Trivia

Based on the true story of Anneliese Michel, a young German woman who suffered a similar fate to the fictional Emily Rose in the 1970s, and "The Exorcism of Anneliese Michel", an account of the subsequent court case by expert witness Felicitas D. Goodman, an anthropologist called in as an expert on possession. Michel's parents and the two priests who performed her exorcism were prosecuted, though the prosecution asked that the parents be excused from punishment as they had "suffered enough". Ultimately, the accused were found guilty of manslaughter resulting from negligence, and the two clergymen were sentenced to six months in jail (which was later suspended) and three years of probation. The most significant differences are that Michel periodically fasted for several months as part of her exorcism and remained on medication until her death, while the fictional Rose was incapable of eating due to demonic forces and decided herself to stop taking her medication with the consent of her care-providers. The story was heavily adapted for cinematic purposes. See more »

Ethan Thomas: So, the judge thinks we should offer your client a new plea agreement. Apparently she thinks the community would be better served without this trial.
Erin Bruner: How do you feel about it, personally?
Ethan Thomas: My job is to represent the interest of the people, make an effort to be objective.
Erin Bruner: Hm. I ask because I know you're a churchgoer. Now you're sent to prosecute a man of God.
Ethan Thomas: Your priest broke the law and a young girl is dead. If he's a man of God, then personally I think he's even more subject to the laws of ...

Good Movie
10 September 2005 | by (Rochester, ny) – See all my reviews

First of all this was a good movie. I wouldn't necessarily consider it a horror movie like Friday The 13th but it was suspenseful like The Ring. I had to look away sometimes because being a suspenseful movie watcher all my life I knew by the sound of the chilling music something was gonna happen that would freak me out and boy did it do its job.

It wasn't overly predictable. It was a look back on what exactly happened when Emily Rose got possessed and how it ended. It wasn't a "push the catholic belief down everyones throat" because defending the Priest was an agnostic lawyer trying to not only get ahead in her career but convince a journey that medical science could not determine she had a medical condition but a demonic possession. Cant tell you anymore than that.

The movie had a "dark" look and was cozy it kept me on the edge of my seat and the way she got possessed and how she looked was way freaky. Good movie and worth to own on DVD!
