Aamir's handy work for Delhi Belly

25 November 2010 1:29 PM, PST | Filmicafe | See recent Filmicafe news »

Ramesh Deo.s son Abhinav.s directorial debut Delhi Belly, produced by Aamir Khan Productions, is not going to see the light of day till October 2010 because Aamir and Abhinav were having too many creative differences with each other over the film. And sure enough, Delhi Belly has still not hit the theatres. But Aamir has now taken it upon himself to finish the pending work. The latest on the film is that Aamir is now editing the film all by himself. Visit his Khar office and you will see the actor, wth a bandana wrapped around his head, pacing up and down, while taking breaks from editing the film. And apparently, Aamir has decided to finish the edit singlehandedly.Says a source close to the film, .Abhinav will be brought into the picture but only after Aamir completes the entire editing. Abhinav will then be asked for his inputs. »

It is so real, and had been made in very real circumstances. In Bombay perhaps that balance may have gone."The veteran actress said at the event: "I enjoyed working in this film and I am very grateful for Sangeeta for giving me the opportunity, and to work »

Maddy's Fun @ Forty!

He's come a long way from his big screen debut in Mani Ratnam's Tamil blockbuster Alaipayuthey, which was remade with Vivek Oberoi in the same role as Saathiya back in 2000 by Shaad Ali. But R. Madhavan, Maddy for short, has proved his mettle time and again, and with Guru, the well-deserved recognition he had been aiming for started to finally come in.

Although Madhavan hasn't been seen in Hindi as much as he has in the South, the actor has been commended for his acting in Rang De Basanti, Mumbai Meri Jaan, 13B and 3 Idiots. Beyond the big screen, he features in mobile games launched by Paradox Studios Limited, is an active member of PETA and other social causes, and has dabbled his hand at hosting game shows too. Phew! With an active schedule like this, the actor has felt he was missing on crucial time with his family, »

Michelle Obama Wows India

8 November 2010 10:11 AM, PST | The Daily Beast | See recent The Daily Beast news »

She sings, she dances, she wows the subcontinent. Priya Ramani on how Michelle Obama has emerged as the star of the president's tour to India.

New Delhi-If the U.S. presidential trip to India were a Bollywood script, it would not be an exaggeration to say that all the best lines were with First Lady Michelle Obama. She was also the unquestionable star of the two song-and-dance sequences in this Indo-American mega production. And certainly she had the most retro wardrobe of all the lead actors, though why she didn't pack any bright colors to a country known to nonchalantly drape rani pink (fuchsia times 10) with parrot green is anyone's guess. After all, she did wear yellow to the inauguration.

Michelle Obama dances in the home of Bollywood

Us First Lady Michelle Obama on Saturday danced barefoot to Bollywood tunes, as she visited a charity helping orphans and runaways in India's entertainment capital, Mumbai. The woman dubbed America's "Mom-in-chief" kicked off her shoes within minutes of arriving at the University of Mumbai library in the south of the city to join children in a game of educational hop-scotch.Mrs Obama correctly spelt the name of "America" to advance in the game but nearly came unstuck on the word "happiness" -- but only because she was balanced on one foot at the time. She then joined the 30 or so children aged eight to 13 as they danced to the theme song from "Rang De Basanti" (Colour Me Saffron) by Indian composer A.R. Rahman, who won two Oscars last year for hit film "Slumdog Millionaire".The film, which was released in »

Only two films old yet he continues to spark attention every time his name appears in headlines. Well, that is the sign of an actor who's left a good impression. Indeed, Siddharth is the man we're talking about. After Rang De Basanti, a long hiatus ended with Chandan Arora's Striker. That film may not have gotten him commercial success, but definitely didn't take away from the image he worked hard to built from just a supporting role in Rdb.

The actor now returns to screens in a different avatar and in fact a different screen. We're talking about your television screens of course! Siddharth now sports the title of the national ambassador for the elite clothing brand Peter England. His popularity in more than one state of India made him the perfect candidate to reach audiences far and white.

Opinion: Peepli [Live]: Deserving of the Oscars?

28 September 2010 12:39 PM, PDT | Bollyspice | See recent Bollyspice news »

The country is pretty much 50:50 on whether Peepli [Live] is deserving of being India’s entry to the Oscars. In fact, a number of people even believe that the Film Federation of India is somewhat biased to Aamir Khan and his genre of films. In the past few years, it has been raining Khan with regards to the films we send to the Academy Awards. Lagaan was the first to not only be sent, but actually make the cut. The film was shortlisted and was selected to be a part of the top five films in the Best Foreign Language Film category. Victory didn’t come to Lagaan but Aamir didn’t lose heart. Both Rang De Basanti in 2006 and Taare Zameen Par in 2009 became India’s official entry to the competition. However, the films failed to make the cut for the final nominees. And now, three years later, it »

Bollywood has been an old companion of Indian patriotism. It began with pro-British films like Gyan Mukherjee's Kismet (1943) and are now delivering films like Rang De Basanti (2006). The transformation of patriotic films has been quite incredible in both form and content. Manoj Kumar is the man whose face flashes in front of our eyes whenever we think of patriotic Films. His films, Upkar, Purab Aur Paschim, Hindustan Ki Kasam and Kranti had been the yardsticks of patriotism in Bollywood during the era of 1960-1980. »
