The end of your troubles.

Number 19 is the final film in the Troublesome Night movie series. Series regulars Lan Law, Simon Lui, Tong Kai Fai, Ronnie Cheung, Anita Chan, Oni Tsuka and Mr. Nine all return once more to close the chapter in the longest running ghost movie trilogy (that I can recall) from Hong Kong. As the last film, it's really nothing much to rave about - Anita's character, Hok, finds a pair of diamond-clad sunglasses on the beach and takes it. Once she puts it on, she witnesses a scene where a girl was being chased by a knife-yielding madman. So, the entire gang, at the urging of Bud Lung (Lan Law), go back to the beach area to investigate.

The ghost theme, naturally, doesn't take center stage, but the partying, women-wooing and more partying scenes do. Those elements have really gotten too old to even be relevant - just a bunch of boring fillers. The sunglasses plot angle was a nice touch, but too bad it wasn't emphasized enough. There were some freaky moments here and there too - could have used more of them.

Lan Law wasn't in the movie enough, Anita Chan sounded very whiny the whole time, Simon Lui really didn't do anything important, and the woman playing the ghost kept repeating the same sentence over and over ("why do you treat me like this"?). And, the random appearance and disappearance of this girl who thinks she's hot (Kong Sau Yum) distracted from the plot and was just unnecessary.

It's mind as well that was the last film in the trilogy, as the filmmakers' well of ideas have run dry.
