‘Fury: The Tales of Ronan Pierce’ DVD Review

21 November 2015 7:15 AM, PST | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Stars: Michael McCarthy, Jordan Elizabeth, Kane Hodder, R.A. Mihailoff, Harry Aspinwall, Brad Potts, Wade Gallagher, Rick Montgomery Jr., Joel D. Wynkoop, Circus-Szalewski, Robert Crayton, David Astone, Tovah Duffaut | Written by Kevin A. McCarthy, Michael McCarthy | Directed by Kevin A. McCarthy, Edward Payson

You know, I can get behind bad films; I can get behind films made intentionally to be bad (the “so bad its good” type of flicks) but there’s no way I can get behind a film whose sole purpose it seems is to rip-off other intentionally badly-made movies. That’s just lazy filmmaking.

Seemingly a cash-grab made to coincide with the debut of Kung Fury – with whom this film shares a Lot of it tropes, including the grizzled heroes narration - Fury: The Tales of Ronan Pierce is a low-budget take on the likes of Sin City and its ilk. It is a graphic novel brought to life on the screen, »

Meet the Movie You Won't Be Able to Watch Until 100 Years from Now

19 November 2015 1:30 PM, PST | | See recent news »

There are jokes to be made about anticipating a movie that won't come out till, say, 2020, because with so much to consume at the current moment, why waste time on a film you won't be able to watch for another five years?  Well, what about a film you won't be able to watch for another 100 years? How do we anticipate that, exactly? In one of the more unique short film tie-ins that we've ever seen for a product, filmmaker Robert Rodriguez (Sin City) teamed up with actor John Malkovich on a short film for the fancy schmancy Louis Xiii Cognac, which is aged 100 years. So the bottles you find right now originated in 1915, and the bottles they're cookin' up in 2015 won't be opened till the year 2115. To honor this tradition, Louis Xiii...

Robert Rodriguez and John Malkovich Made a Movie You’ll Never See

19 November 2015 6:15 AM, PST | The Film Stage | See recent The Film Stage news »

As cinephiles, one can feel restless if you’re not seeking out new films, attempting to conquer the filmography of a director or perhaps finding under-the-radar gems that haven’t been canonized. Well, unless you’re a few years old reading this or you miraculously discover the Fountain of Youth, you’ll never complete the filmography of Robert Rodriguez.

The Sin City director recently collaborated with John Malkovich on a film titled 100 Years, which no one will see for the next century. Backed by Louis Xiii Cognac, the reason for the delayed release November 2115 is because the liquor itself is aged for 100 years. As for the film, it’s currently locked up in a vault in Cognac, France and no footage has made its way online, but we do have a featurette and a trio of teasers created separately, imaging what the future might look like when the film is unveiled. »

Frank Miller Talks About Superman’s Penis and His Plans for a Children’s Book

17 November 2015 2:45 PM, PST | Vulture | See recent Vulture news »

There are no figures in the comics world more controversial than Frank Miller. But you'd also be hard-pressed to find one who's more influential. The 58-year-old writer and artist has been pushing buttons and boundaries since his groundbreaking run on Marvel Comics' Daredevil in the 1980s — a run that is the single biggest influence on the hit Daredevil Netflix series. Then, in 1986, he published his most monumental work: The Dark Knight Returns, a reimagining of Batman set in a dystopian future. He's had hits since then, many of which have made it onto the silver screen: Sin City and 300, most notably. But Dark Knight still towers above them all, setting the tone for nearly every Batman movie ever since (for better or worse). Now, against all odds, Miller is penning the Caped Crusader once again. Fourteen years after a poorly received (but underrated!) sequel in 2001, DC Entertainment is about »

Jessica Alba Takes Chocolate Cupcakes to the "Next Level"

Jessica Alba really is sweet. Like, really sweet. The Sin City star has teamed up with Sprinkles cupcakes to create Swirl, a vanilla and chocolate marble cupcake benefiting Baby2Baby. "I'm definitely a chocolate fan, so this is next level for me," Alba tells me. "I love to take a classic and give it an unexpected twist. The simplicity of the swirl, the fun of the milk chocolate cream cheese frosting and the mix of sprinkles all came together quickly." Getting the recipe just right with Sprinkles founder Candace Nelson "was so much fun," Alba said. "The best part is that I could be as indulgent as I wanted. The only limit was how delicious and delightful I wanted it »

'America's Next Top Model' Cycle 22 Prediction: Who Will Be Sent Home in Week 12?

5 November 2015 9:00 PM, PST | | See recent BuddyTV news »

Sin City didn't quite live up to it's name thanks to Devin on the most recent episode of America's Next Top Model. Mikey was determined to engage in a threeway with Mame and Hadassah, but Devin cockblocked his "friend" just as it looked like Mikey might seal the deal. Devin accused Mikey of distracting Ashley, causing her to be sent home. Mikey's snipe-y exchange with Devin took the wind out of his sail, so to speak.

What was more shocking than Lacey landing in the bottom two was Hadassah entertaining the idea of hooking up with human-cesspool, Mikey. Hadassah took the judges advice to loosen up to heart. It's too bad she applied it to her sex life and not her modeling.

Interview with Run, the creator, writer and artist of Mutafukaz

Villordsutch interviews Run and they talk all things Mutafukaz…

Mutafukaz (Vol.1) was released back in October 2015 and it is quite brilliant (you can catch our review of it here).  Not your average comic and certainly not following the normal rules of how a comic should flow, this piece of art by creator, artist and writer Run was described by us here at Flickering Myth as – “An insane treat from beginning to end!”.  With a Mutafukaz film on the way we took some of Run’s time to question him on all things Dead Meat City.

Villordsutch:  When you began creating Angelino and his world, was this something you knew people would relish or did you feel initially you were creating something for yourself to enjoy?

Run: I’m not going to lie, to start with I just created the characters for fun. I latched onto their looks, and that’s about it. »

Hollywood Film Awards: Benicio Del Toro to receive the Hollywood Supporting Actor Award for “Sicario”

29 October 2015 11:08 AM, PDT | | See recent news »

Benicio Del Toro is a pretty singular talent in the industry, so it’s never a surprise when he does worth worthy of being honored. This year, the 19th annual Hollywood Film Awards have seen fit to bestow upon him the Hollywood Supporting Actor Award for his performance in Sicario. Of course, Del Toro more or less stole that film, so it’s a totally viable honor. He’s going to be in play for an Oscar nod in Best Supporting Actor, but regardless of if that nom happens or not, this shows how he’s still crafting memorable supporting characters. That’s always been Del Toro’s bread and butter, so this is just a perfect citation for him… Here’s part of the press release once again announcing this honor: dick clark productions announced that Academy Award-winning actor Benicio Del Toro will receive the “Hollywood Supporting Actor Award” for Sicario. »

Gotham, Ep. 2.06, “By Fire”

Gotham, Season 2, Episode 5, “By Fire”

Written by Rebecca Perry Cutter

Directed by Tj Scott

Airs Mondays at 8pm (Et) on Fox

The Firefly story comes to a close this week in spectacular fashion as Gotham balances some very campy elements with emotional truths that skirt the line enough to work as an overall episode. There are many great, genuinely touching moments, others that are pitch-perfect black comedy, and a few instances of weird kitsch ideas that for the most part work, as they are executed with full-on commitment.

Gotham throughout its run has mixed many genres into its mold and some are more successful than others. This season has been more of a city-set western, with how brutal the villains have been and how Gotham feels almost lawless, even among those wearing the badge. Captain Barnes brings in the ideals of civilization, which is what Gordon began with in season one, »

Film Review: ‘Extraordinary Tales’

25 October 2015 12:46 AM, PDT | Variety - Film News | See recent Variety - Film News news »

Five stories of the macabre tend more toward monotony in the strikingly animated but rather wishfully titled “Extraordinary Tales.” Spanish writer-director Raul Garcia has brought considerable care and artistry to bear on this omnibus of the ominous inspired by the writings of Edgar Allan Poe, though not even the use of a different drawing style for each yarn can ward off a creeping sense of inertia; with a few exceptions, this death-obsessed affair never fully sparks to life. Released in Stateside theaters just in time for Halloween, the GKids pickup should appeal to young adults and toon buffs inclined toward non-mainstream animated fare, even if it only intermittently captures a sense of Poe’s telltale art.

A veteran animator who has worked on any number of Disney features (“Aladdin,” “The Lion King,” “The Hunchback of Notre Dame”) and co-directed 2008’s “The Missing Lynx,” Garcia has adapted Poe’s fiction in admirably straightforward fashion, »

Britney Spears Suffers a Wardrobe Malfunction at Her Piece of Me Concert and Handles It Like a Total Pro—Watch!

The show must go on! Britney Spears was performing "3" as part of her Piece of Me concert at The Axis at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas Friday when a closure in the back of her costume came undone. The pop star continued to hit her marks as several dancers tried in vain to zip up her leotard. At the end of the number, with her entire back almost fully exposed, the house lights dimmed and Spears ran offstage. A fan captured her wardrobe malfunction and later posted it on YouTube. It wasn't the first time Spears almost accidentally flashed the audience, though. Days after the singer kicked off her Sin City residency in December 2013, the back of her tight, sequined dress flew open unexpectedly as »

Rosario Dawson Joins The Cast Of The Lego Batman Movie

With a release date set for 2017, Warner Bros. are slowly bringing together their voice cast for The Lego Batman Movie, and a very impressive one it is too. Of course, Will Arnett will be reprising his role from The Lego Movie, joined by Michael Cera as Robin and Zach Galifinakis as The Joker. Now, The Hollywood Reporter has revealed another member of the Bat-family will be coming to the big screen, with Rosario Dawson signing on to be the voice of Batgirl. This marks the fourth comic book role for the actress, after Sin City, her recurring role as Night Nurse in Netflix’s Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage, and lending her voice to several of DC Comics’ direct to DVD animated movies. On top of that, she’s just a fantastic actress, and I’m incredibly excited to see how this voice cast works together. Directed by The Lego Movie »
