Storyline

Bradin, Nikki and Derrick are 3 kids from an average normal Kansas household. Their whole life is thrown upside-down when their parents are tragically killed in a car accident. Ava Gregory (their aunt) gets custody of her niece and nephews and they move into her Californian home (in Summerland). Ava, a struggling clothes designer, lives with her best friend and business partner, Susannah Rexford, her friend, an ex- pro.surfer, Jay Robertson and her ex-boyfriend, real estate agent, Johnny Durrant. All four of them are highly unequipped to handle children and are not use to including them in their everyday lives. The series follows each of their struggles through life. Ava is trying to get her fashion line to take off. Whilst also fighting feelings for Johnny, her childhood sweetheart. And now trying to bring up her sisters 3 children up as well as possible. Johnny is forever trying to fight his feelings for Ava, knowing he ruined that relationship long ago. Johnny is the father figure ...

Goofs

In the episode where we learn about the summer of '97, closer to the end of the episode, Bradin goes and sits down beside Jay. When he runs up, he's shown wearing flip-flops. After a scene between the two of them, Jay gives Bradin his board and Bradin runs off with it. When he gets up to leave there are no sign of the flip-flops.

Wonderful Family and teen drama

I really enjoy Summerland. It is feel good family program that still has drama and both adult and teen angst, but not overkill on the sex department. Sexual theme programing is a legit genre, but it is always good to have a little break once in a while. I Don't think it is fair to compare Summerland to past WB hits such as Buffy and Angel because those two shows fall in quite different genres. If anything compare this show to a little 7th Heaven, and little Dawson Creek, and even a little One Tree Hill. These three shows are not very similar, but I believe Summerland takes themes from all three, a feel good family drama, that still has some adult and teen, even younger appeal, where fans of all three, or pick or choose of the three can perhaps enjoy something together.
