An average TV film which might appeal to some

Presented on Antena 3TV, a private TV company in Spain, this film is more or less standard fodder for this type of production. The premises are more or less acceptable and some of the performances are not bad, most notably, of course, that of Aitana Sánchez-Gijón. However, the whole does tend to be somewhat limited in concept, so tied it is to the uniformed style so inherent in TV films, so strictly observed, as if it had been made for USA consumption rather than home consumption.

The film opens in Macedonia, part of ex-Yugoslavia. Some soldiers are playing cards. But things get out of control and a local peasant woman is shot. Years later, back in Spain, one of them wants his revenge for having been sold as the culprit. Ms. Sánchez-Gijón is the police-detective involved in following up the trail of crime.

In approximately 90 minutes run-time the film evolves to set patterns, not without some interesting denouéments, such as how TV news programmes manipulate headline news in the interests of politicians. However, as to the rest, well, you have seen it before, except that in this case the taste is definitely Spanish, which, to many, will be somewhat exotic, I suppose.
