Plot Summary

Schimanski's financial situation looks like a disaster once again. Without hesitation, he accepts the job of an unknown Paul Rosenfeldt to protect him as a bodyguard. He ignores Marie-Claire's warnings, although he too finds Rosenfeldt's behavior and his story strange and confused. It becomes dangerous for the ex-Ruhrpott commissioner when his client dies a short time later. Schimanski is suspected of murder and has to flee from his former colleagues Hunger and Hänschen of all people. His escape turns into an adventurous journey into the world of Jewish life. With the help of the beautiful Lea Kaminski, whom he obviously likes very much to Marie-Claire's displeasure, the wise Rabbi Ginsburg and a mysterious combination of numbers, Schimanski succeeds in clarifying the connections between Rosenfeldt's secret. But even a professional like him realizes too late that this number combination contains another encrypted name behind which a well-known man is hiding, who is becoming a great danger not only for Schimanski.
