10 Horror Movie Reboots Gone Horribly Wrong

10 Horror Movie Reboots Gone Horribly Wrong
Oh, horror movies. Market research showed that more people knew the phrase Texas Chainsaw Massacre than the number of people who had seen it or even knew what it was about. So you know what that means! Reboot time! Now, there's nothing inherently wrong with rebooting a popular film and/or franchise. But there's also no rule that says they have to be bad. Nevertheless, crappy remakes keep plaguing horror fans. We're looking at 10 horror movie reboots that went horribly wrong.

Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) and Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre is easily one of the scariest movies of all time, no question. Loosely based on true events, put together in the early '70s on a shoestring budget, this thing played like some sorta snuff film. It's chilling. It's such a great horror film that once the sequels stopped coming, Hollywood tried to reboot it not once, but twice.

Chloe Moretz joins ‘Suspiria’ remake

Chloe Moretz loves a remake. The star who has still to turn twenty has already starred in six remakes (Let Me In, Dark Shadows, The Equalizer, Carrie, The Amityville Horror and The Eye). She’s not done though, having just signed on to star in the remake of Dario Argento‘s classic Suspiria.

Moretz joins Tilda Swinton and Dakota Johnson on the project which is being directed by A Bigger Splash‘s Luca Guadagnino. For those not familiar with the original 1977 movie the story tells of a young ballet dancer who discovers that her new dance academy is a front for something sinister and supernatural.

Now that Moretz is on-board production can get underway as soon as this month, with the shoot planned to take place in Italy and Hungary.

Are you ready for another Moretz remake? Let us know in the comments section.

Horror remake queen Chloe Grace Moretz has been cast in 'Suspiria'

Horror remake queen Chloe Grace Moretz has been cast in 'Suspiria'
The forthcoming remake of Suspiria that original director Dario Argento just can't understand is moving forward with director Luca Guadagnino (A Bigger Splash, I Am Love), and now Chloe Grace Moretz has joined the cast alongside Tilda Swinton, Dakota Johnson and Mia Goth.  Interestingly, this marks the third horror remake for Moretz in six years and the fifth in her career overall, if you count her supporting turns in 2008's The Eye starring Jessica Alba and the 2005 Platinum Dunes remake of The Amityville Horror starring Ryan Reynolds as a totally jacked suburban dad. Did I mention she's only 19 years old? Feel free to indulge in a moment of silence for your never-realized dreams of childhood stardom. Back in May, Guadagnino told me that the remake would be his attempt to recreate the impression he had of the film when he first saw it as an adolescent, while also making it "extremely,

'All I See Is You': Film Review | Tiff 2016
Blake Lively might have been better off swimming with that shark in The Shallows than subjecting herself to the gummy toothlessness of Marc Forster's wet psychodrama All I See is You. Playing a woman blinded as a child and now living with her husband in Bangkok, she undergoes a successful corneal transplant to restore her sight, only to discover that clarity of vision exposes the cracks in her marriage. Or something like that. The Southeast Asian setting has minimal relevance, beyond recalling the Pang Brothers' The Eye. That 2002 horror chiller and its sequels unleashed post-blindness visions of ghostly

She’s aided by her new friend, a Turkish tea-master Erdemoglu Selim, who becomes duty-bound to follow her across Turkey after she saves his life.

James Mangold to direct Disney’s Captain Nemo

Deadline is reporting that James Mangold (The Wolverine) has joined Disney’s long-gestating Captain Nemo, an origin story based upon Jules Verne’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Mangold replaces David Fincher, who was originally attached prior to directing Gone Girl.

Mangold, who is busy prepping Wolverine 3 with Hugh Jackman, is not the only director circling the same material, as Bryan Singer is set to follow up X-Men: Apocalypse with his own 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea movie for 20th Century Fox.

Captain Nemo is currently being written by Sebastian Gutierrez (The Eye), while Andrew Kevin Walker (Se7en) is among the previous writers who have provided drafts of the script.

Mangold Replaces Fincher On Disney's "Nemo"

Filmmaker James Mangold is set to direct "Captain Nemo," an origin story based on Jules Verne's classic nautical tale "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" at Disney Pictures.

Sebastian Gutierrez ("Hotel Noir," "The Eye") penned the latest draft, he and Mangold taking over for Andrew Kevin Walker and David Fincher respectively who were both previously attached to the project and were developing it before departing a few years back.

Disney, which previously adapted the property into the 1954 film starring James Mason and Kirk Douglas, will develop the new film along the lines of their other live-action reinventions of late such as "Maleficent" and "Alice in Wonderland," offering a different version of a classic story - in this case a full on prequel in which we see how Nemo created his battle submersible The Nautilus.

Mangold would do the project after he finishes the upcoming third and final Hugh Jackman-led standalone

The Wolverine Director James Mangold To Take Point On Disney’s Captain Nemo

James Mangold’s hotly-anticipated and indeed R-rated Wolverine sequel has been making waves of late, though Deadline reports that Mangold will really be hitting the high seas further down the line with Disney’s long-gestating maritime adventure, Captain Nemo.

Pitched as an origins tale to H.G. Wells’ 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, the reboot is currently situated in pre-production where Sebastian Gutierrez (Hotel Noir, The Eye) is busy whipping a script into shape. As one of the studio’s first live-action feature films, Leagues holds a tremendous amount of historical value for the House of Mouse. Originally released in 1954, Captain Nemo was the core anti-hero of the swashbuckling epic, and Disney is now hoping to weave a feature film out of Jules Verne’s story – one centering on the captain as he creates the Nautilus warship.

Not to be confused with Bryan Singer’s 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, it’s likely

‘Backtrack’ Review

Stars: Adrien Brody, Sam Neill, Robin McLeavy, Bruce Spence, Jenni Baird, Anna Lise Phillips, Chloe Bayliss, Olga Miller, Michael Whalley, Malcolm Kennard, Matthew Sunderland, Suzie Steen | Written and Directed by Michael Petroni

Don’t look now, but a man begins to experience strange visions following the death of his child. After realising that the majority of his patients are ghosts (like a reverse Sixth Sense) psychologist Peter Bower (Adrien Brody) heads to his spooky old hometown in the hope that he can uncover the mystery behind it all.

Moody, intense Brody is the main draw for this low-key supernatural thriller, its effective Gothic vibe making it stand out from the chaff like Nicolas Cage’s Pay the Ghost (I say that with love) or the litany of 101 Films releases just like it (said with less love, but there’s still some). The level of class extends to the presence of one Sam Neill,

Lift The Veil and Stare into the Abyss: A Film Review

Director: Phil Joanou. Writer: Robert Ben Garant. Cast: Jessica Alba, Thomas Jane, Lily Rabe and Shannon Woodward. The Veil is a haunted story, from Blumhouse Productions. The film takes place inside a Jim Jones' cult. But, in this film, there is life after suicide. Thomas Jane (The Punisher) plays Jim Jacobs, the cult leader. Jessica Alba (The Eye) plays a documentarian, in search of closure. A creepy cabin invites viewers into a horrifying time, while the film offers at least two decent jump scares. As well, Jane provides a great performance as the curtain falls on many of the characters. In the end, The Veil is a decent horror film, which draws viewers into its growing darkness. The setting focuses on a small, dilapidated cabin. This type of setting has been used many times before, in horror. This time, in this remote locale, the characters try to piece together

'Revenant' Hunts #1 Amid Newcomers, '5th Wave', 'The Boy' and 'Dirty Grandpa'
A new PG-13 horror (The Boy), an R-rated comedy (Dirty Grandpa) and a sci-fi thriller (The 5th Wave) make up the new releases hitting theaters this weekend and they all stand to make around $10-12 million. Meanwhile The Revenant is looking to score a #1 finish in its third weekend in wide release, but it's going to need another strong hold to top last weekend's champ, Ride Along 2. The Revenant has finished second the past two weekends, but is finally looking to cross the finish line in first. The 12-time Oscar nominee has grossed nearly $50 million since Oscar nominations were announced last Thursday, following not only an outstanding first weekend, but delivering a mere 20.2% drop last weekend. This weekend the film expands its reach into an additional 152 theaters, which includes 186 IMAX runs and 268 Premium Large Format (Plf) runs. That said, a 35% drop almost seems a worst case scenario as it

‘Five Nights At Freddy’s’ Is Getting A Movie

Five Nights At Freddy’S has been one of the biggest successes of independent gaming. The horror game sees players take on the role of a security guard at a children’s themed restaurant. While there they must check security footage and protect themselves from evil animatronics that wish to turn the player into one of their own kind. With a simple set-up, not much movement, increasing sense of dread, and insane jump scares, the game has provided players with endless hours of enjoyment as they force friends to play and record their reactions.

Now, as with all great successes, the concept is heading to Hollywood under the watchful eye of Warner Bros. Producing the effort will be Roy Lee, Seth Grahame-Smith, and David Katzenberg. Lee has produced hit animated films such as How To Train Your Dragon 2 and The Lego Movie, while his involvement with horror has spanned

Sin City: A Dame to Kill For Quad Poster Brings Cast Together

An accumulation of previously unveiled character posters have come together on board the newly revealed UK quad poster for Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller's 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For'. The poster, pinned up by Empire, slaps together poses by (from left to right) Joseph Gordon-Levitt ('Looper'), Rosario Dawson ('Trance'), Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba ('The Eye'), Mickey Rourke, Eva Green ('Dark Shadows') and Josh Brolin ('Oldboy') with rather second rate photoshopping which manages to make everyone look as disproportionate as possible. 'Sin City: A Dame to Kill For' opens across the UK and in Ireland from 25 August. You can check it out below....
