Raise a glass for Big Little Lies and The Handmaid's Tale. But please don't make sequels of them | Gay Alcorn

4 hours ago | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

The productions were perfect and that’s where we should leave them. A plea from a fan: make something else

What a triumph for two of the finest television shows of the past year. Australians have always been ambivalent about Our Nicole, but there she was, clasping an Emmy award for her tight, complicated, intense portrayal of Celeste in Big Little Lies, a whip-smart story that blends a murder mystery with an exploration of female friendship.

And The Handmaid’s Tale, starring the mesmerising Elisabeth Moss, a brave, dark nightmare of a series. For many liberals, it was a glimpse of a totalitarian state too close for comfort in Trump’s America – an instant cultural touchstone. Big Little Lies and The Handmaid’s Tale dominated the Emmys, and deservedly so.

Eva Longoria Spills All the Burger Secrets She Learned from Working at Wendy’s

18 September 2017 10:56 AM, PDT | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

Before Eva Longoria was ever in the limelight, she was flipping burgers at Wendy’s. As a teen, the former Desperate Housewives actress worked at the fast food chain to make money for her Quinceañera (just one of many celebs who have taken that career path).

Luckily for us, she still remembers the Wendy’s method. On The Rachael Ray Show on Monday, Longoria showed off her tricks for how to dress the patty like Wendy’s does, and also revealed how she builds her favorite burger rendition.

The Texas native says the fast food restaurant‘s secret is all in the condiments. »

TV Taps Goats, Cows and Data to Catch Viewers for Fall

14 September 2017 9:45 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

Getting people to tune in to TV shows has gotten so complex it now requires everything from digital-data analytics to animal husbandry.

Yes, ABC has already seeded TV and the web with a glitzy video using Taylor Swift’s new single to hawk its Thursday-night lineup (think “Grey’s Anatomy” and “How to Get Away With Murder”). “With all the competition out there, you really need to make some noise,” said Rebecca Daugherty, executive vice president of marketing for ABC Entertainment. But the network will also hold screenings for its new “Kevin (Probably) Saves the World” where guests can treat themselves to a session of goat yoga. Yes, that’s right: You can do downward dog with an upward goat scaling your back.

CBS, meanwhile, will promote the sitcom “Me, Myself and I,” which examines its protagonist at three different times in his life, with a website that allows users to upload a photo of themselves, then »

Emmys 2017 Poll: Who Should Win for Lead Actress, Limited Series/Movie?

Real talk: Can we just give all six of these women an award at this year’s Emmys and be done with it? Because choosing just one winner feels like an impossible task.

The 2017 nominees for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or Movie include four (!) Oscar winners, all of whom would cruise to victory in a less competitive year. Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon both earned nods for HBO’s rich-moms drama Big Little Lies, with Kidman holding a tiny edge for her heartbreaking work as abused wife Celeste. Co-Stars Compete in Lead Actress in a TV Movie/Limited Series Category

10 August 2017 10:30 AM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

In the fifth episode of the FX limited series “Feud,” aptly titled “And the Winner Is … (The Oscars of 1963),” bitter rivals Joan Crawford (Jessica Lange) and Bette Davis (Susan Sarandon) go head-to-head at the Oscars. Never mind that Crawford wasn’t even nominated: She manages to steal the night by offering to accept the golden statue on behalf of the other lead actress nominees.

And now Lange and Sarandon find themselves nominated against each other in probably the most competitive category of the year: lead actress in a limited series or TV movie. But don’t draw any parallels to the actresses they played on screen; Lange assures us there are no real-life similarities. “I was so happy the day I saw the nominations and realized the six main actors in the piece were all nominated,” Lange says, referring not only to her and Sarandon, but also their supporting cast of Judy Davis, Jackie Hoffman »

As Seeso further winds down operations, insiders have confirmed that upcoming comedy “There’s…Johnny!” won’t launch at the end of the month as originally planned.
