See The Original Dune Handout That 'Helped' Fans Follow Along

19 August 2014 6:37 PM, PDT | | See recent Cinema Blend news »

One of the key reasons that prognosticators under-estimated the performance of Marvel Studios' Guardians of the Galaxy is because modern audiences haven't always proven to be up for big space adventures that aren't already part of their own established cinematic brand. In the last couple of years we have seen big budget epics like John Carter and Ender's Game completely fail to capture attention, perhaps because people weren't interested in keeping track of the special terminology and following the progression of new world building. As it turns out, studios were paranoid about this kind of reaction to complex sci-fi dating all the way back to 1984, as evidenced by these Dune "glossaries" that have found their way online. What you see above and below are two full pages of definitions that were handed out to patrons paying to see director David Lynch's adaptation of Frank Herbert's famous sci-fi »

6 movie adaptations that, like 'The Giver,' came too late

15 August 2014 2:53 PM, PDT | EW - Inside Movies | See recent - Inside Movies news »

If you were to go see The Giver this weekend without knowing a thing about the book it was based on, you’d be forgiven for thinking that it’s some sort of suburban Hunger Games ripoff. In reality, Lois Lowry’s 1993 novel predates just about every modern Ya film franchise, from The Hunger Games to Divergent to The Maze Runner—you might even say it established the authoritarian dystopia motif that’s in vogue these days. Unfortunately, all of those other books beat it to the big screen. Instead of looking like the groundbreaking, thoughtful story that’s in the novel, »

All the actors rumored to star in 'True Detective' season 2

5 August 2014 1:27 PM, PDT | - PopWatch | See recent - PopWatch news »

The casting process for True Detective’s second season has become just about as complicated as Rust and Marty’s search for the Yellow King in season one. And if you add in the 21st-century problem of social media—which the Yellow King was not a big fan of—one could argue that it’s an even more complicated puzzle. For months, there have been rumors surrounding the number of leads—two! three! four!—and from there, rumors surrounding who will play those leads—Josh Brolin! Brad Pitt! Jessica Chastain!

At this point, the show’s creator, Nic Pizzolatto, has »

Taylor Kitsch Offered Lead Role in The Raid Remake

5 August 2014 10:30 AM, PDT | GeekTyrant | See recent GeekTyrant news »

Taylor Kitsch is a solid actor who had a bad run of box office flops that included the likes of John Carter and Battleship. Just because he had a few bombs it doesn't mean he's not talented. I enjoyed him in Friday Night Lights and one of his more recent films, Lone Survivor.  According to The Wrap he has recently been offered the lead role in The Raid remake, which is being directed by Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3).

If cast, the actor will join Frank Grillo (Captain America: The Winter Soldier), who confirmed himself that he was going to be in the movie. I really wish this remake wasn't happening, I just don't see how it can be as badass and hardcore as what we've seen in the original films. The cast they are putting together though is pretty solid so far.

When talking about the story that the remake will tell, »

Battleship’s Taylor Kitsch May Take on The Raid Remake

5 August 2014 7:52 AM, PDT | Beyond Hollywood | See recent Beyond Hollywood news »

Hollywood’s upcoming remake of Gareth Evans’ “The Raid” already has a director in Patrick Hughes, who is coming off “The Expendables 3,” along with a screenwriter in Brad Ingelsby, but it still needs a star. Is that Taylor Kitsch? Word from The Wrap is that the “Battleship,” “John Carter,” and most recently, “Lone Survivor” star has been offered the lead in the upcoming movie, but apparently there’s a chance Kitsch might end up doing HBO’s critically acclaimed “True Detective” instead — or do both, one after another. The remake will closely follow Evans’ original, following “an elite Indonesian Swat that gets trapped inside a building run by a vicious gangster and his thugs.” Much ass kicking and killing commences. It’s basically also the same premise for the “Dredd” remake. The 2011 film, originally titled “The Raid: Redemption,” cemented the international presence of Evans and his star, Iko Uwais. »

Taylor Kitsch Being Courted for the Lead in the Unnecessary Remake of 'The Raid'

5 August 2014 7:38 AM, PDT | LatinoReview | See recent LatinoReview news »

There a lot of movies I hear or read people rave about, and when I finally watch them I'm underwhelmed.

"The Raid" is not one of those movies. It's every bit the thrill ride people say it is; so it's no surprise Hollywood wants to remake it.

I'm not inherently against remakes, there are several I like quite a bit. "The Departed" and "Last House on the Left" are great examples of remakes that are equal to, and in many ways surpass, the original films. That being said, I'll try to have an open mind watching the American remake of "The Raid," but I'm not terribly optimistic at this point.

The Wrap is reporting that Taylor Kitsch has been offered the lead role. I've seen Kitsch in "Savages", "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", "Battleship" and "John Carter of Mars," and I wasn't exactly impressed.

What so you think? Can Kitsch pull off the role? »

The remake of Gareth Evans’ martial arts epic has been written by Brad Ingelsby (Run All Night), with Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3) set to direct. It will reportedly stick closely to the plot of the Indonesian original, which centres on a Swat team member who has to fight his way out of a tower block filled with ruthless mobsters.

The site reports that Kitsch – who is also in line for one of the leads in HBO’s True Detective – is yet to reach a deal with Screen Gems, with the financial aspects of the deal yet to be agreed upon.

Vince Vaughn in talks with HBO for True Detective season 2

5 August 2014 5:19 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Last month it was revealed that Colin Farrell (Winter’s Tale) and Taylor Kitsch (John Carter) were in negotiations with HBO about joining the cast of True Detective, and now TV Line is reporting that Vince Vaughn (Delivery Man) has also started talks with a view to filling one of lead roles in the second season of the acclaimed show.

So far, very little is known about the plans for the second season of True Detective, although creator Nic Pizzolatto has said that it will be set in California, and will feature either three or four leads. Back in May, it was also rumoured that Jessica Chastain (Zero Dark Thirty) had been offered a role, but it seems HBO will be waiting until it has secured its cast before an official announcement is made.

Taylor Kitsch Wanted For Remake Of ‘The Raid’

4 August 2014 11:34 PM, PDT | The Hollywood News | See recent The Hollywood News news »

After nearly hitting the skids on Mars in John Carter, actor Taylor Kitsch’s star is on the rise again with reports that he is top choice to lead a remake of Indonesian actioner The Raid. The taut, martial arts-heavy original about a Swat team fighting their way out of a dodgy tower block detonated the box office and it was only a matter of time before someone decided we needed to see exactly the same thing only in English. Screen Gems are teaming with source material producers Xyz Films and Expendables 3 director Patrick Hughes will orchestrate the mayhem. After megaphoning duties involving Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Mel Gibson The Raid USA should be a stroll in the bunny-laden park for him.

Kitsch is also in the frame for True Detective Season 2, following news of Vince Vaughn’s potential casting, so the next few months could be very busy and indeed varied for him. »

Taylor Kitsch Offered ‘The Raid’ Remake Lead Role

4 August 2014 4:06 PM, PDT | | See recent Screen Rant news »

It wasn’t long ago that Taylor Kitsch was expected to be the next big box office draw. 2012 saw the Friday Night Lights star headline three major films in the form of John CarterBattleship, and Savages. Unfortunately for the actor, all of those projects failed to connect with audiences, and his career stalled before it even really started.

However, his past failures haven’t caused him to give up hope just yet. A new report suggests that Kitsch is being offered the lead role in the upcoming English-language remake of the action film The Raid - while rumors continue to circulate about his potential involvement with season two of the HBO crime drama True Detective.

The Wrap‘s sources are saying that Expendables 3 ...

Taylor Kitsch Has an Offer for the Lead Role in Remake of 'The Raid'

4 August 2014 2:46 PM, PDT | | See recent news »

A remake of the Indonesian action hit The Raid has been in the works since 2011, but it wasn't until earlier this year that The Expendables 3 director Patrick Hughes was brought on board to direct the film. Production was delayed slightly back to 2015, and the cast is currently being rounded up with Frank Grillo being the only confirmed cast member after being mentioned on a shortlist with desired stars like Ethan Hawke, Anthony Mackie and Luke Evans. However, a new name has emerged who wasn't on the shortlist as The Wrap has learned that John Carter and Battleship star Taylor Kitsch has an offer for the lead role. However, it's far form a done deal, because Kitsch is still in consideration for a lead role in the second season of HBO's original series "True Detective." It appears he could still end up with that coveted television role, but his representatives »

Taylor Kitsch Offered The Lead Role In The Raid Remake

4 August 2014 2:03 PM, PDT | | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Are you a good looking, decently athletic male leading man? Do you love the feeling of getting the crap kicked out of you repeatedly, take after take, by stuntmen who have no mercy for your whining? Well then, your name might be Taylor Kitsch, because that's exactly who is now up to tackle the English-language remake of The Raid. The Wrap reports that John Carter himself, Taylor Kitsch, has been offered the lead role in The Raid remake. Directed by Patrick Hughes (The Expendables 3), the remake is being penned by Brad Inglesby (Out Of The Furnace), and is slated to start shooting in January. This is all happening while Kitsch is also trying to grab a lead role in the second season of HBO's True Detective, which starts shooting this fall and wraps right before the martial arts remake starts up.
