A select group of people, apparently strangers to one another, are invited for a free weekend at the newly opened Lynch Cross Moorland Hotel. The owner and manager, Harry Scott-Forbes, has much on his mind however. Apart from having just opened a new business, he's concerned about a news clipping he's found about a murderess who escaped from prison some months before and begins to wonder if that person might be their cook, Monica Dawes. The group is snowed in and the telephone is out of order so when Harry is found dead, the guests begin to wonder who among them is the murderer. One of the guests, Bernard Smith, also makes the connection between all of them and realizes that they were all involved in the trial of a woman who subsequently committed suicide. Is someone out for revenge? Written by garykmcd

And Then There Were....Quite A Few
23 October 2011 | by See all my reviews

Five strangers are selected to be the first guests at a remote new hotel. There's a terrible snowstorm outside and the phone line is cut. The owner of the hotel receives an anonymous letter suggesting that the (female) cook working there is actually a convicted ex-killer. Naturally, when one of these people is found murdered, suspicions fall on her. But what's the connection between all these characters?

The second episode in the "Time For Murder" series is both more complex (in its plot) and more shallow (in its characters) in comparison to the first. The setting is atmospheric, the story is decent, but the execution is a bit plodding. Trivia note: both Joanna David and John Castle starred in Joan Hickson Marple films - David also did an episode of "The Agatha Christie Hour"! ** out of 4.
