Celebrate National Look-Alike Day with these 7 famous doppelgängersCelebrate National Look-Alike Day with these 7 famous doppelgängersAdriana Floridia4/20/2017 9:40:00 Am

Today is National Look-Alike day, and so naturally we're here to take a look at some startlingly similar actors and actresses in film.

Have you ever watched a movie thinking it was one actor on screen, only to realize later that it was actually someone who just looked a lot like them? We've been there, and we'll admit that we've mixed up these actors before. Who hasn't thought that Frodo was Harry, and Harry was Frodo? We've also confused Gandalf and Dumbledore, but we're trying to put that one behind us.

The following actors could quite possibly be related, if we looked at their ancestral charts. If that's not the case then we can't explain the phenomenon of their nearly identical likenesses. We wish we had a celebrity twin.

Random Roles: Jane Seymour on how Dr. Quinn was not supposed to last and her “whole new career” in comedy

16 April 2017 10:00 PM, PDT | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Welcome to Random Roles, wherein we talk to actors about the characters who defined their careers. The catch: They don’t know beforehand what roles we’ll ask them to talk about.

The actor: Since making her film debut in 1969, Jane Seymour has experienced a number of career renaissances and repeatedly managed to reinvent herself as an actor, something that happens all too infrequently in Hollywood. While you can attribute part of her success to her ability to bounce between high drama and lowbrow comedy seemingly without blinking an eye, it’s just as likely because she doesn’t like to lose. With a filmography that includes spies (Live And Let Die), Cylons (Battlestar Galactica), century-spanning romance (Somewhere In Time), frat-boy comedy (Wedding Crashers), and life in a frontier town (Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman), Seymour keeps audiences guessing as to where she’s going to turn up next. Currently ...

A remake of the 1987 Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn romcom Overboard will star Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez.

Overboard, a prominent example of 1980s cinematic absurdity, is getting a big screen remake. The original 1987 movie was directed by the late Garry Marshall, and starred Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. For the remake? The stars of the reboot will reverse the roles of their original counterparts.

The upcoming remake of Overboard will star Anna Faris and Eugenio Derbez. The original film centred on the unlikely romance between wealthy heiress Joanna (Hawn) and blue-collar carpenter Dean (Russell). After initially mistreating Dean on a job, Joanna accidentally falls off her yacht, later found with no memory of her identity. However, motivated by both revenge and love, Dean tricks Joanna into believing that she’s 'Annie', his wife and mother to his four young rowdy sons; a awkwardly difficult, »

Sandy Wexler Trailer Takes Adam Sandler Back to the 90s

19 January 2017 11:18 AM, PST | MovieWeb | See recent MovieWeb news »

Adam Sandler is back yet again with another Netflix original movie. Sandy Wexler is the third of four comedies that were part of his exclusive contact with the streaming service. And this might be the best one yet. Which, I'm sure, some of you will joke that it shouldn't be too hard to top The Ridiculous 6 or The Do-Over, but those have been some of Netflix's biggest original movies to date. Today, we get the first trailer for Sandy Wexler, and it's pure Sandler gold!

Sandy Wexler will do for the 90s what The Wedding Singer did for the 80s, bringing a shot of nostalgia straight to the veins of the Millennial generation. Though, Sandler let this one simmer a little bit longer. The Wedding Singer arrived in 1998, not even a decade after the 80s had passed, and not everyone was as nostalgic for the era as some teens »

Following a remarkable run of hit comedies in the early 2000s — among them, 2003’s Old School, 2004’s Dodgeball: A True Underdog Story and Starsky & Hutch and 2005’s Wedding Crashers — Vaughn had deliberately pivoted towards drama with the 2006 dramedy.

“But I didn’t follow through on it,” the 46-year-old says with unmistakable regret. Instead, he lost his way for a decade, during which he was humbled by critical and commercial disappointments — see Fred Claus »

Newswire: Wedding Crashers’ David Dobkin to direct Disney’s “trapped in a toy store” movie

5 January 2017 6:15 PM, PST | avclub.com | See recent The AV Club news »

Disney has been fighting to make a movie about a kid who gets trapped in a toy store overnight since at least 2014, when Will Ferrell and his Gary Sanchez Productions company were developing the project with Hot Tub Time Machine director Steve Pink. By 2015, though, Pink and Ferrell were both off the film, which had been named Overnight At 42nd Street, and Napoleon Dynamite’s Jared Hess had stepped up to direct it instead. Now, nearly two years since then, Variety is reporting that Disney has brought in Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin to helm the project—which is now going by the simpler title Overnight.

Variety doesn’t say what happened to Hess, but it does have slightly more details about the plot. Apparently, it’s about “a father and son who win a contest to spend a night in a lavish toy store” and then have ...

Rachel McAdams and Jason Bateman to star in New Line comedy Game Night

4 January 2017 11:20 AM, PST | Flickeringmyth | See recent Flickeringmyth news »

Rachel McAdams (Doctor Strange) is in negotiations to join Jason Bateman (Zootopia) in New Line Cinema’s upcoming Jonathan Goldstein and John Francis Daley-directed comedy Game Night.

The project, which is being produced by Bateman and James Garavente through their production company Aggregate Films and John Davis and John Fox through Davis Entertainment, centers around “a group of couples who gather for their regularly planned game night when something goes murderously wrong.”

Bateman has been attached to the project for a few months now as a producer, but only recently signed on to star.

The film sounds like it could be a great ensemble comedy, and it surely will line up a talented cast in the weeks to come. Bateman is coming off of Office Christmas Party, which was largely panned by critics despite its adept ensemble, so hopefully Game Night delivers where that movie wasn’t able to. »
