At the Ideal Toys meeting, execs are looking at a prototype of a cube puzzle - clearly a Rubik's Cube. Although Ideal did look at a design by Larry Nichols for a puzzle similar to the Rubik's Cube, the Nichols design was 2x2x2, not 3x3x3 as shown in the film, and was eventually rejected by Ideal. The Rubik design was invented in 1974 and was bought by Ideal in the late-1970s. See more
