All Bets Are Off: Top Ten Films About Las Vegas

10 hours ago | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

Las Vegas…the hotbed haven where dreams of high rollers are realized among the glitzy bright lights, the element of chance and luck and the adrenaline for instant fortune. But there is a deception to Sin City that is overlooked–the isolation of a gambler’s anxiety and desperation, the false sense of confidence at the craps table and the swinging doors of the psychological lows more so than the rewarding highs.

Still, Las Vegas has its excitable aura–both innocence and guilt–where one arrives to skillfully manufacture their financial profile or go bust. In some instances, the hedonistic expectations are defined in other fun, precarious ways. It is no wonder that Hollywood has come calling to put its distinctive spin on the capital city of adult entertainment. For decades, the movies have made Las Vegas its backdrop for wonderment, degradation, intrigue, comical curiosity and soul-searching revelations.

Watch: Lady Gaga Reveals Next 'American Horror Story' Season -- 'Hotel'

25 February 2015 1:51 PM, PST | Indiewire Television | See recent Indiewire Television news »

Lady Gaga posted a short teaser on her Twitter account, which shows her taking off a black, glittery mask in the same vein as one of the many lavish costumes she's worn in the past. In the teaser, Lady Gaga also revealed the fifth season of "American Horror Story" will be called "Hotel." The previous seasons have all been subtitled after where the season takes place, including "Murder House," "Asylum," "Coven" and last season's highly successful "Freak Show."  "Make your reservation now," she posted on Twitter. While there haven't been any other details about the new season, one can't help but make parallels to "Psycho" when thinking about horror and hotels. The teaser doesn't reveal any clues, but Lady Gaga as a hotel murderer sounds pretty great. Either way, it'll be interesting to Lady Gaga as she continues to explore acting, having appeared briefly in "Machete Kills" and "Sin City:. »

Why Rascal Flatts Are Vowing No 'Monkey' Business in Their New Vegas Show

25 February 2015 8:45 AM, PST | PEOPLE.com | See recent PEOPLE.com news »

When Jay DeMarcus, Joe Don Rooney and Gary LeVox of Rascal Flatts started planning the new stage show for their nine-day residency at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino Las Vegas, they looked for inspiration in some unexpected places. "We love Penn & Teller," DeMarcus told People of emulating acts who've had long-term success in Sin City. "We might add some illusion. We might also borrow some stuff from Carrot Top. We've been in talks with the Cirque du Soleil producers, so expect skimpy costumes, acrobats and a trapeze. Maybe even a Blue Man Group thing if we can find tights that fit. »

Box Office Report: Fifty Shades Of Grey Drops Big, Still Dominates

22 February 2015 10:21 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

After a record-breaking berth last weekend due to Valentine’s Day and much upfront demand, Fifty Shades of Grey plummeted down to reality, but still finished in first place with an estimated $23.2 million. That is a 73% drop from its opening last weekend, which broke a record for the month of February. With mixed word-of-mouth and the lack of a romance-themed holiday boosting ticket sales, a large drop was expected. However, even when compared to female-skewing adaptations of popular books, it was steep. In comparison, the most a Twilight film fell in its sophomore weekend was 70%, while The Fault in Our Stars fell 69% last June. Valentine’s Day, which opened in the same frame five years ago, dropped 70% in its second weekend.

Even with the treacherous drop-off, Fifty Shades of Grey has earned $130.1 million in its first ten days, and is currently 2015’s biggest earner. (American Sniper is, technically, a 2014 release »

Behind The Scenes Of Robert Zemeckis’ The Walk With Joseph Gordon-Levitt

18 February 2015 7:32 AM, PST | Obsessed with Film | See recent Obsessed with Film news »

Vanity Fair

In 1974, Philippe Petit broke into the World Trade Centre and walked a high-wire from one tower to the other. It’s a very well-known story these days, thanks to James Marsh’s popular documentary, Man on Wire, but I was still surprised to learn Robert Zemeckis was making it into a feature film. Surprised but pleased, especially when he cast Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the impish, ultra charismatic Petit.

That film is now in the can and undergoing post production. To keep the hype coming, there’s a new article in Vanity Fair about the shoot. A very green article – just look at these images from the set, and see how there’s almost as little actual scenery or set dressing here as with one of the motion capture movies Zemeckis spent the last fifteen years pioneering. This is bordering on Sin City stuff.

I’m sure the same »

Box Office Report: Fifty Shades Of Grey Dominates Valentine’s Day Frame

15 February 2015 11:13 AM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The studio executive that decided to release the big-screen adaptation of erotic best-seller Fifty Shades of Grey over the weekend of Valentine’s Day should see a healthy raise this week, as the R-rated romantic drama saw many of the book’s fans and curious moviegoers come out in droves. The film earned an estimated $81.7 million in its first three days, although close to half of that came from Valentine’s Day sales alone. In North America, Fifty Shades of Grey stands as the second-biggest February opening of all time (after The Passion of the Christ‘s $83.8 million), although it sold fewer tickets than 2001’s Hannibal when that thriller opened to $58 million 14 Februarys ago.

Domestically, the film now has the fifth-biggest opening for an R-rated film (after The Matrix Reloaded, American Sniper, The Hangover Part II and the aforementioned Passion). Another intriguing statistic: Fifty Shades had the largest opening for »

Clive Owen Picks Up the Sword Again in Trailer for 'The Last Knights'

It's been 11 years since Clive Owen strapped on some armor as King Arthur in the 2004 medieval action drama of the same name, and now he's picking up the sword again in The Last Knights. The film was shot in 2012 by Japanese filmmaker Kazuaki Kiriya (The Legend of Goemon), but it's been sitting on a shelf waiting for release since then. And now that the first trailer has arrived, it's easy to see why no one has been clamoring to get this movie on the big screen. The epic follows Owen as a fallen warrior who rises against a corrupt and sadistic ruler (Aksel Hennie) to avenge his dishonored master (Morgan Freeman). Watch? Here's the first trailer for Kazuaki Kiriya's The Last Knights from USA Today: The Last Knights is directed by Kazuaki Kiriya (The Legend of Goemon) with a script from Michael Konyves (Barney’s Version). Xs Was The Highest Grossing Nightclub In 2014

9 February 2015 5:17 PM, PST | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

The numbers are in for 2014 and as expected, Xs was the highest grossing nightclub last year, taking in a whopping $103-$105 million in revenue. Following close behind in second was another Vegas club, Hakkasan. In fact, 7 of the top 10 clubs are located in Sin City, with venues in New York, California and Florida mostly rounding out the rest of the list.

As anyone who has been to Vegas can attest to, it’s hard to find better nightlife than what you get there, and having been to Xs, Hakkasan and Marquee myself, I can definitely tell you that these clubs are deserving of the spots they’ve earned on this list. Along with many of the city’s other hotspots, they consistently attract top tier talent and put on incredible events. They’ve all got their pros and cons, of course, but you really can’t go wrong with any of the three. »

Daredevil: breaking down the trailer

4 February 2015 1:16 PM, PST | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Marvel's Daredevil TV show heads to Netflix in April. And as the trailer demonstrates, it contains welcome defenestration...

This article contains potential spoilers for Marvel's Daredevil Netflix series.

Marvel finally let fans have a look at the Daredevil series coming to Netflix, with the release of the first trailer. It's safe to say...this looks nothing at all like anything we've seen from Marvel Studios so far. Despite the fact that Daredevil is a TV production, it looks far more cinematic than Agents Of Shield or even Agent Carter which, even on their best days, still look like ABC TV shows.

Daredevil, on the other hand, looks like it has a little more in the tank than Marvel's other TV efforts. So, aside from the numerous nods to the character's Marvel Comics history, we took a look to see what else sets Daredevil apart from the rest of its Marvel Studios brothers and sisters. »

White Night Set to Scare Gamers in March

The indie devs at Osome Studios have revealed an all new survival horror game, White Night, (with some serious stylistic flair) in a sleek announcement trailer, along with the game's release date.  Come inside to watch the trailer and learn more!

I'm not normally big on horror games, but White Night has certainly caught my attention with its distinct visuals (think of Sin City but in a video game).  It's on my radar now, and thankfully we won't have to wait long for the game, as the developers have already announced a March 3, 2015 release date for it.

Set in the 1930s and drawing from the rich themes of noir-era storytelling, White Night blends third-person action, exploration and puzzle-solving with the mature tension, challenge and tone of old-school survival horror adventures. As players investigate a shadowy mansion in the dead of night after a near-fatal car crash, what started as a »
