Peter Segal to Direct Neighborhood Watch

18 December 2009 11:42 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Variety is reporting that director Peter Segal (Get Smart, 50 First Dates) is in talks to direct Neighborhood Watch for Twentieth Century Fox.  The director was planning to film the sequel to Get Smart next, but the film has been postponed for the second in year in a row by Warner Bros. due to Carell’s interest in doing another film with Tina Fey or a spec script by Dan Fogelman.  This now leaves Segal free to direct Neighborhood next, which will be written by Jared Stern (Bolt) and produced by Shawn Levy (Night at the Museum).  The film will tell the story of a newcomer to a community “who joins the neighborhood watch to only discover that there are supernatural elements afoot.”  The project was originally going to be directed by David Dobkin (Wedding Crashers) with Will Ferrell set to star, but the duo have since moved on.

Peter Segal To Direct Sci-Fi Comedy Neighborhood Watch

18 December 2009 8:35 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Peter Segal is a perfect example of failing upwards in Hollywood. The man started his feature film career by directing the third Naked Gun movie, which basically killed the franchise. Then he directed Tommy Boy, which, I admit, is fantastic, but has since directed three Adam Sandler movies (not the good ones) and the Nutty Professor sequel. In spite of his ability, or lack thereof, people do go see his movies, with none since 2000 making less than $120 million at the box office. So naturally, the man continues to have projects thrown his way. The newest one is Neighborhood Watch, a sci-fi comedy from 20th Century Fox, according to Variety. Originally a vehicle for Will Ferrell and Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin, the film centers on a man who moves to a small town and joins the neighborhood watch committee, only to discover that the town is experiencing bizarre paranormal activity. »

DVD Review: ‘The Hangover’

16 December 2009 11:00 AM, PST | The Flickcast | See recent The Flickcast news »

New to DVD and Blu-Ray this week is possibly one of the best comedies of the year, and definitely one of the highest grossing one’s of all time. Of course I mean the Todd Phillips’ film The Hangover, starring Bradley Cooper (Wedding Crashers), Ed Helms (The Office), Zach Galifianakis (Out Cold), and Justin Bartha (National Treasure).

Three groomsmen (Cooper, Helms, and Galifianakis) try to retrace their steps after a drunken and drug-hazed night of debauchery in Las Vegas in order to find best friend Doug (Bartha) so he can walk down the aisle at his wedding in less than 24 hours. The film is a madcap ride full of great cameos with the likes of Matt Walsh (Upright Citizens Brigade) as an ER doctor, Heather Graham (Boogie Nights) as a recently married stripper, and Ken Jeong (Community) as a Chinese mobster out to recover a bag of stolen poker chips from Doug’s pals. »

Golden Globe-Nominated 'Hangover' Takes A Swig, 'Inglourious' Storms Shelves And More, In The DVD Report For Dec. 15

15 December 2009 4:00 PM, PST | MTV Movies Blog | See recent MTV Movies Blog news »

Getting some of the funniest guys in show business and dropping them in Vegas for a bachelor party sounds like a winning formula, but nobody expected "The Hangover" to gross a whopping $450 million dollars worldwide. Now the film is hitting DVD and Blu-ray, and is our lead film for this week's DVD Report.

Todd Phillips already had hits like "Old School" and "Road Trip" in the bank at the time he was begged to director "The Hangover," and the veteran comedy helmer pulled together a cast of unproven but fan-favorite stars. Headlining the zany misadventure romp would be Bradley Cooper (best known as the quintessential a-hole in "Wedding Crashers), Ed Helms ("Daily Show" and "The Office" alum) and underground comedy icon Zach Galifianakis. While all three shared a level of success, none had ever held a film together on their own, making this a considerable experiment for all involved.

Disney axes Robin Williams’ romantic comedy ‘Wedding Banned’

14 December 2009 4:31 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

Last month we reported that Anna Faris was in talks to star opposite Robin Williams in the romantic comedy Wedding Banned, a movie that has now been canceled by Disney.

Diane Keaton was also attached to the project.

The comedy revolved around a divorced couple who kidnap their daughter on the day of her wedding so she doesn’t repeat the same mistake they did oh so many years ago. As they flee, evading cops and a very angry groom, the couple rekindle their ancient romance.

Wedding Banned was axed by Disney chairman Roch Ross. The film’s production house, Mandeville Films, will pitch the film to other studios.

Ross already stopped development on its 20,00 Leagues Under The Sea remake from director McG.

Restaurant Sued Over Wilson 'Snub'

11 December 2009 4:11 AM, PST | WENN | See recent WENN news »

Bosses at a New York City restaurant are facing a lawsuit from a former employee who alleges her hours were cut after she snubbed a date with Owen Wilson.

The Wedding Crashers star was dining at Manhattan's Cafe Habana when he reportedly asked waitress Monica Mateo out for a coffee.

Mateo turned the offer down, and now she's suing the SoHo celebrity hangout because she claims her hours were drastically reduced after she rejected Wilson, according to New York Post gossip column PageSix.

The lawsuit, filed in Manhattan Federal Court, alleges restaurant manager, Leslie Meenan, shouted at Mateo, "You know what coffee means in Hollywood, right? Don't screw this up. Owen's a good customer."

Three other former waitresses are also suing the owners of Cafe Habana over allegations they were forced to share tips, denied overtime pay and "subjected to a heavily sexually charged environment." »

Director Todd Phillips Talks The Hangover 2 and Due Date

10 December 2009 5:49 PM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Everyone wants a piece of director Todd Phillips now that his film The Hangover grossed $277 million off a budget of $35 million and he’s already planning the sequel as he finished up on his next film Due Date starring Zach Galifianakis, Robert Downey Jr., and Jamie Foxx.  Today, Phillips did a junket for the release of The Hangover on DVD and Blu-ray next Tuesday.  Naturally, journalists had questions about these highly-anticipated future projects.

Here’s a quick breakdown of what Phillips had to say about The Hangover 2: They’re in the middle of writing it right now and plan to shoot it next summer.  Aside from raises, the movie shouldn’t end up costing ridiculously more than the original.  It’s going to be not only a new location but new circumstances, which Phillips believes will both be surprising once they’re revealed.  They’re shooting for Memorial Day »

Four Christmases DVD Review

2 December 2009 7:18 AM, PST | Collider.com | See recent Collider.com news »

Pop quiz: what’s big, bloated and rapidly losing comic edge? If you guessed Vince Vaughn, you’re close. But instead of ripping on Vaughn, the man, let’s pick on his films: a steady stream of increasingly mediocre “comedies” of which Four Christmases falls perfectly in line. Gone are the days when Vaughn acted in smarter comic fare like Swingers and The Wedding Crashers. Now he seems perfectly willing to act in any witless big studio offering. (In fact, between this and Fred Clause, he’s basically cornered the market on non-classic holiday entertainment). The thing is Vaughn, the man, is so damn likable (well, I like him), that audiences are willing to fork over big money for these movies. Maybe Vaughn signs on board these lukewarm scripts because he believes he can save them with his improvisational comic riffs. Unfortunately, not even his skill at that can save this Christmas. »

iTunes Review: Land of the Lost

29 November 2009 9:12 AM, PST | HeyUGuys.co.uk | See recent HeyUGuys news »

Land of the Lost is the latest movie to be gifted to us by NBC Universal. The movie stars Will Ferrell, Anna Friel, Danny McBride and John Boylan and is directed by Brad Silberling. Ok, so where do I start with this one. I guess I begin by telling you that I’m not the biggest Will Ferrell fan in the world so this review may, in part be influenced by that fact. That said, I have found him very funny in The Anchorman and Wedding Crashers.

Land of the Lost is about Dr. Rick Marshall (Ferrell), a ridiculed physicist who, after inventing a device to move between alternate universes, is sucked into a space-time vortex with his assistant (Anna Friel) and a tour guide (Danny McBride). In this alternate universe, the trio make friends with a primate named Chaka (Jorma Taccone), their only ally in a world full of dinosaurs and other fantastic creatures. »

Blu-Ray Review: Tiresome ‘Four Christmases’ is Four Too Many

25 November 2009 12:02 PM, PST | HollywoodChicago.com | See recent HollywoodChicago.com news »

Chicago – How has Vince Vaughn become one of the most boring actors in America? It has little to do with his performances and everything to do with his career choices. Sure, Vaughn has pretty much made a habit out of playing the exact same guy since “Wedding Crashers”: a fast-talking, self-absorbed, overgrown adolescent whose funniest quips are delivered under the breath and between punch-lines. Since you’re never sure what will come out of his mouth next, he’s consistently entertaining to watch, but the vehicles he chooses have become increasingly uninspired.

Blu-Ray Rating: 1.5/5.0

Four Christmases” is a particularly obnoxious holiday offering, primarily because its filmmakers are convinced that they’ve created something that people can relate to. The film centers on a couple who routinely make up excuses to avoid spending the holidays with family. But when they enter the airport on their way to Fiji (foreshadowing Vaughn »

Get ready for Frat Boy

20 November 2009 12:51 AM, PST | TotalFilm | See recent TotalFilm news »

Warner Brothers has brought Wedding Crashers director David Dobkin aboard its new comedy Frat Boy. The high (or should that be low brow?) concept pitch sees a baby abandoned on the steps of a frat house on an American campus and ends up being raised by the various members of the fraternity until he's old enough to go out into the world. According to Pajiba's source, the film is described as "think Tommy Boy meets Old School." Do we have to? Given that Dobkin's guy-centric hits (well Crashes was a hit, while Fred Claus...

Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo Reunite For Another Vacation

19 November 2009 6:32 PM, PST | Slash Film | See recent Slash Film news »

Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo will be reprising their roles as Clark and Ellen Griswold from the National Lampoon's Vacation movies, but not for another big screen sequel (not yet, at least...). You might recall that last month we told you that New Line/Warner Bros had signed Wedding Crashers and Fred Claus director David Dobkin to produce and possibly direct a new film in the National Lampoon's Vacation series which would follow Rusty Griswold, the son of Clark Griswold, who is now a father in his own right and takes his family on a, you guessed it, road trip vacation. Although New Line/WB hopes to sign Chase and D’Angelo to return as grandparents in the new film, no deals are in place. So if not the big screen, when, where and why? Details after the jump. The Griswolds will be reuniting insead for an advertising campaign to »

Will Ferrell Is Hollywood's Most Overpaid Actor

19 November 2009 11:41 AM, PST | cinemablend.com | See recent Cinema Blend news »

Just five years ago, The Frat Pack brought back the R-rated comedy and were the kings of mainstream comedy. Movies like Old School, Anchorman, and Wedding Crashers killed at the box office, and the biggest cog in the machinewas SNL-alum Will Ferrell. Since then, the group kind of petered out, with Judd Apatow's gang taking the reins, and while Ferrell has continued to have big hits (both Step Brothers and Blades of Glory made more than $100 million), his price tag is not worth what it used to be. Forbes has printed a list of Hollywood's most overpaid actors, using a salary to returns ratio, and have determined that Ferrell tops the list, drawing only $3.29 for each dollar he was paid. His statistics were most harmed by the performance of both Semi-Pro and this past summer's Land of the Lost, neither of which earned more than $50 million. Second on »

Five Actresses Who Should Play the Black Cat in Spider-Man 4, And Three Who Shouldn’t

18 November 2009 9:48 AM, PST | FilmSchoolRejects.com | See recent FilmSchoolRejects news »

If you read a lot of movie blogs, chances are that you've seen plenty of suggestions about this week's top rumor, the question of who should play The Black Cat in Spider-Man 4. You can throw all of those suggestions out the window. Because as you know, it isn't worth reading until we weigh in on the topic. And with that, I would like to suggest our own list of ladies who should be wearing tight outfits and sneaking into NYC banks. Initially the rumor was that Wedding Crashers starlet Rachel McAdams would be slipping on a tight cat burglar outfit and playing Felicia Hardy -- the noble, sweet and oh-so-dangerous villainess who once captured the heart of Spider-man. But that was squashed as an "internet rumor." As well, there has also been word that Julia Stiles has read for the part. But nothing is certain for director Sam Raimi, as »

Anna Faris in talks for the upcoming romantic comedy ‘Wedding Banned’

18 November 2009 5:02 AM, PST | ReelLoop.com | See recent Reel Loop news »

The hilarious and shockingly hot Anna Faris is in talks to play the daughter of Robin Williams’ character in the upcoming rom-com Wedding Banned.

Wedding Banned centers on a “long-divorced couple who kidnap their daughter (Faris) on her wedding day to prevent her from making the same mistakes they did. The parents rekindle their relationship as they elude cops and the angry groom.”

Williams is currently the only name attached with no word on who will play the mother.

The project is based on the script from Jack Amiel and Michael Begler and will be produced by David Hoberman, Todd Lieberman, Nicole Rocklin and Blye Faust.

Wedding Banned is currently missing a director.
