The Best Gossip Girl Couple Ever Is...

26 July 2016 10:30 AM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

Let's be real: There were a ton couplings on Gossip Girl (yet no Dan and a dude, which book lovers know all about), and many of them had (and actually still have) very vocal fans. Are you a Dair or a Chair? Regardless, you, like us, probably have strong feelings about all the Gossip Girl couples the show paraded out over the six-season run on The CW. To celebrate our love for all things posted by that sass monster voiced by Kristen Bell (who turned out to be Dan, which still gives us pause) during E! News' We ♥ TV Week, it's time to revisit these beloved couples, like Dan (Penn Badgley) and Serena (Blake Lively), Nate (Chace Crawford) and Serena, Chuck (Ed Westwick) and Blair (Leighton Meester), »

Could a Gossip Girl Reboot Ever Actually Happen?

26 July 2016 5:00 AM, PDT | E! Online | See recent E! Online news »

You know you still love it. Though it ended in 2012, the world is still obsessed with Gossip Girl, which launched the careers of Blake Lively, Leighton Meester and Ed Westwick and gave the TV world some of its most iconic couples (Chuck and Blair, anyone?). Given our recent nostalgia obsession, with revivals of Full House, Gilmore Girls and Boy Meets World nearly breaking the Internet, it wouldn't be too crazy for us to consider hailing a cab back to the Upper East Side, right?  We have to be the bearer of less than great news, Gg fans, but executive producers Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage haven't really considered rebooting the CW hit series, which ran for six seasons. Emmys Continue to Snub The CW in Top Categories

14 July 2016 10:12 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

This morning, the Television Academy announced the Emmy nominations and once again continued to pass up the CW in the top categories, despite the network delivering two of the most critically acclaimed series, “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” and “Jane the Virgin,” of this past TV season.

The oft-overlooked network has struggled to get recognized by the Television Academy, and has even poked fun at this trend in years past:

#Emmy nomination day! Or as we call it, Thursday.

— CW Network (@TheCW) July 19, 2012

The consolation prizes were some very deserved nominations in the creative arts side: “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” nabbed nods for single-camera picture editing for a comedy series, original music and lyrics (“I’m Going on a Date with Josh’s Friend!” and “Settle For Me”), choreography (“I’m So Good at Yoga,” “A Boy Band Made Up of Four Joshes” and “Settle For Me”) and original title theme music, while “Jane the Virgin »

30 years ago today: The Goblin King lured us into ‘Labyrinth’

27 June 2016 6:00 AM, PDT | Hitfix | See recent Hitfix news »

Labyrinth, starring late rock icon Davie Bowie as the Goblin King, opened in theaters 30 years ago today. Though Labyrinth — a dark, wonderfully weird, glam rock semi-musical populated mostly by puppets — was never going to be a movie that won over a wide audience, it’s still wild to think about how poorly it did upon release given the film now has a secure place in pop culture history and in Bowie’s legacy. It opened at no. 8 at the U.S. box office and earned less than $13 million, barely over half of its reported budget. It was the final film directed by Jim Henson, and in the aftermath of Labyrinth’s poor reception, son Brian said of his father, “that was the closest I've seen him to turning in on himself and getting quite depressed.” Though Henson never got to witness the full fandom that would amass around the movie, »

The Shallows surprises audiences and scares up a $16 million opening

27 June 2016 4:15 AM, PDT | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Shark movie The Shallows opened domestically over the weekend [read our review here], and while it was never going to compete with giants like Finding Dory and Independence Day: Resurgence, it performed very well.

Opening on just under 3,000 screens, the Blake Lively-starring film brought home an estimated $16.7 million (an average of $5,500 per screening). With a rumoured budget of $17 million, The Shallows has almost already made back its money back and is well on its way to turning a solid profit. The film scored a B+ on CinemaScore and has come out pretty favourably with critics, so it should drop around 60-70% next weekend.

The Shallows has only opened in the Us so far, and all other territories will open in the next few weeks and months.

The Shallows Review: The Best Shark Movie of The Summer

23 June 2016 9:45 AM, PDT | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Hollywood has an interesting history with movies about sharks. Steven Spielberg pretty much nailed it so impossibly hard and expertly with Jaws in 1975, that it has been very difficult for any movie prominently featuring a shark to live up to that very high bar ever since. Many have tried, few have succeeded. But sharks are still scary, and people still buy tickets to movies that have sharks in them, so occasionally we will get a shark movie. This summer is one of those occasions, and this time it is former Gossip Girl Blake Lively who is at the mercy of nature's perfect killing machine in The Shallows.

Coming from Sony Pictures, this thriller centers almost entirely on Nancy (Blake Lively), who is in Mexico mourning the loss of her mother, who seems to have died of cancer based on a picture that Nancy looks at on her phone. It is »

Blake Lively is hoping to put this whole “Oakland booty” controversy behind her. The “Gossip Girl” alum, who got plenty of tongues wagging with a photo and comment about her derriere last month, appeared on Sway Calloway‘s radio show to defend her comment, and to stand behind — well, in front of — her rear end. “I was celebrating my body,” Lively declared. “It’s nice to have a nice curve and not look like you’re starving to death.” Also Read: Sir Mix-a-Lot Breaks Silence on Blake Lively 'Booty' Brouhaha As followers of such things will no doubt recall, Lively stirred up controversy when. »

Blake Lively Defends Her Controversial "L.A. Face With an Oakland Booty" Post: "I Was Celebrating My Body"

Blake Lively likes her Oakland booty and she cannot lie. It's been more than a month since the actress appeared at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival where she nailed more than a few red carpets. Ultimately, one fashionable look became front-page headlines when the former Gossip Girl star commented on Instagram. "L.A. face with an Oakland booty," she wrote with a clear view of her beaded gold gown from the front and back. While she was referencing Sir Mix-a-Lot's hit song "Baby Got Back," some critics didn't find the comment too funny. On Tuesday, Blake assured fans once and for all that her intentions were never to hurt anyone's feelings. She was simply celebrating »

5 Must-See Films At The 2016 New York Asian Film Festival

21 June 2016 10:47 AM, PDT | Indiewire | See recent Indiewire news »

If it’s late June in Manhattan, it must be time for the city’s annual dose of martial-arts madness, indescribably twisted revenge stories, and go-for-broke dramas about sexually liberated high school girls. A collaboration between Subway Cinema and The Film Society of Lincoln Center, the New York Asian Film Festival has established itself as one of the summer’s most vital (and occasionally traumatizing) annual events, a celebration of the best and most bonkers in classic and contemporary Asian cinema. Even in an age of VOD and streaming, many — or most — of these gems never receive American distribution, making the fest that much more valuable to local cinephiles.

Running from June 22 thru July 9, the 2016 edition promises to live up to the Nyaff legend, as iconic films like “All About Lily Chou-Chou” and “Tetsuo: The Iron Man” will be screened alongside a smorgasbord of new stuff that’s just waiting to be discovered. »
