Jon Turteltaub To Helm Family Fantasy Movie Beached

We've seen on-screen stories about children being raised by wolves, but how about whales? Apparently it's a dream that director Jon Turteltaub is interested in making a reality. The National Treasure director is now attached to direct Beached, a new fantasy family movie set up over at Fox 2000. The film follows a "chubby four-year-old child" who falls off of a boat into the ocean during a family vacation. He is then rescued and raised by whales and he grows up to become an Olympic swimmer. THR says that the film has actually been in the works since 1997 and was originally written by Ted Griffin, whose credits include Steven Soderbergh's Ocean's 11, Matchstick Men, Rumor Has It... and the television series Terriers. He most recently wrote the screenplay for the Brett Ratner movie Tower Heist. Betty Thomas, who is best known for movies like 28 Days, Doctor Dolittle and Alvin and the Chipmunks

10 directors in need of a hit

They’ve had their successes, and they clearly have talent. Yet all hasn't been going to plan. Luke looks at 10 directors in need of a critical and financial hit…

You know how it is. You’re latest feature goes down well with critics and audiences alike, and before you know it, the scripts are flying through your door.

Your last film went down well, too, and thanks to this momentum, men in suits are asking you to make films now, whereas previously all your work had been attained via a complex and degrading system of begging, selling your principles and lying in the foetal position outside film studios, weeping and yammering in desperate gibberish, until a passing producer took pity and on you and gave you a lowly job as second assistant director on a small film of questionable promise or merit.

So, you’ve finally made it, eh? Fantastic.

Hollywood's Continued Search for 'That Guy'

Taylor KitschUpon hearing the news that Taylor Kitsch ("Friday Night Lights," X-Men Origins: Wolverine) is being courted to star in Oliver Stone's next film, Savages, Cinematical's Jacob Hall posted an article asking "Is Taylor Kitsch the Next Sam Worthington?" And it makes sense. Kitsch has a similarly rugged and athletic look, and he's already set to star in two of 2012's biggest blockbusters: Battleship and John Carter of Mars. The latter is a Disney sci-fi epic being called "The Next Avatar" in some circles.

But, to me, the comparison to Worthington is to compare to the latest in a long line of fresh faces the major studios force down our throats, only for us to tire of them within a year or two. For the sake of this article, I'll call refer to this idea of the "next" big actor as the search for "that guy." Some of them,

Costner and Jones are in 'The Company Men'

Perhaps Kevin Costner has lined up a film worth watching after the dismal Swing Vote last year and films such as Mr. Brooks, The Guardian and Rumor Has It... rounding out his last four films. However, an indie feature with Tommy Lee Jones sounds interesting as the two will star in The Company Men, joining the already cast Ben Affleck . The film is described as a drama about the impact a corporate downsizing has on both its casualties and survivors. Affleck plays a corporate hotshot whose Porsche and six-figure salary vanish after he gets laid off. Costner plays his brother-in-law, a salt-of-the-earth drywall installer who gives him a construction job. Jones plays a senior partner in the firm, a principled man who struggles with the greedy actions of his partners. John Wells wrote the script and will direct. Production begins in April in Boston. On top of this news we

Rob Reiner Returning To Princess Bride Territory

Ever miss the Rob Reiner who made movies like The Princess Bride, rather than the guy who made soppy romantic comedies like Alex & Emma and Rumor Has It...? Apparently Rob Reiner does too, since his next project sounds like a throwback to The Princess Bride that might actually have the potential to be good. The Hollywood Reporter says Reiner's next directing project will be Book of Shadows, an adventure story written by Zoe Green that was originally dreamed up by Reiner himself. The movie stars a young man "who must embark on the perilous journey of first love and face many trials of maturity while on the dangerous quest to close a mythical tome called "Book of Shadows" in order to restore balance to the world." Throw in some Rodents of Unusual Size and you may as well have Inigo Montoya involved.. All of this is fine by me-- ...

Aniston's short film is about a nurse who gains perspective on her marital problems while caring for a dying patient. Aniston Slams Engagement Stories
Jennifer Aniston has lashed out at reports she is engaged to Vince Vaughn, labeling the stories "insane" and insisting "people are getting fed a lot of bull." The Rumor Has It star claims she was forced to speak out after legitimate news agencies began reporting the engagement as fact. She tells American publication People, "I'm not engaged and I don't have a ring and I haven't been proposed to. Normally we don't even acknowledge these things because they're endless, at this point, the thing that got me was that I was getting phone calls from Greece! My Aunt Mary in Greece is getting accused of lying! I mean, they're getting angry. My dad calls and he says, 'Honey, it's on the CNN crawl, ' and I'm going, 'Wait a second!' When it starts to travel over into the Today show and CNN and supposedly reliable and accurate news programs, then you just go, 'This is insane. People are getting fed a lot of bull.' The American people need to believe (the news). Please. Get it together!" As for the real status of her relationship with Vaughn, whom she met last year while filming The Break-Up, she says, "We're just being. We're having a good time."

A Pitt family source tells American publication Life & Style that Aniston has told her former sister-in-law Julie, who has also been invited to the wedding, that although a date has not been set, the actress would like it "sooner rather than later." Vaughn reportedly went down on one knee while the couple were in Europe promoting the film that brought them together, The Break Up. He says, "Jennifer's great. She's just really smart and funny and easy to be with - very considerate. She's great. I think (having children) takes a lot of focus, takes a lot of attention. I think it would be nice at some point to have a different priority. I think that time would come. But not any time in the near future for me. No, I have not talked about having kids with Jennifer. First we have to have the $8 million wedding."

Costner's Fury at Link to Lewd Case

  • WENN
Kevin Costner has angrily rubbished reports he is the mystery star who performed a sexual act on himself during a massage at a spa in Fife, Scotland. The revelations are part of a British court case, in which a masseuse is suing a former employer, claiming she was fired following the incident with the unnamed superstar. The Rumor Has It actor, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of dropping his towel and pleasuring himself, just moments before his wife went in for a massage with the same therapist, in October 2004. But Costner, who spent his honeymoon at the resort with his bride Christine, is furious his name has been linked to the case. His representative Paul Bloch tells the New York Daily News, "We find it unfortunate that Mr. Costner's name has been brought into what is essentially a dispute between a company owned by a good friend of his and a former employee - and that it would tarnish what was a wonderful time spent at this resort with his wife."

Pitt Confirms Relationship and Baby

  • WENN
After a year of speculation, Brad Pitt's publicist has confirmed the actor is dating Angelina Jolie, by releasing a statement from both of them confirming the actress is pregnant. The Hollywood couple have been regularly photographed with Jolie's adopted children Maddox and Zahara over the past year, but both have refused to confirm the nature of their relationship. The couple have always vehemently denied they became romantically involved on the set of Mr. And Mrs. Smith in 2004, while Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston. After weeks of rumors of Jolie's pregnancy, America's People magazine quoted the actress as telling a charity worker in the Dominican Republic, "Yes, I'm pregnant." A statement from Pitt's publicist Cindy Guagenti issued yesterday confirms the actor is set to be a father and refers to him and Jolie as "they" for the first time. Guagenti says, "I can confirm they are expecting. There isn't a lot more to say." Pitt, 42, is currently in the process of legally adopting Jolie's Cambodian son Maddox, four, and Ethiopian daughter Zahara, 10 months and the 30-year-old Girl, Interrupted beauty has petitioned for the tots' surnames to be changed from Jolie to Jolie-Pitt. When asked for Aniston's response to the pregnancy news, a spokesman for the Rumor Has It star says, "Jennifer is not in the practice of commenting on the lives of other people." Meanwhile, Jolie's estranged father, actor Jon Voight says, "Angie is my daughter and I am always wishing the best for her."
