A very nice Film Noir-like short, 24 September 2008
8/10
Author: planktonrules from Bradenton, Florida

This short film was recently posted on IMDb as part of a beta program to allow users in the United States to watch movies, TV shows and shorts. Whether or not you will be able to see this short on IMDb has a lot to do with licensing, though I am pretty sure it's available other places as well.

This film is very similar in style to a 1940s Film Noir film--in particular, a Humphrey Bogart film. Though there are many parallels to THE MALTESE FALCON or THE BIG SLEEP, the film makers made the right choices by not trying to recreate these classic tales nor did they have the lead actor do an imitation of Bogart. Instead, it is more inspired by these stories. Generally, they handled the look well--with the Fedora hats, suits, etc. though the one guy near the end had a modern goatee--something you never would have seen in these 40s films. Despite this very minor detail, the rest of the story is excellent and very watchable with a professional style about it you don't always find in shorts these days. Give it a look.
