I'm a bit prejudiced because I'm actually in this movie (the African-American fellow with glasses who talks about his white teacher and in a couple of other scenes-and the Martin Luther King speeches are from my personal collection), but since nobody else reviewed it, here goes.
About 40 people of a variety of ages and races from Charleston, SC spend the Summer (July 1999 was when it was filmed) on a bus going through the Deep South getting to know people who were involved in lesser-known stories from the Civil Rights movement. These experienced lead to some interesting insight and discussions among the travelers.
There are a few powerful moments in the film, especially when survivors of the 1965 beatings at the Selma bridge and the 1963 Birmingham bombings speak. A number of the elderly interviewees have since died, which makes this film even more important for preserving some otherwise lost stories.
Today, I show this film every year to the students in my history classes and they appreciate the human faces placed on such seldom-discussed events such the Orangeburg Massacre and the Clarendon County (South Carolina) school integration battle. Great for teachers and history buffs.
