Most (and least) watched shows of fall -- Updated

27 December 2011 1:30 PM, PST | EW - Inside TV | See recent EW.com - Inside TV news »

Now that we’re in rerun hell, it’s high time to take stock of what we liked (and loathed) from September to December. Below is a list of every network show and how many viewers each one averaged.

While these numbers aren’t a key piece of the puzzle for the broadcast nets when they are setting ad rates and deciding whether to renew a series, they definitely help to tell a story of a program’s true popularity.*

1. NCIS (CBS, 21.4 million)

2. Sunday NFL Football (NBC, 19.9)

3. Two and a Half Men (CBS, 18.9)

TV ratings: 'Chuck' improves slightly, CBS wins a quiet Friday

24 December 2011 9:05 AM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Fast National ratings for Friday, Dec. 23, 2011

Friday night was, as you might expect of a Friday right before Christmas, rather uneventful in the Nielsen ratings. "Chuck" was the only original scripted program on broadcast TV, and it was up a tick over last week.

CBS also improved some on its numbers from a week ago, leading the night with 6.7 million viewers and a 4.4 rating/8 share in households. ABC (4.2 million, 2.4/4) finished second, beating out NBC's 3.15 million viewers and 2.0/4. Fox (1.9 million, 1.3/2) held off The CW (1.4 million, 0.8/2) for fourth place.

Thanks to a batch of holiday specials, ABC led the adults 18-49 demographic with a 1.1 rating, edging out CBS' 1.0 and NBC's 0.9. Fox drew a 0.6 and The CW a 0.4.

Friday hour by hour:

8 p.m.

CBS: "A Gifted Man" rerun (5.6 million viewers, 3.8/7 households)

ABC: Specials - "Shrek the Halls" (5.1 million, 2.8/5)/"Phineas and Ferb Christmas" (3.7 million, 1.9/4)

NBC: "Chuck" (3.4 million, 2.1/4)

Fox: "Kitchen Nightmares" rerun (2.4 million, 1.6/3)

The CW: Special - "Olive, »

"When you have a really good show, there's a sense of excitement," Anjelica Huston says in this new NBC extended preview video for "Smash" (premieres Mon. Feb. 6, p.m. 10 Et on NBC). "In this show, I wanna get up and dance!"

Huston plays a Broadway producer on the highly anticipated hour-long musical drama series, which come from former producers and directors behind "Chicago," "Hairspray," "Spring Awakening," "American Idiot" and executive producer Steven Spielberg.

"I've had this idea for quite a few years," Spielberg says in the video. "I'm really interested in what happens backstage ... For me, it's a complete mystery how they do it in theater."

"Smash" centers around the inception of a Broadway musical about Marilyn Monroe, a hot topic in Hollywood these days with the recent film release of "My Week With Marilyn," starring Michelle Williams.

A Gifted Man Moves; Amazing Race, Undercover Boss Return

18 December 2011 6:41 PM, PST | TVSeriesFinale.com | See recent TVSeriesFinale news »

CBS has announced some schedule changes for mid-season, as well as the premiere of the 20th edition of The Amazing Race.

Undercover Boss returns for its third season on Sunday, January 15th at 8pm. It'll move to Fridays at 8pm beginning February 17th, making way for the 20th cycle premiere of The Amazing Race on Sunday, February 19th.

When Boss comes to Fridays on the 17th, A Gifted Man will move to 9pm. The network has only ordered 16 installments of Patrick Wilson's low-rated series and they'll be used up by March. Unless the ratings improve, it looks like a sure thing that the show will be cancelled after that.

On March 30th, Undercover Boss will shift to Fridays at 8pm and CSI: New York will take back its usual 9pm timeslot. The rest of the Friday and Sunday night schedules »

TV Ratings: 'Chuck' slips, but 'Grimm' helps NBC to demo win

17 December 2011 9:03 AM, PST | Zap2It - From Inside the Box | See recent Zap2It - From Inside the Box news »

Fast national ratings for Friday, Dec. 16, 2011

Even in reruns, CBS remains powerful on Friday nights. The Eye continued its reign this week, on a slow Friday with few remarkable changes. "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" didn't suffer (or profit) from announcing its cancelation this week -- it remained steady. Meanwhile, on NBC, "Chuck" was down half a million viewers and "Grimm" continued its successful streak.

CBS scored just a smidge over 6 million viewers with a 4.0 rating/7 share in households. Thanks to a boost from "Grimm," NBC followed (4.8 million, 3.1/5) with ABC not far behind (4.5 million, 3.0/5). Fox drew 3.1 million viewers (1.8/3) and The CW 1.2 million (0.8/1).

In the 18-49 demographic, NBC got a nice boost from "Grimm" and "Dateline," leading the pack with 1.2. It was followed by ABC (1.1), Fox (1.0), CBS (0.9), and The CW (0.4).

Friday ratings hour-by-hour:

8 p.m.:

CBS: "A Gifted Man" rerun (5.1 million viewers, 3.5/6)

ABC: "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" (4.7 million, 3.0/5)

NBC: "Chuck" (3.2 million, »
