Film Review: ‘On Any Sunday, The Next Chapter’

Film Review: ‘On Any Sunday, The Next Chapter’
Motorcycles of all shapes, sizes and velocities speed around the track — and, quite often, through the air — in “On Any Sunday, The Next Chapter,” director Dana Brown’s effusive valentine to two-wheeled motorized transport in all its incarnations. Taking his father Bruce Brown’s seminal 1971 motorcycle docu “On Any Sunday” as a model, the younger Brown canvases the globe from Vancouver to Vietnam as he explores motorcycling as sport, hobby, practical necessity and even a means of artistic expression. The result is, much like Brown’s superb 2003 surf docu “Step Into Liquid,” an intoxicating blend of exotic travelogue, death-defying derring-do, and affecting profiles in courage and perseverance. Brown’s pic should delight gearheads and grease monkeys of all stripes in its targeted theatrical run (on 250 screens nationwide), with a long home-viewing shelf life to come.

One of the very few sports-themed docus to earn a feature documentary Oscar nomination, the

Red Bull Media House in association with Freeride Entertainment will release motorcycle documentary On Any Sunday: The Next Chapter theatrically on November 7. Separately, Gravitas Ventures has taken VOD rights to As Night Comes.

Dana Brown of Step Into Liquid and Dust To Glory fame directed the follow-up to the 1971 Oscar-nominated On Any Sunday, directed by his father Bruce Brown.

The film profiles the top riders in the powered two-wheel space and receives its world premiere in San Sebastian.

“This is the first time a feature film from Red Bull Media House will have national theatrical distribution in the United States,” said Werner Brell, managing director of Red Bull Media House North America. “Releasing the film nationally gives us the opportunity to reach new audiences and excite those who ride, where they ride.”

Images and Info on Relativity’s Navy Seal Movie ‘Act of Valor,’ Starring Real Navy SEALs

Images and Info on Relativity’s Navy Seal Movie ‘Act of Valor,’ Starring Real Navy SEALs
The Navy SEALs got a massive PR boost when the killing of Osama Bin Laden was announced. Not that the special forces team really needed a boost, given that the SEALs are one of the most highly-regarded military teams in the world. But the boost came regardless, and one of the aftereffects is that quite a few companies want to make movies or TV about the team and the operations it undertakes. While Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal seemed to have the jump on everyone [1] with their film that has been referred to as Kill Bin Laden (not the final title [2]), it turns out that another SEALs film has already been shot, and Relativity just bought it for an early 2012 release. (Think: President's Day.) The film is called Act of Valor (once called I Am That Man) and it stars actual Navy SEALs. Some images from set and more info are after the break.

Could Navy SEALs Film Featuring Actual Active Duty Members Be The Sleeper Action Hit of The Year?

Update: Since posting, Relativity has officially acquired the film and they plan a 2012 release. After the write-up, check out the press release, which includes the first plot synopsis, at the bottom.

A few weeks ago I got an invite to see a NYC test screening with just the information of Aov and it involving someone who worked on 300. Due to not normally attending these types of screenings and having absolutely zero interest upon further examination, I turned it down. A new report on Deadline and a wealth of new details are making me rethink that decision.

The film, a “mission movie involving Navy Seals,” is titled Act of Valour (or Act of Valor on IMDb) and stars actual, active duty members of United States Navy’s sea, air and land teams, while also being backed by the military. Written by 300‘s Kurt Johnstad (300) and directed by Mike “Mouse” McCoy and
