Storyline

The story of Joanna, a 14-year-old girl who feels pressured by her peers to lose her virginity. The story, told primarily from her point of view, follows her as she self-destructs, becoming involved in a world of sex, drugs and betrayal. Including graphic and sometimes violent underage sex scenes, the film portrays an occassionally exaggerated but nonetheless disturbing and thought-provoking view of teenage sexuality. Girls just want to have what?
13 December 2003 | by (Saffron Walden, UK) – See all my reviews

'Pleasureland' is a depressing look at the life of teen-aged girls in contemporary Liverpool. The plot unfolds as a simple progression through a parent's worst nightmares, and manages the near-impossible task of over-stressing the importance of peer-pressure as a motivating factor in teenage behaviour. No-one has any fun and overall, there's all the charm of a public information film. Just say no!
