TV: White Gold Review

24 May 2017 10:47 AM, PDT | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Author: Gloria Daniels-Moss

Everyone liked The Inbetweeners, right? Yes, the show had many cringe-worthy, repetitive and outright stupid moments but offered a fair, if heightened take on the burden of adolescence.

Damon Beesley, who co-wrote the series alongside Iain Morris, now branches away from the playground and brings us a slightly darker and sassier story with travelling double-glazing salesman Vincent (Ed Westwick) heading the show. The BBC2 comedy White Gold starts as it means to go on. It’s slick, smart and silly – there is fun to be had here that’s for sure.

It’s Essex, 1983 and here we meet cocksure Vincent, our charismatic and terribly arrogant narrator that gets his claws in from the get go. This obnoxious man is the epitome of a classic salesman; giving us handy tips and breaking the forth wall just to tell us exactly how amazing he is at his job and »

White Gold: the Inbetweeners double-glaze Britain in the Loadsamoney 80s

24 May 2017 6:33 AM, PDT | The Guardian - TV News | See recent The Guardian - TV News news »

Stars of The Inbetweeners and Gossip Girl have come together to flog windows in a new TV comedy that perfectly captures the cash-flashing, un-pc 1980s

It’s 1983. Britain has a female Tory Pm. Labour is in the doldrums. Individualism is the ideology of the day. In a double-glazing showroom in Essex, Jay from The Inbetweeners is taking the mick out of Simon from The Inbetweeners, while Chuck Bass from Gossip Girl looks on with amusement.

This is the strange-but-familiar setup for White Gold, the new comedy from Inbetweeners co-creator Damon Beesley, which follows the triumphs and balls-ups of a trio of window salesmen as they try to shimmy up the greasy pole to success. Gossip Girl’s Ed Westwick is Vincent Swan, a smarmy family man (who continually cheats on his wife) with the nous to play the lucrative double-glazing game for massive profit. Inbetweeners stars James Buckley and Joe Thomas »

Tommy Dewey on Casual Nudity (Now with More Chace Crawford!): ‘At This Point I’ll Drop Trou for Anything’

Pretty much everything is in changeover as Casual embarks upon its third season on Hulu, but one thing will remain consistent: plenty of nudity.

Indeed, the show’s cast has been baring soul and skin for two seasons now, and star Tommy Dewey teases there’s plenty more where that came from, including a cheeky performance by a former Gossip Girl heartthrob.

“Anyone who comes on the show, you’re going to show your ass,” Dewey teases upcoming guest star Chace Crawford. “I demand it.”

“Obviously he’s terribly handsome,” Dewey tells People of the 31-year-old. “I think I can »

This season of TV has been a busy on one the CW — especially if you’re into their DC fare. With Supergirl finally joining the network in an official capacity, they had four hours of superhero programming each week. With the addition of Black Lightning, next season will bring us five superhero shows — a huge achievement for any network, really.

This coming fall will, of course, see the return of all four other shows, and with the current seasons finally wrapping up, CW has released synopses for each one of them. While the network has always been really good about keeping big spoilers out of the synopses, at the very least, you can get a glimpse of where the momentum for each show is going.

10 Things We Learned From CW’s Upfront

18 May 2017 12:12 PM, PDT | Variety - TV News | See recent Variety - TV News news »

The CW’s annual advertiser-packed fest always shines a light on superheroes, but this year, the young-skewing network brought more broad programming than ever before.

Yes, the net has one new series in the superhero genre with midseason drama “Black Lightning,” but the 2017-2018 slate is wide-ranging from a military program to a “Dynasty” reboot — “without the shoulder pads,” quipped CW president Mark Pedowitz from the stage at the New York City Center.

Still, the superhero schtick set off the upfront with CW’s executive vice president of national sales, Rob Tuck, walking out in a green cape with a dollar-sign symbol printed on the back, deeming himself as “Sales-Man.” On a big screen overhead, super-heroines Melissa Benoist of “Supergirl” and Caity Lotz of “Legends of Tomorrow” acted as if they were none too impressed, but the skit played well in the room.

Here are 10 things we learned from the CW’s upfront:
