Storyline

Relationships rule our lives, whether we're in one and trying to get out, out of one and trying to get in, or in one and just trying to hang on. Commitment may be the hardest thing to pledge, but a one-night-stand can no longer be just harmless fun. Are love and fidelity out of fashion? See what happens when a group of friends have a weekend away in the country. The West Wittering affair is the moment of truth for 4 uptight 30 something London professionals, which propels their chaotic love lives on an emotional roller-coaster in this romantic sex-comedy of errors. MTV style soap opera
4 August 2008 | by (United States) – See all my reviews

This film is like a condensed version of MTV's Real World. The plot involves a woman (Cath) who rents a place in the country for a weekend for a romantic tryst with a man (Jamie) she's dated a couple of times. Unfortunately, she invites her best friend Natasha, who is having relationship troubles with her boyfriend, Greg. Jamie sleeps with both women, and massive fall out ensues, especially with Greg, who wants revenge. Flash-forward two and a half years to dramatic but predictable partner swaps and familial changes. But all is not as it should be in soap opera la la land. More melodrama follows before the sappy, unlikely yet still boringly predictable ending.

There is zero in the way of character development in this movie, and the plot careens from one soap opera cliché to the next. Rather than bother with these elements, which the director seems have considered unimportant, folksy pop songs are played over the sound track to indicate what type of emotion the viewer is supposed to feel. The film strains to be funny, but fails every time, mainly because each joke in it has been done by many, much better, films. Basically, this is a low budget soap opera with a "reality" TV feel and a few editing tricks. If that's your thing, go for it, but don't expect much from this affair.
