Exclusive: Neil Burger Emmy-winner Dirk Wittenborn and Johnny Lin’s new production arm, Clandestine Laureate, are teaming on a new untitled film that tells the story of unlikely math genius Christopher Havens. Burger is set to direct, reteaming with his The Lucky Ones screenwriter, Wittenborn, who recently finished the script.
The story follows Havens, a high school drop-out, who is incarcerated and while in solitary confinement, developed an unlikely passion for number theory. Against all odds, he pioneered a new branch of mathematics that stunned the world. Havens still has 15 years left of his 25-year murder sentence.
“Through candid storytelling, we will share untold details of Christopher’s tumultuous journey and his accomplishments,” Lin said. “Who better to capture this idiosyncratic mind of a genius than Dirk and Neil, who both have worked on mad scientist-type projects. Adding in the elements of a gruesome prison experience, this reunion of Wittenborn...

It’s happening. It’s finally happening. What was once a particularly pervasive and aggressive Internet meme is now a reality. HBO Max’s list of new releases for March 2021 is highlighted by none other than the mythical Snyder cut.
The entity now known as Zach Snyder’s Justice League will premiere on March 18. While it was originally planned to be a four-part miniseries, this recut version of 2017’s ill-fated Justice League will in fact be a four-hour movie. But perhaps even four hours won’t be enough for fans who have been waiting years for just such an event.

At yesterday’s Sundance Film Festival premiere of Love, Antosha, a new documentary celebrating the life of the late actor Anton Yelchin, his grief-stricken parents Irina and Viktor Yelchin emerged for a Q&A to a standing ovation from the crowd. Sundance had been a good home to Anton, who first visited with Alpha Dog in 2006 and returned many times, and the Park City audience sobbed as Price’s film—gathered from reams of material Anton shot and wrote, as well as reminiscences from friends and co-stars—unspooled for the first time.
For the Yelchins, the past few days here in Park City have been fraught with emotion. But it’s a pain they’ve been blinded by for two-and-a-half years now, since their son’s cruel death in 2016 aged just 27. As Yelchin’s sweet notes to his mother—signed “Love, Antosha,” her nickname for him—make clear, their bond with Anton burned deep.

While Anton Yelchin might be best remembered for his role in the blockbuster Star Trek franchise, the young actor led a fascinating life before his tragic and untimely death on Sunday. Yelchin was born in Leningrad, Soviet Union, in 1989, roughly two years before the city became St. Petersburg, Russia, after the collapse of the U.S.S.R. His parents, Irina Korina and Viktor Yelchinwere, were famous pair figure skaters who reached celebrity status in Russia as stars of the Leningrad Ice Ballet for 15 years. But despite their popularity and relative wealth, Irina and Viktor fled Russia to make a better life for their son.

On the Road movie reedited for Toronto screening Based on Jack Kerouac's '50s novel, Walter Salles' Otr adaptation starring Garrett Hedlund, Sam Riley, and Kristen Stewart (above photo) will be screened at the upcoming Toronto Film Festival. We all knew that. What we didn't know is that Tiff 2012 will unveil a new cut of the film (via indieWIRE), which premiered last spring at the Cannes Film Festival to mixed reviews. The 2hr20m drama has been downsized to approximately 125 minutes. That's an interesting development, as Otr has already been screened in several countries, with varying degrees of box-office success. [Check out the On the Road trailer. Check out Kristen Stewart On the Road poster; Garrett Hedlund On the Road poster.] Otr movie reedit hardly unique On the other hand, different cuts shown in different countries is hardly something new. Whether as a result of poor critical/box-office reception, (perceived) local sensibilities, and/or censorship, the movie you watch in, say, Canada isn't necessarily the exact same movie watched by someone in Singapore,...

Seriously, We're Shocked. Plus A Really, Really Boring Poster For 'Don't Be Afraid Of The Dark' Paz De La Huerta is, it seems, a very good actress, with fine taste. It's been clear ever since his debut in the otherwise weak "Hearts in Atlantis" that Anton Yelchin was destined to be a pretty big star. Across films like "Alpha Dog," "Fierce People," "Charlie Bartlett" and the unjustly neglected TV series "Huff," Yelchin's blended nerdiness and charisma with ease, and he's moved into tentpole territory in recent years with the only performance with a pulse in "Terminator: Salvation," and as part of the ensemble in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek." The actor has got a busy 2011 ahead of him, with the indie "Like Crazy" proving to be the talk of Sundance,…...

The notion that high society is just as uncivilized—if not more uncivilized—than the rest of society is nothing if not old news. Looking at characters who inhabit the highest of high class through a dark lens is a sub-genre in itself. Fierce People does this in the bluntest way possible by drawing comparisons between a fictional family whose patron is the seventh wealthiest man in the world and a wild, South American tribe indigenous to the rain forest.
Drawing these comparisons is Finn (Anton Yelchin), a 15-year-old kid whose absent father is an anthropologist studying among the fictional Iskanani tribe down in South America, and whose mother is a massage therapist (happy endings included) who is trying to kick a cocaine habit. Finn is the kind of 15-year-old who, instead of becoming some burnout, has become a self-taught, competent smart-ass and loves to show it. Of the handful...

Kristen Stewart may be an international superstar thanks to her role as Bella Swan in The Twilight Saga, but she actually had critics and moviegoers singing her praises well before Twilight (2008) exploded into theaters. Born to John and Jules-Mann Stewart on April 9, 1990, Stewart kicked off her acting career at just eight years old, in a school play, and just a couple of years later, after brief appearances in The Thirteenth Year (1999), The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas (2000), and The Safety of Objects (2001), she wowed audiences with a remarkable performance as Jodie Foster's diabetic daughter in the thriller Panic Room (2002). Stewart never looked back from there, mixing major studios films with indie projects, and amassing such credits as Cold Creek Manor (2003), Speak (2004), Catch that Kid (2004), Undertow (2004), Fierce People (2005), Zathura (2005), In the Land of Women (2007), The Messengers (2007), The Cake Eaters (2007), Into the Wild (2007), What Just Happened (2008), The Yellow Handkerchief (2008), and Jumper...

The title of the HBO Films documentary "Secrets of the Tribe" is a bit of a trick. The feature, premiering as part of Sundance's World Cinema Documentary Competition, is set against the backdrop of the popular field of Yanomami Indian studies, but that isn't the tribe in question. No, Jose Padilha's doc is actually focused on the intellectual tribe of anthropologists and academics who have built their careers and expanded their livelihoods by studying, exploiting and possibly even harming the Yanomami. Napoleon Chagnon, one of the doc's central figures, called his then-groundbreaking study "Yanomamo: The Fierce People," but as somebody who...

Eisenberg has appeared in Roger Dodger, The Emperor’s Club, Cursed, The Hunting Party and his break-out movie, The Squid and the Whale, a well-reviewed independent drama with Laura Linney and Jeff Daniels. Stewart, meanwhile, first rose to international prominence starring opposite Jodie Foster in Panic Room. Bride of Frankenstein is one remake that Universal has been kicking around since the '90s with various names attached wielding (often wild) varied approaches. He will co-write the film with Dirk Wittenborn ( Fierce People ). Brian Grazer and Sean Daniel are producing. We have heard the future of Universal's classic monster remakes are riding on the success of November's The Wolfman , like Creature from the Black Lagoon . Time will tell if this Bride is finally resurrected.

Kristen Jaymes Stewart was but a newborn babe in arms on April 9, 1990. John and Jules Stewart brought her into the world on that day and bestowed her with that daring namesake. Eighteen years later, that very name would be one echoing from gleeful mouths across the globe - as she would make her way around to promote the world-renowned film she took the challenging lead in. Kristen Stewart’s advance to the metaphorical top has not been instantaneous, by a long shot, but her role in 2008’s Twilight would ring in not only her first year of adulthood, but also, it seems, a whole new professional lifestyle. Her start was ambitious, but Stewart’s beginnings in film were impressive, indeed. At eleven, Stewart took her first role in a film called The Safety Of Objects. Portraying Sam Jennings, that little lady stole the stage as an angst-ridden know-it-all that many eleven-year-olds find themselves to be.

Funny. Mischievous. Charming. Three words to describe the young and talented Anton Yelchin. I first saw him in David Duchovny's The House of D (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0372334/), where he plays Duchovny's young character, Tommy. His scenes were mostly with Robin Williams and while the film is anything but comedy, he managed to bring so much into his character. - - - - - - Says the young actor: Before we started the film and during rehearsals, I'd ask David (Duchovny) if he liked what I was doing, and he'd say yeah. What was in the script was what I did, and he liked it, so we never discussed how much of it should be based on David. What he told me was he delivered meat, he lived in New York in '73, and grew up in the Village. But what I liked was that David telling...

Panic Room star Kristen Stewart has signed to join Meg Ryan and Adam Brody in In the Land of Women for Warner Independent Pictures and Castle Rock Entertainment. Jonathan Kasdan is making his directorial debut on the film, described as a bittersweet comedy. It centers on a Los Angeles screenwriter who heads to the suburbs of Michigan to recover from a breakup. Once in the Midwest, he begins having a relationship with a mother and daughter (Ryan and Stewart) who live across the street. Anonymous Content's Steve Golin and David Kanter are producing. Shooting starts early next year on the project from a script by Kasdan. By then, Stewart will be segueing from her role opposite Tim Robbins and Dax Shepard in Columbia Pictures' Zathura for director Jon Favreau. She will next be seen in Fierce People for helmer Griffin Dunne and Lions Gate Films. Stewart recently starred in Catch That Kid for Fox and the indie Speak. She's repped by the Gersh Agency and attorney Joel McKuin.
