Andrew Garfield, Mahershala Ali, Ruth Negga, and five others received their first-ever acting nominations for 2017. While these actors are new to the Academy Awards, you may recognize them from their earlier work.
Poor Girl was the only other TV film in the brief Haunted series along with The Ferryman. Florence Chasty (Lynne Miller)is taken on as Governess to Hilary Wilson (Matthew Pollock)the child of Louise Wilson (Angela Thorne)and Oliver(Stuart Wilson)to continue his home education.
The story takes place in the early 1900,s as the earnest but inexperienced Miss Chasty begins to have visions which appear to be of the future. The film is well acted and directed, the scenes between Florence and Hilary especially so.There is a strong psycho-sexual theme throughout.Poor Girl is far from a conventional ghost story and appears to be more on the theme of emotional transference.Strangely compelling.
