Michael Fassbender Admits ‘Assassin’s Creed’ ‘Took Itself Too Seriously’ — Watch
Not only is Michael Fassbender one of our greatest actors, but the man knows when to admit defeat. The “Alien: Covenant” got honest about “Assassin’s Creed,” the 2016 movie based on the popular video game, calling it a “missed…opportunity.” Fassbender produced the film as well as starred in it, alongside A-list talent like Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Charlotte Rampling, and Michael Kenneth Williams. The film disappointed at the box office, grossing $240.7m worldwide against a budget of $125m. In his B- review of the film, IndieWire’s David Ehrlich wrote “declaring this to be the best video game movie ever made is the kind of backhanded compliment that sounds like hyperbole, but the description fits the bill on both counts.”

Movie Poster of the Week: 1970s Disaster Movies

  • MUBI
Whatever happened to the all-star-cast disaster movie? A staple of the box office charts for a good decade, disaster movies were to the 1970s what the superhero movie may be to the 2010s: a cash cow that was eventually milked dry. Starting today the Quad Cinema in New York is reviving the brand with a terrific series called “Disasterpieces,” featuring eight classics of the genre alongside its greatest parody and two precursors.Disaster movie posters are a genre unto themselves. For the most part they have three major elements: an eye-grabbing tagline—“91,000 People. 33 Exit Gates. One Sniper...”, “One Tiny Spark Becomes a Night of Blazing Suspense”, “Something hit us... the crew is dead... help us, please, please help us!”—a painted backdrop of catastrophe in medias res, and, most importantly, the grid of stars.Disaster movies require a large cast because they require a high body count and a measure

Adam Savage Goes Incognito in the ‘Alien: Covenant’ Spacesuit at Comic-Con — Watch
He isn’t busting myths anymore, but Adam Savage remains a busy guy. His latest “Tested” segment finds the former “Mythbusters” host wearing an actual spacesuit from “Alien: Covenant” around San Diego Comic-Con — not that most of the people there realize it’s him. Watch the video below.

Savage first examines the spacesuit in depth, from the Reebok logo on the magnetic boots and the GoPro camera that was actually used to shoot footage in the film to the working screens on the wrist and the “pièce de résistance” that is the helmet. “This is one of the most beautiful space helmets I’ve ever seen, for real or for fiction,” Savage says of the elaborate headgear.

‘Alien: Covenant’ Video Essay Argues That Ridley Scott’s Film Doesn’t Know What It Wants to Be — Watch
Alien: Covenant” didn’t exactly become a cultural phenomenon when it opened earlier this year. Ridley Scott’s latest prequel/sequel in his enduring science-fiction/horror series was met with lukewarm reviews and disappointing box-office returns, which is a shame — it’s the first true “Alien” movie in two decades, and a worthy addition to the xenomorph mythos. In a new video, Jack’s Movie Reviews attempts to diagnose the problem: It doesn’t know what it wants to be.

“I think it’s safe to say that we can learn just as much, if not more, from a movie that doesn’t work than one that works perfectly,” says the narrator as it opens. “For that reason, I believe we can call Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien: Covenant’ a perfect candidate for perfect

‘Alien: Covenant’ Will Be Missing That Gay Kiss From Its Chinese Release
Chinese censors have cut up to six minutes worth of material from Ridley Scott’s “Alien: Covenant,” including a kiss between two men (or at least two of the same man). Though the movie has been out for a few weeks in the U.S., it was released in China on Friday, about six minutes shorter due to Beijing censors cutting material apparently deemed offensive.

While censorship is a common practice for R-rated movies playing in China, typically it’s violence in action movies that gets the chop. (“Logan” and “Resident Evil: Apocalypse” were heavily cut this year.) Although a few gory alien scenes are missing from “Alien: Covenant,” there was something else amiss:

There has been an awakening – we’ve felt it, revelled in the nostalgia and are now eagerly awaiting December 18. Last night, during Espn’s Monday Night Football, Disney fired up the engines on the new and likely final trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

If moviegoers were sent into a tail-spin after the film’s pair of teaser trailers, then the full-length clip is enough to bring the Internet to its knees. Dancing around the core plot of The Force Awakens, there was plenty to dissect within the 2 minute sizzle reel, and thankfully we now have an array of screengrabs from the trailer to give us a closer look at the action.

I’m back after a week off! And this Week in Star Wars sees some over-blown news about Mark Hamill nearly dying, Episode VIII spoilers, Rogue One set photos and more…

It seems as though The Force Awakens was rather dangerous for its returning Star Wars stars. Poor old Harrison Ford was injured while on the Millennium Falcon, and a story broke this week that claimed Mark Hamill Nearly Died while filming in Ireland. The report said that he slipped on a set of steps that has claimed several lives over the last couple of years and the actor was saved by a local tour guide. However Hamill confirmed on Twitter that the story was made up and that filming was fine. So nothing really to see here…

…Speaking of Hamill, and the actor was spotted on the set of Rian Johnson’s Star Wars: Episode VIII – which could suggest

Harrison Ford's Scalp and Facial Injuries Likely to 'Heal Very Well,' Says Surgeon
Harrison Ford is likely to receive an encouraging prognosis for his scalp and facial injuries, says a top surgeon. An eyewitness to Ford's plane crash told People that the 72-year-old star suffered a five- or six-inch gash about "the size of a pancake." Generally speaking, such lacerations would be repaired immediately with sutures of some sort upon the patient's hospital admission. "The principles are going to be the same for any type of traumatic accident like this," says Dr. Anu Bajaj, vice chair of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons Public Education Committee. "You need to rule out any more serious injuries,

Crash Landing: Jaume Collet-Serra talks Non-Stop

Luke Owen chats with Jaume Collet-Serra, director of Non-Stop

Ahead of its release on DVD and Blu-Ray tomorrow, we sat down to have a chat with Juame Collet-Serra, director of Non-Stop, talking working with Liam Neeson, filming on one location and his hatred of flying.

An air marshal springs into action during a transatlantic flight after receiving a series of text messages that put his fellow passengers at risk unless the airline transfers $150 million into an off-shore account.

What attracted you to the idea of Non-Stop?

Basically I liked the idea and the challenge of doing a movie in one location. I’m a big fan of Hitchcock, Polanski etc and, yeah it was the challenge. Unknown was all over Berlin which was fun, but when I read Non-Stop I thought, I haven’t seen an airplane movie in years and no one has tried something like this before. We’ve done disaster movies,
