Dakota Fanning Celebrates Her 21st Birthday With a Trip to Las Vegas—and Guess Who Footed the Bill?!

25 March 2015 7:41 PM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

It may be belated, but Dakota Fanning's big birthday trip seemed well worth the wait. The actress turned the big 2-1 in late February but didn't really celebrate until last weekend when she jetted off to Las Vegas. Fanning and her family went to watch America's Got Talent Terry Fator's show at The Mirage, "The Voice of Entertainment." Apparently, Dakota and the fam watched Fator, who does celebrity impressions through ventriloquism, when he was on the show, so why not see the real deal in Sin City, right?! "Dakota and her family were fans of Terry from America's Got Talent and Dakota really wanted to see him," a source tells E! News. Especially when your entire birthday »

‘The Remaining’ DVD Review

22 March 2015 9:33 AM, PDT | Blogomatic3000 | See recent Blogomatic3000 news »

Stars: Johnny Pacar, Shaun Sipos, Bryan Dechart, Alexa Vega, Italia Ricci, Liz E. Morgan, John Pyper-Ferguson, Kim Pacheco | Written by Casey La Scala, Chris Dowling | Directed by Casey La Scala

If there’s one thing I’ll never understand it’s the American obsession with the rapture. Over the past couple of years we’ve seen a ton of TV shows and movies centered around the biblical event and most – like The Remaining – are, frankly, terrible. From the gloriously over the top Nicolas Cage film Left Behind, to the completely unfunny (and a waste of the talents involved) Rapture-Palooza, it seems the mix of religious themes and current Hollywood film making do not gel. Then again maybe it’s because, despite a belief in a higher power, I’m not the target market for films of this nature – after all, most rapture-themed films play on inherent fears found in religion. »

James Bond 007: revisiting Diamonds Are Forever

22 March 2015 5:43 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

Sean Connery returns to play James Bond in Diamonds Are Forever. It is not 007's finest outing.

A strange offering this one, sandwiched between two considerably more significant films. Undoubtedly a lightweight outing, despite featuring a heavyweight star in more ways than one. The cartoonish tone is sharpened by lashings of violence and a surprisingly high body count. A moribund Connery and garish Las Vegas add to the sense of a series going to seed. Implausibilities abound through Diamonds Are Forever. Yet its dysfunctional parts create a film that, while far from a classic, has a certain battered panache – and a wry smile throughout. I rather like it.

The Villain: Like buses, Blofelds come in threes. After Donald and Telly, here’s Charles – utterly estranged from his predecessors in appearance and manner. This Blofeld has hair, a penchant for crossdressing and a rather winning air of bonhomie. Plus there’s three of him. »

Video Game Review – White Night

22 March 2015 5:05 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Martin Burgoyne reviews White Night

White Night is an ‘Old School’ survival-horror game, shot in a very stark black & white style with heavy film noir influences. You play a mysterious individual who crashes his car late one night after he tries to avoid an apparition in the middle of the road (sound familiar?) The game is set in the jazz soaked era of the late 1930’s and has a suitable tone to match, with narration from your own character describing events as they transpire. Think Alone In The Dark meets Hotel Dusk with a little bit of Grim Fandango thrown in for good measure.

One of the first things that you’ll notice about White Night is its incredible visual style; the Sin City-esque comic book style makes great use of the current hardware that’s on offer. There are some cool lighting effects as you explore your environments »

Where Next for Nintendo?

We’ve all heard the news by now. Nintendo’s next console is codenamed “Nx”, it’ll be unveiled next year and it’s a dedicated gaming system with a “brand new concept”. But what does that all mean, and what does it mean for Nintendo going forward… read the full article.

‘Super Metroid': Mother Brain translates intensity and emotion into a wordless finale

There’s a moment in the Super Metroid finale, somewhere in between being brain-blasted by a creature that looks like it escaped from Attack on Titan and being saved by a flying alien parasite, that the whole nature of the battle is suddenly revealed to be entirely scripted. The idea of scripted battles, an idea that was still incredibly new back in the 16-bit era of the Snes, made for something of a rarity in the mid-90’s… read the full article. »

Like any doting father would do, Paul Blart (Kevin James) makes sure his daughter (Raini Rodriguez) has plenty of protection before going out in a new clip from Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2. Before leaving, Paul runs down the checklist with Maya: extra phone battery, flashlight, hot pepper spray, pocket knife/keychain/window smasher and baby road flares. When Paul insists that she carries a walkie-talkie, set to "monitor" mode, so Paul can hear everything that's going on, Maya reveals she already "feels like a Swat team."

In this sequel, in which Kevin James reprises the role of Paul Blart, the security guard is headed to Las Vegas to attend a Security Guard Expo with his teenage daughter Maya (Raini Rodriguez) before she departs for college. Interview with the creators of noirish puzzler White Night

18 March 2015 12:15 PM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Martin Burgoyne chats with Domenico Albani, Ronan Coiffec and Mathieu Fremont about White Night

I recently got the chance to interview Domenico Albani, Ronan Coiffec and Mathieu Fremont, the talented French trio down at Osome-Studio, about their “old school” survival horror game White Night. Here we discuss everything from major influences to French cuisine…

Hi guys! How are things down at Osome-Studio? I only just got the name when I said it out loud… (Oh… Some studio?)

Hi! Yes we wanted the studio name to begin with an “O” as our existing engine was called “OEngine”. We know some will pronounce it as “ozome” but we don’t care! The game is just released, so now we can relax a little bit and have more time for interviews like this one.

White Night is your studios first major project, had you been waiting for a long time to make a game like this? »

Female superhero adaptations that nearly happened

18 March 2015 4:20 AM, PDT | Den of Geek | See recent Den of Geek news »

From Wonder Woman to Red Sonja, here are the female comic book projects that we’ve missed out on…

Although Supergirl, Catwoman and Elektra are movies that exist, there are times when we wish they didn’t. To be honest, the ‘perfect’ female-headlined superhero movie is still the stuff of our cinematic dreams. Saying that, TV’s Agent Carter provided us with a brilliant example of bringing a female comic book character to the small screen earlier this year, which hopefully Hollywood will learn a lot from going forward.

Of course, Wonder Woman and Captain Marvel will be joining their respective cinematic universes soon, with Supergirl getting a pop at small screen success too. It looks like female comic book heroes will be getting the attention they deserve in the live action realm, finally.

This isn’t the first time the powers-that-be in Hollywood have tried to launch a slate of female superheroes, »

Can E!’s New Show Top These Real-Life Royal Family Scandals?

15 March 2015 6:00 AM, PDT | VH1.com | See recent VH1.com news »

E!’s first-ever scripted series, The Royals, premieres this Sunday at 10 Pm. It follows a fictional British royal family, led by Queen Helena (Elizabeth Hurley), as they navigate scandals in the public eye. The show is undoubtedly influenced by the real-life shenanigans of several royal family members (*cough, Prince Harry, cough*). However, will fantasy be more salacious than fact? The show certainly has some big (read: crazy) shoes to fill.

You’d be hard-pressed to find a scandal the royal family hasn’t experienced. Affairs! Nude photos! Foot fetishes (more on that later)! For families perceived as the picture of sophistication, the Irl royals certainly know how to shake things up. Relive these moments with us to feel better about your own questionable life choices.

‘White Night’ is a haunting mixture of ‘Sin City’ and ‘Silent Hill’

14 March 2015 6:57 PM, PDT | SoundOnSight | See recent SoundOnSight news »

White Night

OSome Studio

Ps4, Xbox One, PC, Mac

You can practically see your breath from the moment you turn on White Night, the new title from OSome Studio. There is a dreamlike coldness to the game, one that is felt almost immediately as the player begins wandering the darkness of night in the aftermath of a shocking car accident.

Set in a sort of proto-noir 1938, this is a game that’s 50% ghost story, and 50% detective story. The supernatural elements are made clear pretty quickly, as White Night basically lifts the opening directly from the original Silent Hill, in which a ghostly woman causes a car accident, while the mystery bits evoke a Sin City comparison from the outset.

After a brief chapter that introduces the central gameplay elements , the player finds themselves inexplicably locked in a creepy mansion, with a box of matches and the frightfully unreliable electrical system »
