Not brilliant, neither unimportant!
25 July 2004 | by (Netherlands) – See all my reviews

Although this movie might not be the most brilliant movie we have ever seen, the importance of the matter must be taken into account when rating this work.

If only few people are shown what the Taliban are really like, and how they structurally act against everything about human rights we believe in; taking not only the freedom but also the dignity and even the lives of women, Christians, homosexuals and Jews, this movie is more than worth it's recognition. Not because it entertains, but because it warns and keeps us awake.

Having said that however, there are a couple of things that annoyed me. For one thing the mediocre performance by Lisa Christie, but more importantly the fact that the judge was a very shallow, evil character which didn't add to his credibility. In the "real" story this movie is based on, he must have been somebody who is just trying to do his job well.

I think this movie should be considered as an important warning and a wake-up call, and not as an attack at the U.S. legal system.
