Best Week Ever with Paul F. Tompkins (2004– )
Well, it’s official: Americans just don’t want to watch a variety show. NBC on Tuesday pulled the plug on Best Week Ever with Neil Patrick Harris, this fall’s live recreation of UK mainstay Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway. The weekly variety hour, which featured Harris and celebrity guests doing live stunts and taped segments, was actually quite good but failed to connect with an audience. NBC says they thought about overhauling the format and giving it another try, but eventually decided on trying to find a new project for Harris. They put a spin on the decision, saying the reason

Julie Klausner is no stranger to writing. She’s written for TV shows (VH1’s Best Week Ever and Fox’s Mulaney), she’s written a book (2010’s autobiographical memoir, I Don’t Care About Your Band), and she’s written extensively about both the Real Housewives of New York and Beverly Hills. But it wasn’t until she wrote the show that she wanted to see the most that it finally got made.
“I wrote a script for the TV show I wanted to do more than anything,” she says.

Collins will make regular appearances on the show until the break for its summer hiatus in early August. She comes to “View” as it is still trying to find its footing following the departure last year of creator and exec producer Barbara Walters.
This season, “View” has had plenty of turbulence with Rosie O’Donnell leaving just a few months into the season and Rosie Perez confirming her departure last week after just one season at the table. Raven- Symone was hired just last month as another permanent co-host.
“These past few months have been the most fun and exciting of my career, and I couldn’t be happier to join such an awesome, smart, accomplished and funny group of women,
ABC and the show announced on Monday that Collins was officially named the 15th co-host in the show's history, and will join the cast as a permanent member beginning during "The View"'s 19th season, which starts in September. Collins will still appear on the program for the rest of its summer run, before "The View" starts its hiatus in August.
"We've had so much fun hanging out with this young lady," Whoopi Goldberg said on Monday's show, calling Collins "amazing and very, very funny." Collins, who was greeted with a shower of confetti and thunderous applause from the crowd, said she was "so excited" for the opportunity, and praised her co-hosts Goldberg, Nicolle Wallace, Rosie Perez, and Raven-Symoné.
