Lara Croft Gets Dirty in New Tomb Raider Remake Photo

23 hours ago | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Yesterday, Warner Bros. unveiled the first two official photos of Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft in the studio's highly-anticipated Tomb Raider reboot, which is currently filming in South Africa. Today, Warner Bros. has revealed yet another official photo, which shows Lara Croft brandishing a climbing ax, emerging from a thick cloud of dust. Unfortunately, we don't have any other details about what's happening in this scene. But the studio did reveal the official synopsis.

Lara Croft is the fiercely independent daughter of an eccentric adventurer who vanished when she was scarcely a teen. Now a young woman of 21 without any real focus or purpose, Lara navigates the chaotic streets of trendy East London as a bike courier, barely making the rent, and takes college courses, rarely making it to class. Determined to forge her own path, she refuses to take the reins of her father's global empire just as staunchly »

Like a bull in a china shop the debut trailer for Ferdinand barges in

28 March 2017 8:36 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Zehra Phelan

The debut trailer for Ferdinand has bulldozed its way onto the net… no this isn’t a documentary on Ex-Footballer Rio Ferdinand but a brand new animation centring on the adventure of a Bull from 20th Century Fox.

Inspired by the beloved book “The Story of Ferdinand” by Munro Leaf and Robert Lawson, Ferdinand tells the story of a bull that is softer than Andrex toilet paper. The trailer includes scenes of Ferdinand tiptoeing his way through a china shop – hence the phrase bull in a china shop – trying not to knock over plates and cups with his large frame and spectacularly failing to giving mouth to mouth resuscitation to a rabbit after he almost kills it during target practice with his fellow heard looking on unimpressed.

Directed by the director of “RioCarlos Saldanha and has an all-star cast in Wrestler turned actor John Cena, Kate McKinnon (Ghostbusters, »

The Ultimate Crossroad: The Trouble with "Silence"

28 March 2017 7:15 AM, PDT | MUBI | See recent MUBI news »

She could never be a saint, but she thought she could be a martyr if they killed her quick.—Flannery O’Connor The mist uncovers Japanese soldiers as well as the grim sight of severed heads by the side of the hot springs where Catholic priests are being tortured. A priest kneels down in horror, almost catatonic, unable to bring himself to believe in the evilness of these men, the men of the Inquisitor. Why are these priests, who came to this “swamp of Japan” to spread the Word of the Lord, suffering so immensely on the hands of these soldiers? To the modern, secular audience, the theme of Silence (2016) is of great irony: the all-powerful Catholic Church, the institution that spread terror across Europe for 700 years with her bonfires and witch hunts and enforcing an almost maddening outlook at faith and personal behavior, comes to an unconquerable land where »

The Age of Shadows Review

21 March 2017 7:39 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Andy Furlong

The innovative Kim Jee-Woon films have always been characterised by a stylistic blend of film genres. A Tale of Two Sisters is recognised as one of the most influential Korean horrors ever due to its stunning visuals and challenging story, while The Good The Bad and The Weird was not only a widespread hit but also an utterly distinctive contribution to Korean Cinema.

But it was his next film, the complicated revenge drama I Saw The Devil that really elevated Kim to an entirely different level and cemented his reputation as one of the most unique voices in cinema. The Age of Shadows marks Kim’s first Korean Film in six years after his flirtation with Hollywood ended in the disappointingly received The Last Stand. Thankfully, The Age of Shadows is a return to form for the talented director and may just be his best film to date. »

Ray Winstone Leads a Story of Survival in Restoration Trailer for Alan Clarke’s ‘Scum’

8 March 2017 2:02 PM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

Alan Clarke‘s little-seen prison drama Scum has already been available on Blu-ray via Kino Lorber for a few years now, but they’ll finally be giving the 2K restoration a theatrical run later this year, and with this news comes a inventive new trailer. Playing with the film’s Banned label, the trailer features only stills from Scum — some tantalizing or provocative — and reviews from critics, read aloud by the hard-bit narrator.

Starring a young and spry Ray WinstoneScum tells the story of life in a brutal British prison, where there’s no easy way out. While it seemingly had clause for a ban in the 70’s, what is perhaps most interesting is if it still contains shock value in today’s climate. See the trailer below, with a nod to Blu-ray.com.

A landmark expose of Britain’s violent reform schools, Alan Clarke’s Scum is a controversial shock to the system. »

Where do “Moonlight” and the other Oscar winners rank all time?

1 March 2017 12:57 PM, PST | Hollywoodnews.com | See recent Hollywoodnews.com news »

With the dust settling from an Academy Awards unlike any other, we can turn our attention a bit to the results, as opposed to how the results were delivered/handled. This is something that’s probably best to take more time to think about, but I’m always fascinated by instant rankings. As such, I wanted not just to do the piece I always do on where the newest Best Picture winner stacks up all time, but also how the other main Oscar winners do. There will be expanded articles in the next month or so going over them in more detail, but for now, this is just a quick glance at where the new class ranks, all time. Before I get to Best Picture, which is clearly the big one, quickly I’d like to run down some of the other categories and how they stack up. That way, »

Did the 2007 Oscars get it right?

Simon Brew Feb 24, 2017

It’s Oscar weekend! But how well do the Academy Award choices of ten years ago hold up? We’ve taken a look...

The Academy Awards are the highest profile snapshot of what films are highly rated within 12 months of their release. What they can’t predict, however, is how well regarded their choices will age, and only time can tell you that. Which is why I thought it’d be interesting to go back a decade, and see how the winners of the 79th Academy Awards, handed out on February 25th 2007, stack up ten years on…

Best Picture: The Departed

Also nominated:

Babel Letters From Iwo Jima Little Miss Sunshine The Queen

At the time, there was a little bit of acceptance that The Departed was the Scent Of A Woman moment. That just as Al Pacino got rewarded for good work in a film that’s not his finest, »

Matt Damon vs. Ben Affleck: Film Critics Are Forced to Pick a Favorite — IndieWire Critics Survey

21 February 2017 10:15 AM, PST | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of film and TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Monday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best film in theaters right now?”, can be found at the end of this post.)

From “School Ties” to “Live By Night” and this weekend’s “The Great Wall,” Ben Affleck and Matt Damon have each — for better and worse — left a considerable and ever-increasing footprint in the cultural landscape. But while the world is wide enough for both of them, our hearts are not. And so, we forced our panel of critics to choose: Ben Affleck or Matt Damon?

There can be only one.

Brad Grey in Talks to Leave as Paramount Pictures Chairman

17 February 2017 1:56 PM, PST | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Updated: Paramount Pictures chairman and CEO Brad Grey is in talks with his bosses at Viacom to step aside and take on a new role with the company, a long-rumored shift that would come after five years of dismal results at the film studio, two sources confirmed Friday.

Grey’s possible departure comes after not only a long series of box office flops, far outnumbering hits, but also upheaval in the top executive ranks. Though a replacement has not yet been chosen, several sources said that it is possible the job will go, at least on a temporary basis, to Amy Powell, Paramount’s president of television and digital entertainment.

The talks between Grey and Viacom’s leadership, including CEO Bob Bakish, were continuing into the afternoon Friday and might not be resolved until Monday or Tuesday, according to one of the sources.

Grey, a former talent manager, has had a largely tumultuous run. »
