Parents Guide for
"American Dad!" (2005) More at IMDbPro »

The content of this page was created directly by users and has not been screened or verified by IMDb staff.
Since the beliefs that parents want to instill in their children can vary greatly, we ask that, instead of adding your personal opinions about what is right or wrong in a film, you use this feature to help parents make informed viewing decisions by describing the facts of relevant scenes in the title for each one of the different categories: Sex and Nudity, Violence and Gore, Profanity, Alcohol/Drugs/Smoking, and Frightening/Intense Scenes.

There are frequent sexual references and innuendos, and sometimes they are quite explicit.

There is no on-screen sexual activity, but couples have been seen lying together after sex.

Women are seen wearing clothing that reveals cleavage

Steve and his friends are comically hormonal. They are almost always discussing sex, or trying to get it.

Characters occasionally wear revealing outfits. Woman's cleavage are shown in some scenes.

Some episodes feature scenes with scantly clad strippers, but no nudity is ever shown.

Nudity is always pixelated or blurred if ever present, but these instances are extremely rare. Although rare, in the DVD releases the nudity is uncensored starting in Volume Five. This includes infrequent frontal male nudity and (once) topless female nudity.

Earlier episodes feature bloodless comic violence, but later seasons have featured some instances of graphic bloody violence for shock value.

Portrayal of violence is done realistically in later seasons for the sake of shock humor. Violence has included shootings, beatings, violence against women and children, accident violence, violence against animals, animal mauling people or other animals, death/dying/depictions of loss in general, and references to rape and torture.

Fairly frequent use of "bitch", "slut", "bastard", "whore" "ass", "damn", "hell", "piss", "crap" etc.

Starting in Season Two, episodes began using "fuck" or "shit", but they are always bleeped by FOX.

Starting in Season 11, milder swear words such as "shit" and "goddamn" are no longer bleeped in episodes due to the program moving to cable television. Brief casual swears such as "Jesus" or "Christ" as well as insults such as "asshole" are left uncensored as well, but are not commonly used.

On the DVD releases all profanity is uncensored.

Some episodes we see Roger taking drugs such as cigarettes, cocaine, and cannabis.

Stan has been seen taking crack in a few episodes and even high on it in a store (played for laughs)

Alcoholism is a very common factor on the series.

Some of the violence could be disconcerting.

Jokes about death/dying, rape, violence, disease, abortion, harassment of women and children, portrayals of disability (mentally and physically), and many other unsavory topics may be off-putting.
