Seacrest's 'On-Air' going off air

28 July 2004 | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

On-Air With Ryan Seacrest won't be on the air for a second season. Twentieth Television, which distributes the syndicated talk-variety strip, has decided to cancel the freshman show, which has been struggling with low ratings since its January debut. "It was our desire that the program would appeal to a wide array of viewers, but unfortunately, the marketplace's response was not as strong as we had hoped," Twentieth said Tuesday in a statement. The announcement comes a day after news surfaced that the Sinclair Broadcast Group had pulled the strip from more than 20 of its TV stations (HR 7/27). It's unclear what will happen to the slots On-Air occupies on the Fox O&Os, where it airs primarily in early fringe. Fox O&Os carrying On-Air include such major-market stations as WNYW in New York, KTTV in Los Angeles, WFLD in Chicago, WTXF in Philadelphia and WFXT in Boston. »

'Seacrest' out in some markets

On Air With Ryan Seacrest will soon be off the air in certain parts of the country. Sources said that the Sinclair Broadcast Group has pulled the syndicated talk show strip from more than 20 of its TV stations. The move could deal a major blow to the show, which has been struggling with low ratings since its January debut, unless distributor Twentieth Television can lineup new replacement stations in those markets. Sinclair stations that carry On Air include WCWB in Pittsburgh, WLFL in Raleigh-Durham, N.C., WZTV in Nashville, WTTEL in Columbus, Ohio, and KABB in San Antonio. It's unclear when the move will take effect. A Twentieth spokesman declined comment Monday while Sinclair executives did not return calls seeking comment. »

Seacrest getting more 'Air' time

1 July 2004 | The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News | See recent The Hollywood Reporter - Movie News news »

Twentieth Television plans to keep Ryan Seacrest on air for another season. Sources said Seacrest's option to host a second season of the syndicated On-Air With Ryan Seacrest has been picked up by Twentieth, which distributes the talk-variety strip. The deal pertains to Seacrest only and does not apply to the show itself, sources said. Last week, a handful of lower-level staffers exited the show before its scheduled production hiatus in early August, but sources said those departures have not affected production on the remaining weeks of the current season. »
