Excellent short-films about the ordinary silly people in ordinary silly situations.

This series of these short films are based on the novels by Veikko Huovinen. Huovinen was a Finnish writer that produced quite a few humorous novels. The best of the best were filmed and titled as Lyhyitä erikoisia (Short Excentrics).

One of my favourite stories is the one with an old woman and her husband going to a party. This takes place in the beginning of the last century. The couple take kick-sledges to get there. On the way they start to compete -as the woman wants to be unbeatable in everything- and arrive to the party hot and sweaty. While having coffee and biscuits the woman overhears some woman talking about her bad knee and other things that are wrong with her so this friend of ours just has to go and make up things that supposingly are wrong with HER. So the competition of bad health starts amongst the women. This is very amusing. As being a serious-never-smiling-Finn, to my very big surprise I found myself on the floor laughing my guts out while watching this.

I highly recommend Lyhyitä erikoisia to everyone who can find enjoyment in strange humour based on situation comedy and laughing at other people.
