Actor Liev Schreiber makes his directorial debut with his own adaptation of the Jonathan Safran Foer novel about a young "collector" (Elijah Wood) who journeys to the Ukraine to find the woman who saved his grandfather from the Nazis in 1942, with only a photograph and the family stories to guide him. That, and Alex (Eugene Hutz), the English-mangling Ukrainian guide who watches over his ostensibly blind anti-Semitic grandfather who does all the driving.
