Miley Cyrus set the roof on fire at the 2016 iHeartRadio Music Festival! Alita: Battle Angel Ropes In Deadpool Villain Ed Skrein

21 September 2016 12:47 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

He’s dabbled in the realm of superhuman mercenaries with middling reboot The Transporter Refueled, not to mention going toe-to-toe with the Merc With a Mouth himself in Deadpool; now, Ed Skrein is bound for the dystopian future initially dreamed up by manga artist Yukito Kishiro for Alita: Battle Angel.

News hails from The Hollywood Reporter, revealing that Skrein has closed a deal to join the long-gestating adaptation as, you guessed it, a villain – specifically Zapan, a nefarious cyborg who holds control of a powerful weapon called the Damascus blade. Details are thin beyond that; all we know for sure is that he’ll be rubbing shoulders with Maze Runner actress Rosa Salazar, who is attached to the title role of a female cyborg, Christoph Waltz and Preacher star Jackie Earl Haley.

James Cameron's Alita: Battle Angel Adds Watchmen's Jackie Earle Haley As A Cyborg Villain

14 September 2016 2:48 PM, PDT | ComicBookMovie.com | See recent ComicBookMovie news »

Jackie Earle Haley seems to be establishing himself as something of a geek icon. Having first growled his way into our hearts as Rorschach in Zack Snyder's Watchmen, he went on to appear in the likes of the Robocop remake, Preacher and The Tick, and has booked roles in future projects such as The Dark Tower. Now, we can add another well-loved adaptation to the list. THR reports that Haley will play the villain in the James Cameron-produced Alita: Battle Angel, which will be helmed by Sin City director Robert Rodriguez. No character identity has been specified yet, but sources indicate he'll be portraying "a monstrous cyborg in a villain role that will call for plenty of CG and greenscreen." Chances are that's going to be Alita's first significant adversary, Makaku, but there are several possibilities. Alita: Battle Angel is set to commence production in Austin next month, »

Preacher Star Jackie Earle Haley Enlists For Robert Rodriguez’s Alita: Battle Angel

14 September 2016 1:56 PM, PDT | We Got This Covered | See recent We Got This Covered news »

Of the three marquee anime adaptations in the works in Hollywood – Ghost in the Shell and Adam Wingard’s Death Note being the other two – Alita: Battle Angel is the one to emerge directly out of development hell, considering that Avatar director James Cameron has pushed to get the wheels in motion all the way back in 2003, at which time Guillermo del Toro was circling.

But Pandora came calling – as did the vast number of Avatar sequels – and Cameron has now passed on the mantle to Robert Rodriguez, director of such blood-thirsty noir hits as Machete and Sin City. Make no mistake, with a fall production start eyed, Alita: Battle Angel is finally beginning to coalesce at 20th Century Fox, and The Hollywood Reporter brings word today that the manga adaptation has tapped Preacher‘s Jackie Earle Haley in an undisclosed role. Sources close to THR do indicate that Haley »

Michelle Rodriguez’s Ridiculous Gender-Bender ‘re(Assignment)’ Is A Hot Mess — Toronto Review

14 September 2016 11:59 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

In Walter Hill’s bizarre gender-bending B-movie “(re)Assignment,” Michelle Rodriguez plays a gun-toting hitman transformed into woman against his/her will by a revenge-seeking Sigourney Weaver. Why would you not want to see this?

Here are a few reasons.

Hill may have directed some of the more endearing action showdowns over the last 30 years, from “The Warriors” to “48 Hrs.,” but “re(Assignment)” is an amateur work. Cheesy without being self-aware, hobbled by rampant transphobia that the screenplay’s too dumb to address, this inane burst of campy stupidity can’t get beyond the sheer absurdity of its very existence.

However, the outrageous scenario isn’t the film’s biggest problem. As Dr. Rachel Kay, Weaver is a dime-store Hannibal Lecter who spends most of the movie in a straightjacket, mechanically recalling her scheme to a stone-faced psychologist (Tony Shaloub, »

Criss Angel, is that you? The world-famous magician stepped out on the red carpet last night in Las Vegas and debuted a brand new look for himself, one that's clean-cut and drastically different from his usual signature style. Dressed in a fitted black suit and rocking a shorter hairstyle, the 48-year-old was wearing none of his usual grunge garb he's been known to wear in the past. Angel attended the Help (Heal Every Life Possible) charity event, which was held at the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Sin City, which focused on raising money for pediatric cancer research and treatment. '(Re)Assignment': Film Review | Tiff 2016

A demented pulp fiction about a brilliant surgeon who creates a Frankenstein monster by performing a sex change on the scumbag assassin who killed her brother, (Re)Assignment is, by any objective standard, a disreputable slice of bloody sleaze. But there’s also no question that veteran director and co-writer Walter Hill knows exactly what he’s doing here, wading waist-deep into Frank Miller Sin City territory and using genre tropes to explore some provocatively, even outrageously transgressive propositions. For longtime fans of the filmmaker, this Canadian-made low-budget revenge yarn will be embraced as Hill’s most entertaining and, on

Marc Alan Fishman: When Page Does Not Translate To Screen

3 September 2016 5:00 AM, PDT | Comicmix.com | See recent Comicmix news »

The battle lines are drawn each time a leaked picture hits the web. The tattooed Joker. The dark-costumed Superman. The old-school-but-with-new-web-shooters Spider-Man. The Flash — the TV one or the movie one? Aquaman, a.k.a. the WWE’s Roman Reigns. Starlord by way of Han Solo. And whatever the hell Lex Luthor was doing with wardrobe from the porn parody of The Social Network. It sets the nerds on fire in heated debates and discussions. At their core, no true fan of a character can draw peaceful breath while their favorite character is reinterpreted by Hollywood costumers and art directors who totally do not even know what comics are!

And then the stories themselves! What good is Batman v. Superman when it seems like the writer’s room and director are hell-bent on cramming eight major stories into a single bloated cry-fest? Or what of Marvel basically rewriting the same script over and over, »

By Todd Garbarini

I was first introduced to comic books in 1979 by my father’s cousin, Dan, who had an unusually large collection of them in his parent’s basement. I had already seen Richard Donner’s Superman: The Movie (1978) twice and loved it, completely enthralled with the big screen adventures of the Man of Steel as embodied by Christopher Reeve. I knew of Superman’s origins with DC Comics. Dan’s mother remarked, while he was in the basement of course, that she wished that he would “get rid of the comic books”. It’s a good thing he didn’t. Today, along with Jim Lee, Dan Didio is the current Co-Publisher of DC Comics. In the years hence, I have followed my fair share of comic book characters, but never with the level of enthusiasm that is on display at the annual San Diego Comic Con or the »

Huge DC Movies Update Includes Suicide Squad 2 and Green Lantern Details

29 August 2016 2:46 PM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Suicide Squad has done well for Warner Bros., despite very negative reviews, so they are moving ahead with their DC Extended Universe, and they have a lot more planned than many of us may know about. The studio has already officially announced a large slate of upcoming movies over the next few years, but a new batch of rumors has surfaced that details their larger plans, and there are a lot of them. Not surprisingly, those plans include a Suicide Squad sequel, but there is a lot of stuff likely nobody was expecting.

The rumored plans come from a Reddit post that was put together from various posts on 4Chan. This is not official word from Warner Bros.or anything like that, so the information is not absolute and is definitely iffy. With that being said, let's dig into these rumors, because there is a lot going on here. Starting with Suicide Squad 2, which again, »
