Hostel 3 (2011)

30 December 2011 2:25 PM, PST | Planet Fury | See recent Planet Fury news »

Directed by: Scott Spiegel

Written by: Michael D. Weiss

Featuring: Brian Hallisay, Kelly Thiebaud, Kip Pardue, Skyler Stone, John Hensley

When the recipe calls for "torture porn," Eli Roth seems to be the first go-to name on everyone's list due to his work with the Hostel franchise.

Though it is a film full of gratuitous nudity, ultraviolent gore and unflinching profanity that has garnered a lot of flack from critics over the years, I still enjoyed the first Hostel enough to check out the sequels and bear the crosses of their disappointments. The idea of going backpacking in Europe and being kidnapped by hostile foreigners is a really clever and frightening concept; part of the effectiveness of the original two films was the forbidding, unfamiliar terrain of eastern Europe, where the government is lax and the people can get away with murder.

When I saw the trailer for Hostel 3, I wasn't overly impressed. »

Britney and Jason Keep Close in NYC Following Their Pre-Holiday Engagement

30 December 2011 2:08 PM, PST | Popsugar.com | See recent Popsugar news »

Britney Spears and Jason Trawick stopped at a convenience story in NYC today, and Britney's sparkling engagement ring was in view as they left holding hands. Jason proposed to Britney on December 15, just a few days before they headed to Vegas to celebrate his 40th birthday. The happy pair showed off Britney's Neil Lane stunner during their stay in Sin City, posing for pictures at a party they hosted at Planet Hollywood. The trip to Nevada was one of many the duo took together in 2011. Jason was close by Britney's side for most of the year, along with her sons Sean Preston and Jayden James, as she toured the world. She closed her Femme Fatale concert series in Puerto Rico on December 12, and her boys, Jason, and her mother joined her on stage for the last song in the final show. Jason waited until the family was back in La before popping the question, »

Watch: Clive Owen Stars In Spanish Burger King TV Spot, Still Less Humiliating Than 'King Arthur'

30 December 2011 5:59 AM, PST | The Playlist | See recent The Playlist news »

Clive Owen is a respected actor, who starred in a number of acclaimed theater productions in the U.K. before going on to become a major TV star, thanks to Stephen Poliakoff's "Close My Eyes" and the popular TV series "Chancer." After starring in Mike Hodges' surprise hit "Croupier," he became a fully-fledged movie star too, with supporting roles in "The Bourne Identity" and "Gosford Park" turning into lead roles, opposite Angelina Jolie in "Beyond Borders," in Robert Rodriguez's "Sin City," and an Oscar-nominated turn in "Closer." He even starred in one of the very best films of the last decade, Alfonso Cuaron's astonishing dystopia "Children of Men." But things haven't been so great of late. Starring vehicles like "Duplicity," "The International" and "The Boys Are Back" underwhelmed, and even a decent performance in an underrated film like »

A representative for Wynn tells TMZ.com, "Paris is welcome on the Wynn properties now." »

'Hostel III' Set Visit - Part One

Four years after Hostel: Part II, the franchise that helped to define the torture porn sub-genre returns with direct-to-video Hostel: Part III, hitting stores December 27th, 2011. For anyone sick of that sweet Christmas cheer, the latest Hostel promises some stomach-turning bloodshed to help you get back to the dark side.  Series creator and director of the first two films, Eli Roth, is uninvolved with the latest entry, helmed by longtime Sam Raimi cohort Scott Spiegel (From Dusk Till Dawn 2: Texas Blood Money). The locale also shifts from Slovakia to Sin City, though producers probably should have given some consideration to setting the film right where it was being shot, in an economically devastated »

Elijah Wood: 'I was thrilled to play Frodo Baggins in The Hobbit'

22 December 2011 4:05 PM, PST | The Guardian - Film News | See recent The Guardian - Film News news »

Since Lord of the Rings, the actor has avoided big-budget epics. But now he's reprising his hobbit role and starring in a lavish Treasure Island adaptation

Is that the Ring? Around the ring finger of Elijah Wood's right hand is a band of silver with strange lettering on it – probably Elvish. As a reward for his lead hobbiting services in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, director Peter Jackson reportedly gave Wood the original Ring. And he still wears it. Doesn't he?

"No. This is Hebrew, " he says, twirling the ring around his finger. "I know, it has a kind of a similar look to it."

Oh.

"I do have the Ring, but it's not inscribed, and it's gold. But I don't think it's real gold – gold-plated. But, no, I don't wear it. I keep it in a little box." Not on a chain around his neck? "I carried it for a long time, »

Disney Bring Seth Rogen On Board To Produce The B Team With An Eye To Star

22 December 2011 2:21 PM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

‘Disney’ and ‘Seth Rogen’ are three words you probably wouldn’t expect ever to hear in the same sentence, but the movie industry is full of surprises, and if Robert Rodriguez can include Spy Kids and Sin City in his credits, then there’s nothing to stop Seth Rogen from coming on board to produce a Disney film.

Variety are reporting that Rogen, fresh from his turn in the indie comedy 50/50, which has been doing brilliantly in the past few months, is now set to board Disney’s spy comedy The B Team as a producer, with an eye to star in it too.

The project focuses on,

“a top secret agent being kidnapped, leaving his tech support team and researchers to rescue him.”

Disney picked up the project back in 2008, buying a pitch from the writing team of Derek Guiley and David Schneiderman (Chasing Liberty), with Charles Segars set »

Exclusive: Dread Central Visits the Set of Hostel Part III

22 December 2011 1:27 PM, PST | DreadCentral.com | See recent Dread Central news »

It was back on Friday, September 17, 2010, that I flew to Detroit, Michigan, for a set visit of director Scott Spiegel’s then-filming Hostel Part III (which releases direct-to-dvd via Sony Pictures Home Entertainment on December 27th). As my flight descended toward Detroit Metro and I looked through the plane’s windows at the city below, the metropolis seemed a sadly appropriate location to film the third installment in the historically bleak Hostel series.

The gray skies and dormant smokestacks and brick buildings set beneath it effortlessly communicated the economically ravaged Slovakia in which the preceding films took place, and as I would find, my set visit would touch me deeply, more for the ravaged state of this once great American city than the blood the filmmaker would spill in it, however.

With Michigan then offering a 42% tax rebate (higher at the time than any other state’s film incentive program, »

Mayweather, Jr. Sentenced To 90 Days In Jail

21 December 2011 1:56 PM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Embattled boxer Floyd Mayweather, Jr. has been sentenced to serve 90 days behind bars for allegedly hitting his ex-girlfriend last year.

The sports star was arrested in September, 2010 after Josie Harris accused him of striking her "multiple times in the head with his fist" and allegedly threatening to beat up their two children, who at the time were aged nine and 10.

On Wednesday, the athlete struck a plea deal with prosecutors to escape a felony battery charge and pleaded guilty to a lesser count of misdemeanour domestic violence. He also pleaded no contest to two misdemeanour harassment charges.

Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Melissa Saragosa then handed Mayweather, Jr. a three-month jail sentence and ordered him to complete 100 hours of community service, enrol in a 12-month domestic violence programme and pay a $2,500 (£1,560) fine.

If he fails to obey to the terms of the agreement, the boxer will be forced to serve another three months behind bars.

Mayweather, Jr. must turn himself into Sin City's Clark County Detention Center on 6 January.

Three days will be deducted from his total sentence for time served, reports TMZ.com. »
