Goldberg squashing Brock Lesnar was the perfect end to Survivor Series

22 November 2016 4:06 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Luke Owen defends Goldberg’s win over Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series

On Sunday night, Goldberg defeated Brock Lesnar in less than two minutes in the main event of Survivor Series. It was Lesnar’s first clean defeat since losing to Triple H at WrestleMania 29 in 2013. Since then, The Beast Incarnate has defeated the likes of John Cena, Dean Ambrose and – more impressively – The Undertaker where he ended his legendary Undefeated Streak. But it wasn’t an up and comer that could have done with the rub who stopped the unstoppable Brock Lesnar, it was the returning 49-year old Goldberg who hasn’t been in the ring in twelve long years and is only back because a video game needed promoting.

And it was the perfect outcome for the match.

To argue why Goldberg needed to squash Lesnar, you need to go back to his WCW debut in 1997. At that time, »

The strange and bizarre story behind President Donald Trump in the main event of WrestleMania

10 November 2016 4:15 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Luke Owen looks at the history of the 45th President of the United States of America headlining professional wrestling’s biggest show…

Before America decided he was the man to run the country, Donald Trump was a billionaire business tycoon, a reality TV star and – more importantly – a WWE Hall of Fame inductee.

Trump always had business dealings with WWE (formally WWF) owner and promoter Vince McMahon long before The Donald was a regular character on television. In 1988 McMahon used Trump Plaza in Atlantic City for WrestleMania IV, headlined by Randy Savage and Ted Dibiase for the vacant WWF Championship, and the event was such a success that Trump requested he host WrestleMania V in the same venue the following year. To this day, Trump Plaza is the only home that has hosted two WrestleManias back to back. Trump would appear again at several WrestleMania events in the crowd, including »

WWE Raw 10/17/16 Review – Goldberg answers Brock Lesnar’s challenge, Seth Rollins vs. Chris Jericho and more

Shaun Eddleston reviews the October 17th edition of Monday Night Raw

We are just over two weeks from Hell in a Cell, a gimmick-heavy pay-per-view devoted to a match type once saved for the most intense of blood feuds.

Monday Night Raw hit the airwaves promising the latest chapter in the ongoing rivalries between Roman Reigns and Rusev, Sasha Banks and Charlotte and the celebrated return of Goldberg to an industry he once took by storm. With so many moving parts and pressure on the writing staff to produce a show that can drum up excitement for the October 30th PPV, this week’s episode was an integral one for a brand often unfavourably compared to its Tuesday night counterpart, Smackdown.

Seth Rollins vs. Chris Jericho

Kevin Owens, with Chris Jericho at his side, claimed that Raw general manager Mick Foley has a vendetta against him. Jericho talked up the »

WWE: So Bill Goldberg Is Back. Now What?

18 October 2016 8:28 AM, PDT | LRMonline.com | See recent LRM Online news »

Last night, on WWE Monday Night Raw- the longest running weekly episodic program in history- WCW Legend Bill Goldberg made his hotly-anticipated return. As part of the next escalation of his feud with Brock Lesner, which seems to be ripped straight from the plot of Rocky Balboa, he came out and answered Paul Heyman's challenge from last week.

And he looked great doing it.

Goldberg delivered a promo that was easily- far and away- the best he's ever sounded on a microphone. He was loose; He was natural; and he seemed to be speaking from the heart. The crowd, much to my surprise, absolutely loved him, and his entrance last night will probably go down as one of the most memorable moments WWE has had in quite a while.

I've got to hand it him. That closing line, which I'll paraphrase here: "You're not just next. You're last! »

WWE Raw 10/10/16 Review – Paul Heyman issues challenge to Goldberg, Seth Rollins vs. Chris Jericho and more

Shaun Eddleston reviews the October 10th edition of Monday Night Raw

Last week’s episode of Raw saw Sasha Banks defeat Charlotte to win the title for a second time. It saw a back and forth contest with Banks getting the win, plus, Dana Brooke wasn’t at ringside. What could be the fallout of this match on Raw? Could Charlotte and Brooke’s tensions increase?

Kevin Owens vs. Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal Championship got confirmed for the Hell in a Cell PPV as well. These two have feuded since the beginning of September, and even wrestled at Clash of Champions. This saw Ko win his first title defense, but with controversy. The Architect will get his second opportunity, though, so what will he do to build momentum?

The first match announced for Hiac had been Roman Reigns vs. Rusev for the United States Championship. It’s also »

Goldberg returns to WWE next week

11 October 2016 2:19 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

After more than 12 years away, Goldberg will make his long-awaited return to WWE programming on the October 17th episode of Monday Night Raw.

Goldberg confirmed the news via his Twitter account:

Booking my flight to answer that big mouth @HeymanHustle 's challenge next week in person on #MondayNightRaw #WhosNext? #seeyathere @WWE

Bill Goldberg (@Goldberg) October 11, 2016

His tweet came on the heels of a segment during last night’s episode of Raw in which Brock Lesnar‘s advocate, Paul Heyman, issued a challenge to Goldberg.

Goldberg’s final match in WWE was against Lesnar at WrestleMania Xx in 2004 – and it was an absolute disaster. Fans knew going into the match that Goldberg was about to leave WWE, and that Lesnar intended to launch an NFL career, so both men were showered with boos throughout the match. Goldberg won, and after leaving the ring fans sang “Na Na Hey Hey Goodbye,” which »

Goldberg reportedly in strong negotiations for a WWE return, rumoured to be facing Brock Lesnar at Survivor Series

5 October 2016 12:36 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer newsletter reported on Wrestling Observer Radio that there are very serious talks going on between Goldberg and the WWE.

Meltzer used the phrase “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” when it comes to Goldberg being featured so prominently in WWE 2K17.

“There was a commercial for WWE 2K17, and boy did they feature Brock Lesnar and Bill Goldberg in that commercial. There are very serious talks with Bill Goldberg going on right now. They may already be done for all I know. Everyone is avoiding the question, but where there’s smoke there’s fire, and Bill Goldberg is going to be on SportsCenter on Wednesday, and he’s going to talk about his relationship with WWE, so there’s something going on. Put it this way, it’s in the very strong discussion stages at worst.” Meltzer explained.

Goldberg WWE Return “In Motion”! | WrestleTalk News

2 September 2016 4:08 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

The following is a guest post from WrestleTalk. Subscribe to their YouTube channel for new videos every day.

Ever since Goldberg was unveiled in the commercial for WWE 2K17, speculation has ran rampant about whether he’ll return to wrestling. 2K17 deals in the past have foreshadowed returns for both Sting and The Ultimate Warrior to WWE.

Goldberg has embraced this speculation tighter than an Andre the Giant bear hug, teasing that he’d interfere at last month’s Summerslam, as he was in the same city – New York – promoting the video game. That’s why the crowd started chanting ‘Goldberg’ in the Brock Lesnar vs Randy Orton main event, thinking the stage was being set for his return. Instead Lesnar just beat Randy to a bloody pulp.

Goldberg has since said that interacting with wrestling fans while promoting the game has reawakened his passion for wrestling, and that he »

Goldberg returns in WWE2K17

31 May 2016 5:59 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

If you were watching last night’s edition of WWE Raw, you’ll have heard a familiar theme as one of the biggest stars of the late 1990s returned to television.

The first trailer for WWE2K17 aired last night, which saw that former WCW Champion Goldberg would be this year’s featured pre-order character. In previous years it has been the return of The Ultimate Warrior and the debut of Sting. Goldberg has not featured in a game since WWE2K14.

Check out the official trailer below:

Goldberg was thought to be the one star the Nitro era of WCW created, and was the only one to stay with the company to the bitter end (The Giant, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero all left by 2001). He was not part of the derided InVasion storyline due to WWF refusing to buy out his Time Warner contract, but he »

Did WrestleMania 32 Prove WWE Is Out Of Touch With The Fans?

4 April 2016 12:48 PM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

I cannot even begin to comprehend what Vince McMahon was thinking when he laid out WrestleMania 32. If what occurred in Dallas is not proof positive that he is out of touch with what his core fan base wants, then nothing is. He is the captain of the sinking Titanic, refusing to believe that his ship even hit an iceberg, let alone is being being sank by it.

I thought the wrestling throughout the night was solid at worst and pretty good at best, without anything blowing me away. Not the most glowing praise, but given the hotchpotch mess I was expecting going in, it actually delivered slightly beyond my expectations.

The issue – as always – was not with the in-ring action, but with the way it was booked. WWE got it wrong not just in all of the big matches, but in every single contest.

10 Grand Moments We Need To See At WrestleMania 32

18 March 2016 6:51 AM, PDT | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

WrestleMania, cultural phenomenon that it is, has become a stage where the moments are made that last forever, and even though fans have come to pretty much expect classic matches and big-time appearances from superstars, it’s those moments that end up making the show.

Nobody will ever forget some of the greatest WrestleMania moments of years past – Bret Hart defeating Yokozuna at WrestleMania X and being hoisted up in celebration by the roster’s babyfaces. Eddie Guerrero and Chris Benoit standing side by side as champions in the closing moments of WrestleMania Xx. Daniel Bryan overcoming all the odds to reach immortality at WrestleMania XXX.

Each WrestleMania needs to deliver a series of moments that ensure that it will last in the memory, standing alongside the shows that came before it. This year is no different, and while the card may seem weaker than usual at first glance, »

10 Most Soul-Destroying WrestleMania Moments

11 March 2016 9:20 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

“The boyhood dream has come true”, gushed Vince McMahon as Shawn Michaels defeated Bret Hart to become the new WWF Heavyweight Champion. The match-concluding ‘Sweet Chin Music’ at WrestleMania Xii has been played time and time again, and for good reason; it was an extremely heartfelt moment.

In similar fashion, seeing genuine tears roll down the cheeks of both Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero at the close of WrestleMania Xx was seriously emotional. Fans couldn’t help but join in, recognising the hard work and sacrifice the pair had consistently made to get to that point.

Moments such as those outlined above are undoubtedly ones consumed by sheer, unadulterated joy. When these moments occur, fans can’t help but punch the air in delight. Unfortunately, WrestleMania has also been home to moments after which those same fans want to punch holes in the nearest wall out of frustration. »

Ranking John Cena’s WrestleMania Matches – From Worst To Best

5 March 2016 12:38 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

WWE.com

WrestleMania is the biggest night of the year in professional wrestling, without question. For almost 32 years it has acted as something of a Christmas for pro graps fans in the western world, the time of year when WWE (usually) ups its creative game, putting together engaging stories that make or break characters and set up the plots we’ll watch for the next 12 months.

John Cena is the biggest name in professional wrestling today, without question, and in many ways he has become something of a human version of WrestleMania. Whilst this isn’t true when it comes to fan-excitement, it is true regarding his standing and influence. His ascension to the top table of WWE was completed at the event, and a decade later sharing the ring with him at the event is considered a pretty big honour for young stars.

Every WrestleMania Triple Threat Match Ranked – From Worst To Best

1 March 2016 12:43 PM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Jonathan Bachman/AP

The modern professional wrestling fan may take them for granted somewhat, but three way matches were once extremely innovative. There is a lot of debate around where the concept started in North American pro-wrestling, with some claiming Ecw popularised the match with the infamous Terry Funk v Shane Douglas v Sabu bout in 1994. Regardless of where it came from, in the 1990s it was still new and fresh.

Due to the fairly modern creation of the match, there wasn’t a single triple threat match (as it is known in WWE) at WrestleMania until WrestleMania Xv in 1999. If you can guess who was involved in the match before clicking through the answers, your WWE trivia is on point to say the least.

Since the very first one, there has been a total of 15 triple threats on the Grandest Stage of Them All. All except one has seen a championship on the line, »
