Nearly thirty years have gone by since the original MazingerZ debuted in Japan. Mazinger is without a doubt one of the most popular Anime's that inspired Mobile Suit Gundam, Robotech and another other Robo Anime's.
This OVA is perhaps the last actual original Mazinger Z piece youll see. My God is this Anime cool. The Anime is composed of about six episodes, and Mazinger is back revamped with all new look.
The characters from the series, Koji Kabuto, Sayaka, Dr. Hell, and the robots are all back.
Story deals with Mazinger now labeled "MAZINKAISER" fighting Dr. Hell again who has composed several new robots to destroy earth.
Some interesting twists add great suspense to this OVA for instance Dr. Hell now invents a parasites that can manipulate and corrupt robots as seen in the long battle scene where VENUS A the robot piloted by Sayaka, takes of and now destroys the secret laboratory with Koji. The robot now has a life of it's own.
Several great new twists and a big budget as evidence by the awesome special effects make "MAZINKAISER", a keeper. If this is the last we'll see of MAZINGERZ at least he has gone in a blaze of glory!!!
By the way, be sure to check out "GREAT MAZINGER" (Gran Mazinger in Spanish) is the second series based on "Mazinger Z" although it's not listed on IMDB it exists, definitely check it out, only 50 + episodes were produced compared to the 92 of Mazinger but it's also a classic.
