Storyline

A couple's weekend getaway turns into a nightmare after they are stranded in the woods and discover what they assume to be a dead body. The assumption is wrong and John and his girlfriend Jennifer are infected with a deadly disease that will soon ravage their bodies. With no place to go, and no one to turn to, they are forced to find shelter in a deserted cabin. This is where they'll find safety, but this is also where they'll experience a slow and torturous death. They must come to terms with their inevitable deaths, the temptation to kill others to sustain their own lives, and the consequences of murder. They will cling to one another's love and support, but in the end.... all great love stories end tragically. Written by Horizon Entertainment

one of the best underground films
28 December 2006 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

Shadows of the Dead is one of the best underground films I've seen in years. It's been years since I had to take an ibuprofen after a movie, but my ever-tensed muscles demanded it after the relentless visual and psychological assault. The characters of John and Jennifer's descent into darkness seem to last forever, but alas the less you know about the movie, and why it is so scary, the better. I hesitate to even talk too much about the other characters in the movie; they all play archetypes, but they never seem at all clichéd, thanks to the tip-top level of acting. Lindbergh directs with an alternately suspenseful and sadistic hand – subjecting the audience to anticipate, then witness, things that are horrifying to us at the most primal level. Being hurt and left behind by our comrades; accidental death; things that go bump in the night; and doing whatever it takes to preserve one's own life no matter what the cost. If you are a fan of the genre, then this film is a no brainer. Go buy it now!
