Saw this fun little film last night and it was truly a pleasant way to spend eight minutes of your time ( In fact it will probably take longer to write this review! ) . The lovely Claire Goose is one of 4 characters in this seemingly extended sketch . Some fine adult orientated dialogue kicks off proceedings , with Claire Goose acting perfectly lovestruck and drippy . The whole 8 minutes is well worth a look ,and in such a short length of time the attitude of all the pretty young things comes through , pleasant performances from pretty people and an interesting twist . A great interlude and all who took part deserve some credit

Effective Short Film

Three people sit around a dinner table and right away the audience jump to the wrong conclusion as to who is who and how they all fit into each other's lives . one of the characters then decides she's not been getting enough sex and decides to do something about it but sex like love and career never EVER goes according to plan
Ruth Coulson's short film is a good enough example to show how to make an effective short . Despite lasting only eight minutes it contains enough twists and turns to keep the audience amused and contains some bitterly salty dialogue . Let's be honest the jibe about Hampstead Heath while not being politically correct does sound like the sort of thing a sexually frustrated heterosexual woman might say to a gay friend . It's also good to see a short film containing at least one actress ( Claire Goose ) the audience might recognise

An OK short but neither funny enough, sharp enough or clever enough to satisfy or stick in the mind

Cheryl and James are round with their friend Jenny's house on a Friday night for a dinner party get together as friends. However all Jenny can do is bang on about her new boyfriend Ben and how happy they are. Eventually the terminal single Cheryl cracks and declares her depression and desperate need for a shag. They try to comfort her but when James says she could have any man she wants Cheryl storms out onto the street to prove him right or wrong. Walking up to a guy near the house she asks for sex, he says yes and off they go.
This film opens with a nice bit of energy; it looks colourful and youthful with plenty of warmth to it and a sort of rough humour to the characters. From the start it seems to be setting out its stall as some sort of comedy before gradually getting around to perhaps being a bit darker on the nature of modern relationships. The problem is that the funny parts are not really funny and are actually pretty obvious while the "twist" itself can be seen from before you even start watching the film and the stuff it could have done with the theme of modern relationship is not really done it isn't clever or sharp enough material-wise to cover up for the unfunny attempts at a breezy, fun film. It still has enough about it to be slightly enjoyable though but just don't expect for it to satisfy you at the end or to stick in your memory for longer than the short running time.
The cast are good though and they support the fresh, youthful pace that it has to it. None of them give great performances but they seem to have bought into the mood and, even if it isn't funny, they seem to have been able to inject energy into it. The direction is good (although the point of the cat's pov thing escaped me)but the material just isn't strong enough to make this more than an OK short being either funnier or darker would have vastly improved it.
