Good for the time

I remember Jet Set Willy quite vividly, it really left an impression as a superior game at the time. I had it for the Spectrum ZX81 when I was about 8 years old and something about the idea of a high society type, or a 'yuppie' / 'Jet Setter' being the main character stuck with me. Very much a product of it's time, you can hardly say the game-play still stands-up when there's games like GTA and Halo out there. This one had a special something about it lacking in modern games however, character I suppose. Plus the monsters freaked me out, and the front cover of the game's cassette box (yes, it was a tape cassette) was just brutal.

Worth downloading a Spectrum emulator and having a whirl.

Mis-spent youth

As a young lad I was hopelessly hooked on this game at the time. It was fiendishly hard, I used to try and have some game time on many occasion. In the short time between me coming home from school, and my father coming home from work and booting me off the computer.

The music was on a short loop but was still good for the time and fitting for the theme of the game. The layout of the game was very cleverly thought out and the rooms where interesting and varied.

I personally found a strong urge, to not so much collect the items scattered around the house as the instructions suggested. But rather move from room to room exploring miner Willy's entire mansion seeing what new and strange places are out there.

Gameplay over graphics wins every time for me.
