And he'll be needing a big crew if he wants his dream to become a reality. Koby also has a dream, and that's becoming a marine so he could capture ruthless pirates like Lady Alvida. Luffy understands Koby's dream pretty well, and will make sure that he'll become a marine. So they head for Naval Base Island, which is where the infamous pirate hunter: Roronoa Zoro is being held at. Luffy knows that Zoro will be perfect for his first mate of his crew. But Koby thinks that Luffy isn't thinking right, as Zoro is famous for hunting down and killing pirates with his sword abilities. They went to the Marine Base where Zoro is being held at. Luffy offers him a chance to escape, but Zoro isn't interested as he only has 10 more days till they release him from his 1 month sentence. Later Luffy and Koby found out from the marine captain's son: Helmeppo, that Zoro will be executed tomorrow. Luffy got mad that he punched Helmeppo in the face, which made him angry and is going to report this back to his father. Luffy and Koby were met by a little girl(who offered Zorro 2 rice cakes, but Helmeppo ate, spitted it out, and stomp on the other one). The only reason that Zoro was imprisoned is because he punched Helmeppo in the face and was put under dubious charges. This proves that Zoro is indeed innocent. So they head back to the Marine Base to free Zoro and deal with Helmeppo's father: Captain Morgan.

23 February 2000

Usopp told them to stop as it's just making Kuro more ticked off than he was before. He gave them orders to protect/guide Kaya out of the battle. They obeyed and guided Kaya out of here (to repay their doubts on thinking their captain was lying about the pirates attacking for real). Jango followed them, while Zoro is busy with the "hypnotized" Buchi. After Zoro finally defeated Buchi, he took the unconscious Usopp to catch up to where Jango, Kaya, and the three kids are. Luffy keeps Kuro busy by pulling off a fight against him. Only to discover that Kuro isn't as easy of an opponent to defeat with his stealth foot step technique. We soon learn about how Kuro avoided his execution by the Marines. As he got Jango to hypnotize a decoy into thinking he's Kuro and the Marines took the fake and executed him. While Kuro laid a low profile by going by the name of Klahadore. And gave Jango the role of captain of the Black Cat Pirates. And after 3 years of portraying as a simple minded caretaker, he wants more than to return as "Captain Kuro". Will Luffy be able to defeat him? And will Zoro & Usopp be able to catch up before Jango kills Kaya and the kids?

Season 1, Episode 18: Anta ga chunjuu! Gaimon to kimyou na nakama

15 March 2000
After Usopp joined our heroes journey, they set sail on "Going Merry" across the ocean. Luffy designs the crew's own pirate flag, since they now own a pirate ship. His design was rather sloppy, so Usopp(who happens to be good at painting) re-did it into a more professional look. They now have their own pirate flag logo: A Skull with a straw hat. Since they're the "Straw Hat Pirates". Nami sees an island up ahead, which is called "Legendary Treasure Island". Many pirates visited the island, but never found the treasure. They say that a Guardian God protects the island from those who try to steal it. When they went ashore on the island, it all seemed quiet right until they're surrounded by mixed up animals. More weirded out than before, the voice of the so called Guardian God was heard. Only when Luffy discovered that it's actually a bush-haired boxed man who's been marooned on the island for 20 years. His name is Gaiman, and he was once a regular crew member of a pirate crew who came to this island, 20 years ago. Only to find a empty box. Is holding him with his grasp. And tells him that money won't repay the hard work he's put himself through in making that soup. Patty, a buff cook came out from the men's room saw what Sanji is doing and tries to stop him. Then Zeff and Luffy came falling through the ceiling and landed on the floor. Zeff sorted this out, as Sanji's had a long history in fighting with costumers who criticize his cooking. A group of chef had to take hold of Sanji as he's not done with Iron Fist. Zeff also disliked the way Iron Fist has criticize the way he acted. And for that, Iron Fist made a run for it, scared and fragile. A Marine Gunman appeared and informed Fullbody that their prison(who works for a pirate crew) has escaped and took out several of their men. They disappeared, and the prisoner appeared. He sits down and expects a meal after being force to starve during his imprisonment. Patty refused to serve the prisoner any meals as the guy has no money to pay it. Patty threw the guy out as he doesn't take any orders from freeloaders. Sanji went out at the dock and gave the starved individual a meal and drink. He was thankful that Sanji is giving it to him for free of charge. Luffy saw the whole thing and figures that Sanji is perfect for the ship's chef he's been looking for. But Sanji refused the offer, while Luffy refuses Sanji to deny the offer. Then Gin(the starved prisoner) buts in, and told Sanji that he's very thankful for the food. Sanji feels pleased that someone appreciates his cooking. Gin learns that Luffy is a pirate and has a goal in finding the One Piece treasure. Gin informs Luffy not to go to the Grand Line, as he's still young and still developing his pirate crew. Luffy asked if Gin knows more about the Grand Line. But he doesn't know much about it, just rumors about it being a hellish place for pirates to visit. Gin set sail on his boat and told Luffy he won't stop him from going to the Grand Line, as they're strangers from now on. Zeff saw the whole thing and ordered both Sanji and Luffy to get to work. Luffy is now stuck as a chore boy, but does a horrible job in attending the kitchen, so the chefs told him to take orders from the customers. Sanji told Gin that he's worth killing more than Zeff is. As Sanji find Zeff to be acting pathetic than he normally is. Pearl got up and gave Sanji a beating of a lifetime for pay back on the nose bleed. This made Sanji remember the day he first met Zeff. Back when he was a boy chef who doesn't know the importance of not waisting food. He worked on a voyage ship with a few other chefs. He lechers that his dream is to find the Big Blue, which has all 4 corners of the ocean. But his friend explained to him that that's just a daydream that all chefs think of. One day their voyage ship was attacked by a group of pirates lead by Red Leg Zeff(back when he had both legs and still a pirate). Sanji didn't want them to get away with it, so he tried to fight them off, but it was no good. Then a wave came to wash Sanji off of the boat. Zeff went to save him, but his right foot got stuck. So he had to cut it off in order to save Sanji from drowning. Then they end up on a desert rock isle. Sanji kept blaming Zeff for this mess. But Zeff didn't care and told Sanji to go on the other side of the island to keep an eye out for any rescue ship. He was given five days worth of food. And he can't steal any of Zeff's portion. After several days and nights of no sign of any ship, both Sanji & Zeff start to starve to death. This gave Zeff an idea on starting a business in a restaurant that would travel out in sea so that way no one would ever starve with hunger in the open sea again. After that experience, Sanji is hoping to repay Zeff somehow for the leg he lost in order to save him.

Luffy, Sanji, and Yosaku made a crash landing in the plains of the island. Zoro(who got ran over by their boat) tells them that he needs to go rescue Usopp from the mermen. Only when Johnny came by all depressed and told them that Usopp has been killed by Nami. Either one of them, including Luffy couldn't believe it. Luffy declined that it's a lie, but Johnny wished that was true. Then Nami comes by and just told them all solemnly that the only reason she was with Luffy was for the money and nothing more. Sanji admired the way Nami acted serious, but Zoro corrects him that he has no idea what is going on. Nami told them to leave the island and don't get involved with the mermen in anyway. Because they'll get killed by the mermen if they were to go up against them. Luffy, however laid on the road and said he's not going anywhere. Nami got mad and told them all that she won't care what the mermen will do to them. And ran off without any other word. Johnny & Yosaku took her advice wisely and told Zoro that they've done their job in bring the "Starw Hat Pirates" to this island. And won't get killed by a crew of mermen. In the distance, the 77th Marine fleet lead by General Purin Purin are planning to rescue the Cocoyashi villagers from Arlong's rule. But Arlong didn't allow that to happen and sent out 3 of his strongest mermen to destroy the marine ship. After it was destroyed Nojiko, Gen, and the other locals find it impossible to escape the wrath of Arlong. Arlong plans to use the map he got from Nami to locate a possible treasure on the island. As Nami and his deal was back 8 years ago, that she'd be their navigator on maps and locations. Meanwhile Nojiko finds Nami breaking things in their childhood home. Nojiko told her that she met her friends. And found out that she enjoyed being with them. Becuase Nojiko knows the her foster sister hasn't been happy in all these years. Nami expresses that when she was with Luffy, she completely forgot about what her promise was. And after the adventures she had with him, she now doesn't know what to do. Sanji and Zoro argue about whether it's real necessary to stay on the island for nothing. Then out in the distance a Usopp was running. And he's more alive then they imagined. He told them that Nami saved his life from being killed by Arlong. And she had to pierce her hand to make it look like she stabbed him. And believes that there's a reason why she joined the mermen crew if she's not really that cruel. Nojiko found them and is about to tell them the story on why Nami did it in the first place. Luffy however won't bother to learn about Nami's past and Zoro went for a nap, as he doesn't think it'll change their minds in leaving the island. But Sanji and Usopp remained interested in the story on why Nami betrayed her family and home for Mermen.

Season 1, Episode 36: Survive! Bellemere, the Mother and Nami's Family!

9 August 2000
Bellemere was cooking a meal for her foster daughters. But when Arlong enters the home it appeared to be empty. Then Bellemere surprises him with a marine rifle directly into his mouth. Nami and Nojiko ran towards their home, only to be stop by the town doctor who tells them that they need to escape while they can, before Arlong discovers them to be the foster daughters of Bellemere. Bellemere thinks she has the whole thing taken care of only when Arlong bite and damaged the barrel of the gun. Then he continuously stomp on Bellemere's arm demanding her to pay for her soul. Arlong presumed that a family lived in this home. But one of his mermen looked at the stolen town records that Bellemere was never married or had any children. Gen came to tell them that she lives by herself and will pay the fine. Arlong leaved only when Bellemere announced that she has 2 foster children. And will use her money for their lives instead of hers. Nami and Nojiko came running towards her and begged her not to do it. But she's made up her mind and she doesn't want her only family to be killed at all. She told them to live on and stay strong. Nami didn't want her to die, not when she's yet to make her map of the world. Bellemere told her that that's her goal to fulfill. Arlong now knows the whole truth and will gladly kill Bellemere instead. Gen tries to stop him, but got injured by one of the mermen. Then all of Cocoyashi's locals came in a rampage to stop them from harming Bellemere. Arlong told his crew to fight them off but not to kill. He'll kill Bellemere as an example to those who don't have money. Her last words to Nojiko and Nami were "I love you". And she was shot by Arlong in front of their eyes. All the villagers were feeling guilty for not saving a friend of theirs. Arlong felt great after killing Bellemere told them all that, that's a prime example to those who refuse to pay their monthly fees. The crew found Nami's drawn map in Bellemere's back pocket. Nami told her to give it back. Which made Arlong amazed that a girl like Nami can draw up a map that good. So he takes Nami with them by force as she'll be useful to them. Gen tried to stop them but he was in no condition to fight at all. The once peaceful town was trashed and all the boats were destroyed by the mermen. Escaping is futile and not even the marines or government can help them now. Gen, Nojiko, and the villagers were worried about what will become of Nami. Then Nami came to the village with some money in her hands. They were all glad that she was safe. But they noticed that she has some bruises and she announced that she joined them as their navigator to draw maps. They all couldn't believe it, not even Nojiko who tried to tell her that she's with the one who killed their mother. But Nami said that they'll let her live, because she's being paid for making maps. When she turned around they noticed Arlong's symbol was on her left arm. Which means she's part of their crew now. Gen couldn't bare to look at her. And told her to leave the village, and she did. Later that night Nojiko finds Nami visiting Bellemere's newly buried grave. She told Nojiko that she'll save up 100 million to buy the village back from Arlong. That way everyone of the village will be free again. She must do it on her own, and advice both Nojiko and the villagers to not help, because Arlong will know. And over the years she became a pirate thief so she can steal even more money. Nami placed all that stolen treasure in a secret spot near Bellemere's home. And will use it until she has enough. After hearing the story both Usopp and Sanji are stun by the tale. Nojiko said that she's worked so hard to receive that must money. And if the Straw Hat Pirates keep claiming to be her friend, then she'll lose loyalty to Arlong and her plan will be ruined. Which is why they shouldn't interfere at all. It's too much for a girl to be working for the one who killed her own foster mother. In the bushes Johnny and Yosaku, who didn't left the island heard the whole thing and felt terrible for what they've said about Nami. Nami got up from her seat at Bellemere's house and mentions that she only need 7 million to buy back the village. But will her 8 year plan succeed?

Nami remembered 8 years ago, when Arlong noticed her being depressed. And to make it worth her while, he made a deal with her, that if she saved up 100 million. Then he'll give her back Cocoyashi's village. He doesn't care how long it takes, as long as she's still loyal to him. She then sees Gen guided by Commander Nezumi of the Marine's 16th fleet. He knows that Nami has stolen a great amount of pirate treasure. And his marine buddies are here to confiscate it for the government. Nami tries to fight them off as they search for it in the orange orchard. She couldn't believe that the Marines would be more interested in money than the lives of the island's locals. Nesumi guessed correctly that the amount was 100 million. And Nami already knew that Arlong told him about their deal. Nami was about to get shout by Nesumi as she was running. When Gen and Nojiko stopped her any further. Nojiko got shot in the shoulder, and the marines uncovered the money that Nami worked so hard on. And since then they waited till Nami has saved enough. They had to take Nojiko to the town doctor. While Nami felt bad that her foster sister had to get the shot instead of her. Luffy found her and was glad to see her, but Nami was still angry that Luffy didn't bother to leave the island when he was told to. She ran towards Arlong Park, to have a word with Arlong. She knows that he broke their promise, but Arlong acted as if he didn't know what was going on. And told her that if the Marines have her money then she'll have to save it all up again. She got even more mad and left. While she's gone, Arlong tells his crew that he tends to keep her with their crew a lot longer, and won't be off his back till she makes maps of the entire world. Gen tells all the villagers what had happened and they decide that now is the time to fight them off. Nami refused for any of them to fight when they know it's suicidal. She remembered that he never lets anyone touch his hat at all. And knows he's up to something. The villagers came to the front of Arlong Park but Johnny and Yasuko were blocking the way. Arlong corrected him that it's their nationalities. As he uses his shark bite attacks on Luffy, he monologues that they were put on this plant with their own differences. And since then Arlong believes that Mermen deserve to be the dominate creatures on the plant, because of what they could do and what humans can't do. He finds Luffy to be a lousy captain and can't even swim making him weak. Luffy didn't care if his teeth can crush stone, because he can do the same with his fists. And having friends on his side makes him powerful than he is. He grabbed Johnny and Yasuko's swords and swing them around. Arlong thinks he's toying with him and broke the swords with his teeth. But it was a distraction as Luffy knocked Arlong out with his punch. Then Arlong's teeth broke, thinking he'll be useless with out them. But he grew a new set of teeth which surprised everyone who's watching the fight. Arlong says that mermen can grow their teeth back like sharks can do. Every new set of teeth becomes stronger than the previous one. So he took 2 pairs of teeth out and shows off his Shark Gum attack. Luffy dodges all the attacks, got one of Arlong's teeth and uses it as false teeth. But it'll take more than Merman teeth to win this fight. As it soon became brutal and murderous. Everytime, Luffy thinks he beaten Arlong, he'd just come back up. Arlong dives into the water to regain some energy for his Shark on a Dart attack, which makes him shoot out of the water like a torpedo. Sanji, Usopp, Johnny, Yosaku and the Villagers try to tell Luffy to go hide. But he remained where he is, and shows off his net attack that prevented Arlong from piercing him. Season 1, Episode 43: The End of the Merman Empire! Nami Is My Nakama!

27 September 2000
After saying that Nami is his Navigator. Arlong thinks he's joking, because a navigator like Nami doesn't deserve to be with a pirate like Luffy. He claims that Nami enjoys being with him and his crew. Luffy found a pen that was dropped from a desk. It had blood stains on it. He already knows that Nami was forced to draw maps. Luffy then hold on to the blade of the Saw Sword, which prevented Arlong to move it. It broke, and Luffy tells him that there was no way Nami could of been happy while working for the mermen in the first place. He starts to wreck the room, throw out the desk, and the maps. Everyone outside were clue less on what is happening up there. Nami however had flashbacks of the day Arlong gave her, her own room to draw maps for them. And the times she was beaten up for not drawing actual maps. This made her cry with tears of joy, as Luffy's doing all this for her. Arlong got a hold of Luffy, and is tick off that he destroyed 8 years worth of work. He goes on that Nami will continue to make him maps, so that way he can take over the East blue, as well as the rest of the world. To fulfill the mermen desire in being superior species. Luffy was tired of hearing how great Arlong thinks his nationality is. So he bent his nose, and gave out a stretching high kick to finish this fight. His foot came down, and the whole place started to collapse. Everyone had to evacuate, because of the building crumbling down. Sanji, Nojiko, and Gen had to dive into the water to save themselves. After the smoke cleared, Arlong Park was in ruins. No one was sure on who won the fight. Nami was worried about Luffy. Then someone came out of the wreckage, it was Luffy. And he shout out to Nami's name that she's his friend. Nami was glad to see him alive, and gave a smile for the first time in awhile. Then everyone cheered that Arlong is finally defeated. Johnny and Yasuko cried with joy, and the villagers honored Luffy as their island's hero. Nami gave him his straw hat back, and this time they're officially friends. Then Nesumi of the 16th fleet has come to tell them all that he'll take Arlong's place on the island. And all the riches go to the Marines immediately. But Zoro grabbed him, and told him not to interrupt when people are about to celebrate. He beat Nezumi up and the marines, then Nami told him to keep out of this island, leave Arlong's riches to the villagers, and she wants the money they took from her earlier. Then she hit him hard with her Bo staff, for shooting Nojiko in the shoulder. Nojiko was satisfied that the Marine Commander got what he deserved. Nezumi however didn't took any of this abuse on him likely, and will report this to HQ. All the Cocoyashi Villagers decided to inform everyone else on the island about Arlong's defeat. Luffy, Sanji, Usopp, Zoro, and Nami all laughed on what had happened recently. The Straw Hat Pirates are now made up of 5(including Nami and Sanji). Meanwhile Nezumi sends a snail radio report on Luffy and his crew. And demands there to be a bounty placed on him. This will make Luffy infamous as the pirate he is now.

Season 1, Episode 45: Bounty! Straw-hat Luffy Becomes World Famous!

25 October 2000
On board the Going Merry ship, Nami paid the Newspaper Delivery Seagull. And complained how expensive reading the daily news is. A flier came falling out of the paper, which is a wanted paper with Luffy's face on it(Special thanks to Commander Nezumi for filing the report). Luffy finds it great that he's becoming more well known. Sanji was disappointed that he's not in the picture. While Usopp feels worthy because his head is in the background. Meanwhile the government has been discussing how tough Monkey D. Luffy is. After reports of him defeating Captain "Axe Hand" Morgan, Buggy the Clown, Don Krieg, and Arlong. For that they issued his bounty to be worth 30,000,000. More than any current bounty on any pirate. Marines and Bountyhunters alike are aware of Luffy's reputation as a pirate. The flier was soon posted everywhere, Meri showed Kaya the news. She noticed Usopp's head in the background, and is proud that he's fulfilling his dream. While she's continuing in becoming a doctor. The Kuroneko Pirates heard the news and Captain Kuro still hasn't forgotten his last encounter with Luffy. At the Naval Base Island, we find Coby and Helmeppo sweeping the floor. Coby was excited to find out that his friend is already pursuing his dream in becoming a pirate. A marine official shows the imprisoned Morgan the wanted sign, which made him twitch with anger. At the Baratie, the wanted sign is posted in the restaurant. Zeff and the chef crew cooked and prepared the meals. Zeff remembered Sanji's dream in finding the All Blue. And knows he'll succeed as a cook. On a shaggy boat IronFist Fullbody(same marine captain from the Baratie restaurant) has been demoted to a lower rank. He's drunk and lost his reputation with the women all thanks to Sanji. A marine official came to show him the wanted flier of Luffy. And he remembered the last time seeing him on the way to Baratie. He never suspected that he'd become a big bounty head. With 30,000,000 Belli for the reward money. Ironfist plans to take him down to gain his rank back. He orders his crew to search for Luffy, only they don't know where to head off to. And speak of the devil they past by the Going Merry. He order his crew to turn around and attack their ship. Zoro however sliced their cannon ball in half. So instead of using cannons, they attack. Ironfist thinks Luffy will be an easy target, but Luffy uses his Gomu Gomu Bell attack after he punched him in the face. Then Sanji appears, and Ironfist is afraid to see Sanji again. So he and his Marines retreated. Making it a short and worthless battle. On a deserted island, MiHawk landed there and came face to face with a pirate crew, that's settling there. He tells the captain that it's someone he knew long ago. The captain was Shanks, and he feels proud that his friend Luffy is successfully becoming a pirate. And it reveals that Shanks and MiHawk are friends as they enjoy a round of drinks. At Luffy's hometown, all the locals are bragging how great it is for someone from their town to be famous. The elder however didn't find it good news for their town to be known as a birthplace of a pirate. At Makino's Bar, the Elder sat, and Makino thinks it's good that Luffy is becoming a pirate like Shanks is. Back on the Going Merry, Nami discusses on how they should enter the Grandline. They must do it by the mountain range and not by sea. Before doing that, they'll stop off at an island with a town called: LougeTown. Which is the place where Pirate King Gold Roger was born in, and executed. Which is a place Luffy would love to check out. To see where the original holder of the One Piece once lived. But little do they know is that danger is awaiting for them there.

Season 1, Episode 46: Following the Straw Hat! Little Buggy's Big Adventure

1 November 2000
It's morning, and the Straw Hat Pirates are enjoying their breakfast. Nami remembered when she and Luffy first meet, back when they encountered Buggy the Clown. Nami asked Luffy, if he'd know what had happen to Buggy. Luffy doesn't have a slight clue, but figures he's somewhere far away. Meanwhile on an island, the clown of terror himself, Buggy has spent his time wisely on the island Luffy punched him to the last time they met. He's shorter because he lost his parts from the last time. So he is now the height of a circus midget. He built a raft, and heads off to find Luffy. But he got attacked by a bunch of piranhas. And only made it to the next island. He finds a flight less bird(same size as him). So he decides to eat it. When he has it in his grasp, a much larger bird comes by to scare Buggy off. It attempts to eat him, but he's not that good to eat. And send him flying in the air and landed on another island. The island he landed on is Legendary Treasure Island(the same one the Straw Hat Pirates went to in Episode 18). Buggy hear's the voice of the Guardian God and tells him to get off the island. The voice was in fact Gaimon(the Bush haired guy in the box). Is protecting his mixed up animal friends from poachers. He presumes Buggy is one, and tries to shoot him. They both come face to face and it becomes an unusual battle. Specially when they are both the same height. When Gaimon has his gun pointed at Buggy, Buggy told him he's not at all interested in his animals. Just a regular pirate, which made Gaimon lowered his gun and told Buggy, that he was also a pirate. They apologized to one another, and soon became friends. Later that night, Gaimon, Buggy, and the mixed up animals drank sake around an open camp fire. Gaimon told Buggy about the 20 years he spent on the island. And how he protected a treasure that wasn't there. He offered him a chance in being part of his new crew(which he's yet to accomplished). But Gaimon prefers to stay on the island to look after his animal friends. Buggy reminded Gaimon of Luffy(but referred to him as a helpful young man). While Buggy mentioned a young man he despises(but doesn't use Luffy's name). They both presume they're talking about 2 completely different people they've encountered. And throughout the night they drank. The next day, Buggy's raft was made for his departure and said goodbye to Gaimon and his animals. But he encounters a large crab which destroyed the raft. Then a ship came by and killed the giant crab. Gaimon was relieved that his friend is safe and sound. The one who saved him is a slender/attractive woman who knows he's Buggy the Clown. She shows him the wanted sign of Luffy, which made Buggy shout with anger. Buggy got acquainted with the hot woman, as they're both after the same guy. And decide to team up, and who is this mysterious woman?
