Roving Home Improvement.
movibuf196218 September 2004
It's one of the cleverest twists I've ever seen in a 'how-to' show: home improvement by a crew of contractors posing as a dysfunctional family. Just watch one episode of this show, and you'll be hooked. You'll find yourselves addicted not only to the handy bits of advice and beautiful finished results, but to the crew as well. They work well together, but are not above bickering on camera (though I suspect some conflicts are staged, like they are on so many other 'reality' shows). Their knowledge of craft and each other makes the show as entertaining as a standard family sitcom. You'll inevitably have a favorite- whether it be James (of the Outback), comic 'plaster man' Danny, stoic drywall man Justin, sexy handy-woman Jennie (who's just-one-of-the-guys), Greg (plumbing expert; bald, redwood-tree of a man; is he the patriarch?), or resident hunk electrician Sparky (who's already been compared to Joey Tribbiani, I swear). And the crew is well anchored by off-center host Marc. Throw in some beautiful interior designers (the IAF 'angels-' Nani, Deborah, Evette, and Franzella), and you're all set.

Not in a million years...

did I think I would get hooked on a show like "in a fix". It has gotten to the point where I tape every episode! What makes this show so special is it has all the elements you want in a do-it-yourself program, such as: tension, enthusiasm when explaining the jobs (which could come in handy), great designs, moments of hilarity, and the bond between the people who work on the houses. I have rarely encountered a show (especially on "reality t.v.") where I like all the participants. You can easily establish a favorite. I personally don't have one because I like them all. The host Marc Goldberg is a complete maniac. He brings an edge which is full of pranks and wit. He is the best host on TLC, by far. James "The Wombat" Lunday, the handsome Australian carpenter who loves to entertain the camera while explaining his wood-working projects. The man is extraordinarily impressive with his crafty and gorgeous furniture finishes. Justin Brown AKA: the drywall king, is a machine when working. He can go from 0 to 60 in a matter of seconds. Marc "Sparky" Bartolomeo, the very good-looking electrician who can woo the ladies and heat the wiring in a house at the same time. Jennie-Lyn Berntsen, the pretty but intelligent women who can use power tools just as well as the men (while having French tip manicured nails!) Gregory, the tall man with a witty persona and a great sense of humor. Danny, the goof-off but can be a great team player as well. Then their are the beautiful designers. Nani Vinken, possible leader of the pack, is the most decorated (no pun intended) of the designers. She knows what she wants and is not afraid to let you know it. Deborah DiMare, diva designer, who has an amazing color pallet to satisfy her aesthetic pleasure. Last but not least is perky Franzella Guido, the youngest of the trio. Creative and calm she has a cool 21st-century vibe for any modern room. These are all the people of the "in a fix" crew. Hope that you enjoy the show as much as I do.

Not a movie but a awesome show

This show by far takes the cake on home improvement shows. I have been watching the various Bob Villa home improvement shows for years now. I came across this one about 3 or 4 months ago and I have to admit I am hooked. Not only do they fix home improvement disasters but they also give the layman advice on how to fix minor home improvement issues. The crew on this show also can be a bit silly and strange on the show but that is part of its charm. The crew was picked out for their great personalities and their home improvement know how. There is something for everyone young and old in this fabulous show. This show is definitely a must see. Make sure you check your local listings for this show under TLC.

A lot of fun to watch

A weekly TV show where a crew of between 4-6 people and a host

renovate a house where a person who had good intentions, and started more home improvement projects then they could handle. Or, perhaps they shouldn't have started in the first place. At any rate---they take a serious problem and fix it. And the crew of regulars are a great bunch, full of personality, and they do good work with a descent budget. Watch it----you'll be hooked.
