Storyline

In morte veritas. Georgia Byrd clerks at a New Orleans department store. She defers pleasure: cooks gourmet meals, eats Lean Cuisine; likes a co-worker in silence; has savings, but hasn't left Louisiana. All that changes when a CT Scan discloses she has three weeks to live. She cashes her savings and heads to Europe's Grandhotel Pupp, where Chef Didier presides. She checks into the Presidential Suite, orders everything on the menu, snowboards, and comes to the attention of the chef and the hotel's powerful American guests: a Congressman, a Senator, a retail magnate, and his mistress. She has nothing to lose, so she tells them what she thinks. Will the truth set them free? Written by <jhailey@hotmail.com>

Trivia

All the dishes served in the movie were prepared by Food Network chefs who traveled with the crew to do the cooking. They also taught Queen Latifah some basic cooking techniques so she would look like a professional chef in the movie. See more »

Goofs

When at the roulette table, one of the characters tells Georgia that her single bet on black 17 is very large. After winning 3 times in a row on that number, rebankrolling her winnings each time she walks away from the table and the other character tells her she has won almost 100,000 us dollars. Since roulette pays 36 to 1 on a single spot, that means her initial bet was only approximately 2 dollars! Since she has approximately 4 stacks of red chips ($5) I would estimate her to have put about $400 down initially, which would have netted her about 18.6 million! See more »

A truly delightful romantic comedy!
14 January 2006 | by See all my reviews

I really enjoyed this movie! Its a nice, light movie to start out the New Year and clear away those post-holiday blues! Treat yourselves, forget about your troubles for 2 hours and see this film! It was much better than I thought it was going to be and I found myself smiling at the end. The audience clapped when the credits started rolling if that gives you any indication. Queen was stunning and so was the scenery. The cast of characters were funny enough, and the hotel setting was so elegant; makes you just want to hop on a plane to Prague! This movie will probably never be nominated for an award, but who cares! It was fun and sometimes that's what going to the movies should be about; especially given all the heavy hitters nominated for Golden Globes this year... Yikes, talk about depressing! I would say this movie may be more appealing to women. So, ladies call your best friends, take your mom, sisters, nieces and enjoy!
