Season 1, Episode 3: Reunion

DS Murphy is working undercover when a member of his "gang" and a mate from school days, Peter Tate, is shot on the street. The dead man's brother, Carl, is out for revenge and the police fear a gang war. Murphy manages to calm them somewhat but Carl is convinced that his brother's is a revenge killing by the Tyler family and sets out to get even. Annie Guthrie eventually joins Murphy undercover in an attempt to get closer to Carl. When Kevin Tyler is killed, the police realize that the only way to stop an all-out war is to identify who really killed Peter Tate and why.

Season 1, Episode 4: Kiss and Tell

After 5 months undercover, Murphy finds himself looking over his shoulder when the arms dealer he had befriended, Nikolai, gets away. He subsequently ransacks Murphy's apartment looking for revenge. The police now investigate two very similar deaths. Both victims were male, quite rich and were at the same health club the day they were killed. They were drugged and a woman's blond hairs are found at the scene. Murphy joins the club and learns that it is as much about health as it is about finding sexual partners. When a third member of the club is killed, the police focus on Patricia Morris, who was seen leaving the club with him but another possible suspect is Belinda Fletcher who has a previous record for stalking men. New evidence however points them in yet another direction.

Season 2, Episode 1: Jack's Back

When DI Annie Guthrie is stabbed to death in an alleyway, Murphy cancels his holiday to work on the case. She was working undercover in the investigation of three murders of homeless women. Murphy in turn poses as homeless man to find what the press is calling the return of Jack the Ripper. He takes up residence in a homeless shelter and befriends a teen-aged refugee who may have witnessed one of the killings. He also has his eye on the shelter's resident counselor and religious advisor the Reverend William Norris.

DS Tommy Murphy is assigned to a drug squad headed by DS Nic Winters after one of Winters' team, DC Aaron Parmer, commits suicide. There is a concern that race may have played a part in his death. Soon after joining them, Murphy concludes that racism isn't the problem: he suspects Winters of skimming off some of the drugs they are seizing. It becomes apparent that the entire squad is on the take and when a second DC is killed, Murphy begins to wonder just to what extent Parmer's death was genuinely a suicide.

DS Murphy finds himself going undercover with an INTERPOL officer to smash a car smuggling ring run by Godfrey Raines along with his son and daughter. Murphy manages to convince Raines that he too is a car thief specializing in high-end vehicles. He soon realizes that INTERPOL is after something else when they delay arresting Raines and start asking him about arms shipments. Into the picture comes a Mr. Davidson, former MI6 and now working the shady side of arms trafficking. Murphy isn't convinced that Raines is involved and looks for a connection between the two crooks.

DS Tommy Murphy goes undercover at a defense biotechnology contractor that may be covering up an industrial accident. Specifically, a young child is found to have drowned but the mother believes he died as a result of a chemical agent in the pond near where the child was playing. Despite being warned off the case, the police decide to leave Murphy in place. When the family who helped the dead boy and his mother is executed, it is apparent that someone will stop at nothing to keep these secrets hidden.

DS Tommy Murphy goes undercover in a convent when a young nun apparently commits suicide and a second vanishes. Posing as a priest, he finds any number of suspects. The older nuns obviously have a secret and are in league with a pharmaceutical firm. Murphy suspects they may be participating in illegal or unauthorized drug trials in their African mission. There is a young African novice who has regular nightmares and is clearly afraid of something. Then there is the gardener/handyman who also has secrets. When the missing nun is found dead, the police must move quickly before anyone else is killed.

DS Tommy Murphy finds himself before a disciplinary review board after having shot a suspect during an arrest and soon out of the force completely. He approaches a psychologist, Mark Maddison, who runs a support group for individuals who have have lost someone to a violent crime but where the perpetrator is known but has never been convicted of the crime. In fact, Murphy is undercover as at least three murder suspects have been killed and all had some connection to a member of Maddison's group. Murphy is genuinely torn however when the group provides him with the name and location of the man who killed his daughter many years before.

Season 3, Episode 1: The Goodbye Look

Working undercover as a gun dealer, DS Tommy Murphy changes course in the middle of a sting operation when a buyer, Caz Miller, mentions that the gun is to be used for a hit. He convinces his superiors that it's better to make the investment and go in for the long haul by presenting himself as a hit man rather than just arrest someone for illegal purchase of a firearm. It turns out that Caz works for Dave Callard, a well-known gangster who has been diversifying his investments into legitimate enterprises. The man he wants killed is an employee, Richard Holloway, who is supposedly sleeping with his wife but Murphy doubts that is the true motive. Murphy's dilemma is how he can continue to present himself as a hit man without actually having to eliminate Holloway.

DS Tommy Murphy continues to work undercover building the case against Dave Callard. Caz Miller arranges for Murphy to meet the McGeechan brothers who want their automatic weapons to be re-activated. It turns out however that the men's sister, Ellie, is married to Richard Holloway who Callard had hired Murphy to eliminate and they very much care about her welfare. The men plan to steal a shipment of heroin but the connection Callard isn't obvious. Murphy works his way into the gang and sets them up for arrest.

Still undercover to bring down Dave Callard, Murphy works as an intermediary when he learns there's a deal for a large sum of counterfeit money. When his undercover partner Jill is killed however, he must salvage the counterfeiting deal as well as find her killer. Things get difficult however when her underworld contacts targets Murphy as her killer. While he manages to find the killer, the case becomes more complex when an unexpected individual shows up.

However, before the big day Billy learns about his brother's plans for the future, leaving him overwhelmed with anger. A shootout between the Johnstones and Murphy soon takes place putting the cop's physical and emotional health at risk.
