Kevin Costner signs up for Coast Guard duty as a veteran rescue swimmer who turns teacher after a disaster at sea that takes the lives of his teammates. Newlty installed at the toughest Coast Guard Academy in the movies, he mentors brash young recruit Ashton Kutcher with tough love and tougher training exercises in the best An Officer and a Gentleman mode. Melissa Sagemiller and Sela Ward play love interests to the rookie and the vet (respectively) and Clancy Brown, Neal McDonough, and John Heard co-star in the basic training/sea adventure drama directed by Andrew Davis.
