Watch out for this one.

Warning: Spoilers
Some people may consider the contents of the following commentary to be spoiler content. So here is your warning. This movie proved to me that a movie can be funny but ultimately terrible. It didn't really have much of a point, there was a plot, but there wasn't a point. The characters didn't show much intelligence, which may have been the point. One of them seemed to have an obsession over getting on TV and came to the conclusion that the only way to do this was to rob banks.

A lot of this movie was based on getting girls, and making lots of money. It also portrays racial minorities as stupid and really just bumbling idiots. I guess I can't judge whether or not it is offensive or if it is funny in a satirical sense, since I'm not a racial minority, but it seemed pretty disrespectful.

Low Budget - High comedy
dahuz6822 June 2004
First of all, I should say that I am usually not a fan of what is generally known as "urban comedy". I rented Bank Brothers at the suggestion of a friend who knew of this particular film makers work saying that the film might surprise me. With no expectations and a little time to waste, I popped in the DVD and, to say the least, I was indeed surprised. Working with what was obviously a low budget, the film makers managed to produce an absolutely hilarious, well-executed bit of slap-sickish, tongue-in-cheek, gross-out comedy in the vain of Ben Stiller meets the Wayans brothers with a little Cheech and Chong thrown in for good measure. I've suggested the film to several skeptical friends who, after watching it, came to the same conclusion that I did - Bank Brothers is a seriously funny movie that is a testament to what indie film makers with a few bucks, a lotta guts and a wicked sense of humor can get on screen.

If you're ready to laugh and you don't care how, Bank Brothers is a film you just might want to check out.

Where's the humor?
kennethqvarfordt12 July 2004
I believe this to be the worse movie I've seen in a long time! I can't speak for others out there who enjoy low budget movies but I do NOT. If you don't crack up when someone says something totally pointless or if you just don't like worthless humor then you'd do best in staying away from this movie. In this movie you'll see situations when they "want" you to laugh. But you simply won't. You'll only end up getting annoyed. I Rate this move 1 of 10. Awful is the word!

Don't waste your time, money or anything at all on this piece of "film". It is not worth it. You'll only get disappointed and angry that you wasted those 2hours on this.

Why would you want to waste anything on this movie when there are so many other, MUCH better, movies out there?

WARNING what follows is actually a genuine review...
sainthalo26 May 2004
This effort attempts to be humorous via sheer puerility but fails miserably.

The reason for its failure is at least three-fold:

1) No scriptwriters were employed during this production

2) Actors with ability were deemed entirely unnecessary

3) The advert for the sound man appeared in the "Deaf Times"

It would be an affront to all films ever made (independent or otherwise, and including Gigli) to label this plotless effort as a "film"; this "attempt" is truly dreadful. I shiver when I recall the crass manner of "acting" in this "thing"; please do not make the same mistake I made in watching this.

Waste no money, no time or even bandwidth on this!

A comedy classic
clouddead-118 September 2008
I've read several negative comments here regarding this movie and how it lacks in quality. However, I feel compelled to say that people who have made those comments, whilst entitled to their opinion, seem to have completely missed the point. This is an independent movie which was made on a tiny shoestring budget and has a real character and home-made charm all of its own. The sense of humour is wacky and quite unlike anything you would ever see in a mainstream film. The three main protagonists (the Bank Brothers themselves) are perfect in their roles. Just imagine three likable harmless idiots put together a story themselves and filmed it over a drunken weekend. If you imagine Homer Simpson and Barney getting together to try to produce their own blockbuster you might begin to understand where the movie is coming from -but it is even funnier. I personally went out and bought the DVD days after renting this movie and everyone I have shown it to (10-12 people) have had tears of laughter rolling down their cheeks. I would have to rate this as one of those movies which is so awful it has a kind of silly appeal all of its own and quite frankly I find this film to be a work of brainless genius. A must watch for anyone who can find time for a (very) cheaply produced and yet brilliant comedy.

Cute Indie.
aerojill5 October 2005
Imagine if the Three Stooges had an urban makeover and concocted a way to make some fast cash and you would have Bank Brothers. For what appears to have been made on a low budget, this film is truly an independent. With this in mind, the cast and crew pulled through to make this a charming, straight to video find. Guertin is able to blend several types of humor while sticking to the storyline, thus creating a film of dimension that still remains lighthearted. If you're interested in a blockbuster hit that has the budget to make a film with seemingly no limitations, than this film is not for you. If you want a true indie that has a modern comedic appeal, than check out Bank Brothers. For what it is, it's worth the watch.

Barf up a lung-funny, great movie.
mbentertainment8 May 2004
This movie is a Crack Up. I haven't seen a film like this before, it has a very original screenplay, and unique settings. I've watched a lot of Urban films and this one has got to be one of the best. I watched it and the next day found my self watching it again before I had to return it. I call this a `must see' for comedy fans. Tony Cox who played Markis in the film should win the Oscar. The `Behind the scenes' Documentary was also very good and there is an interview with Crooked I and Spider that is off the hook. It seems to give a good insight into the film making process Very Original. I'm going to give this film 9 out of 10.
