Was originally pitched as a feature with Lindsay Lohan as Blair Waldorf & Justin Chatwin set to play Nate Archibald. When that fell through, its backers (who had the rights to the stories) approached Josh Schwartz about turning it into a series.
Headmistress Queller was named after writer/producer Jessica Queller.
The last song to be played in the series was "You've got the love", by Florence and the Machine. The band was a recurring one during the last seasons, a circumstance that made them gain popularity.
The character of Lily van der Woodsen was originally named Darla, until the writers changed it at the last moment.
In Season 2, Serena is shown to have a Myspace profile, where she posts photos of her trip to Buenos Aires. ( Her user name is ServdW.)
Casting director David Rapaport revealed the network initially pitched Ashley Olsen and Rumer Willis for Blair and Serena, respectively. They ended up going with Blake Lively and Leighton Meester, much lesser-known at the time, as the team felt they really captured the essence of the show.
