OK Korean mood piece., 7 January 2015
Author: Mozjoukine (Mozjoukine@yahoo.com.au) from Australia

Genuinely atmospheric and original Korean movie. Jang Hyun-sug (also in the interesting THE FOUL KING) is the ex-law student who runs a late night video store, visited by lone women and pan handlers. One of them writes him anonymous letters.

Among these Pan eun-jin, who they refer to as "the beautiful girl" although all the women are appealing, comes back looking for the personal tape which got mixed in with her rentals.

The plot material is secondary to the mood, the feeling of life passing without significance - empty, yellow lit streets at night which the isolated hero cycles through or him watching his tapes or making casual contact with customers, punctuated by a sunny train trip.

It goes on a fraction too long but is an agreeable surprise. Strong performances, nice handling.
