin America, Mexico’s TV Azteca and shingle Btf Media to produce a 26-episode drama series about his life and stellar career in the ring. The series is expected to debut in April or May of next year, said Fernando Barbosa, senior VP and general manager of Dmdla.

In the U.S., the drama will air on Telemundo.

“El Cesar” will shoot on location in Chavez’s native town of Culiacan, Sinaloa as well as Mexico City and Los Angeles. His favorite music, Nortenos, will be a key component of the storytelling.

During an appearance at Wizard World St. Louis this past weekend, Mike Colter shared a few words about his upcoming Netflix and Marvel series Luke Cage, which will see him reprising his role as Power Man from last year’s Jessica Jones.

“Yeah, I’m going to say Sweet Christmas a lot,” said Colter. “He’s going to do a lot of badass stuff! Prepare for badassery. I think we show [his origin] in a really cool way. He wasn’t trying to be a superhero [in Jessica Jones]. The series [Luke Cage] is about him growing into that.”

London — BBC Worldwide has pre-sold the eight-part drama “The Collection,” from writer, creator and showrunner Oliver Goldstick (“Ugly Betty,” “Desperate Housewives”), to Sweden’s Svt and Dr in Denmark.

The Anglo-French co-production, which is set in the world of French haute couture after World War II, will have its global launch Monday at MipTV. Amazon Prime holds the U.K. rights to the miniseries, which is co-commissioned and distributed international by BBC Worldwide.
